    Well, how nice of Matt,
Please tell him he did a good thing, and there is another Cape George 36 . The owner
Kirsten Neuguesser is refitting her CAPE George 36 on Prince Edward Island, Canada .
She intends to enter and win the GGR 2022 , an around the world solo, nonstop race….
You can find her on Facebook, or her website…

I really enjoy your music. When we married, my wife's cousin's wife played viola at our wedding. I found out, years later, that in the years prior to our wedding she had been the number one rated viola soloist in the world. Early in her career, an elderly gentleman gave her a viola with a broken neck, calling it a humble gift. When she took it took it to be repaired, she was told that it was priceless - I was too ignorant of such things to know that at the time of our wedding, but I still remember the beauty of the music she made. Your playing on the channel (and the choreography of your duets and trios) brings back very fond memories of the few times I heard Carol play. Thank you for entertaining as well as teaching boating skills. The two of you have unique skills and gifts. And the techniques and tips, as well as sources for materials, are both informative and helpful, reinforcing my belief that I will be able to restore and modify a small trailerable boat for sailing with my grandsons.

What we all need- a place...a home... a boat with... "that thing." Life. Soul. This boat has it and will definitely feed yours. Congrats on having all your research and suspicions confirmed. The memories and sensations of those few days will be great fuel for your work going forward.

The dialog and voice over in this video was especially poetic and we really enjoyed it. My wife is an Oma so that made it special as well. Just the video made it feel like a ship versus a boat. We know what your talking about in the difference. Your body and mind know but there are no words. Great video. Thank you

What a sail, nice weather, light breezes, cruising along with that silence, no motor, just rippling water. You'll definitely have a beauty when you've completed the work, pride in your accomplishment. Anxious here to see the adventure with the Cape George! 🕊️🧡🔱

Your pronunciation of Tipi Haere is beautiful and correct and a joy to listen to. Warren owners almost to a person destroy the predominantly Pacific names of their boats. You and the owner of Tipi Haere honour our two/language. Thankyou

What a magical, wonderful, beautiful presentation. Watching that wonderful craft move smoothly through the seas was a joy. I am in tears…. As a child I was thin, eccentric and bullied. I was never able to actively participate in sport and compete against the other boys who delighted in hurting and humiliating those weaker than themselves…. that is until I discovered sailing. Being on the water was my solace, solitude and place of peace. Thankyou for rekindling those memories. Bless you both.

Thank you, both! It’s also special that you got to sail your first Cape George 36 in a boat with a Māori name. Cecil Lange, a Kiwi whose brainchild the design was, passed away only last year. There’s something wonderfully poignant about that circle of connections. And perhaps a hint of a voyage to Aotearoa some day?
Maya, with your gift for the poetry of language, you’re already savouring the promise … and Aladino, with your gift for the poetry of boats, you’re underway already, right?
As ever, all praise to the two of you for the magic of your narratives.
Proud to support your project, albeit in but a tiny way.

We have a very similar boat although custom made ferro cement. It’s technically a 39 foot but that extra3 feet is just because the hull is a true double end. Our stern comes to a point! It’s like a canoe. Anyway my point is my husband thinks it’s too big and heavy to steer with a rudder. But the cockpit is compact like theirs so the wheel really gets in the way

I lived in Seattle for 23 years. Miss the ocean and being on my friends sail boats and even the live aboard my late husband I had on Lake Union for a couple of years. But it most reminded me about working on a 45 foot commercial fishing boat 200 miles out from land for weeks at a time as a cook and deck hand with only me and the captain on board. Watching your sailing today was soothing to my soul. I’m happiest on the water. Loved watching all your sailing adventures. Thank you for giving this senior something to look forward to each week. Can’t wait to see your sailing your new boat.

Great episode, Matt's boat is in impeccable shape, very cool to see a boat that size sail so easy in such light wind. One thing you guys might want to think about installing is bow thrusters, a boat this size being a full keel does not backup easy and trying to dock it or putting it into a slip when there is a lot of current can be a real pain in the ass, bow thrusters just makes this job so much easier....

I particularly enjoyed this episode. I 've owned several sailboats. Your excursion reminded me of my last boat, "Chubby," a Cooper 353 which seems to have shared much of the sailing characteristics of your Cape George. Stable in heavy air, spritely in the light air which is common in the inland waters of Washington. What I enjoyed the most about your episode was your descriptions of sailing the Cape George. Not the words so much as the depth of feeling and overall emotion in your voice that communicated the joy of sailing. I miss it so much, but health issues (age) have caused me to sell my joy. But a young couple has bought her and have the skill and knowledge to keep her shipshape. Thank you for doing what you do!

  • @desmondpower5460
    @desmondpower5460 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

This reminds me of my Endurance 35, especially the stability holding line. I recommend if using a cutter rig, having the staysail on a self furler. As I did plenty of solo sailing, I did this for the reason you mentioned, to prevent the need to wind in the headsail. When I tack across I leave the staysail until after I have hauled the head sail across. The headsail would slide cleanly across the staysail so I didn't need to take it in, and I would also often sail with main and staysail.

You mentioned finding a Light and heavy wind sailing boat as a Unicorn. I had one in my youth, her name was Sea Symphony. She was a Swedish built Brynne in 1926. Her length was 25ft and weighed in at 15,000 lbs, yes I said 15,000 POUNDS. Her mast was 38ft from deck and 42 ft to keel. Used sails you would find on boats of 30 to 35 ft. I had this beautiful boat in Southern California. So I sailed her in light and heavy winds, in fact those dreaded Santa Anna winds would prompt me to go sailing in 60 knot winds at night because she took them so well. Yet, I would get her up to full speed of 7.5 knots in lighter than 10 knots, but she would have up to 600 sq ft of sail up. The only thing you had to have was strength to sail her. I miss her so much, and have looked for plans or another of her kind for the last 30 years.

Non sailors might be amazed to see the difference that 8 feet can make. Probably three times the internal volumn of the Vindo. I sailed a Folkboat and a Contessa 26 for years, The taste off salt water even in a small chop is a vivid memory. I appreciate the difference you will notice when you take to the water on the new yacht, it will be a much drier boat too.. I look forward to your future adventures and good luck.

It's a Cape George. They have an incredible reputation. You have chosen really well. They do not reverse very well, but you guys look like forward is your favorite direction. If you have not learned then check out 'torque turning.' You can spin that boat on its keel using that technique. The full keel is just a little bit of a learning process in close maneuvering. Thanks for the great videos.

I have built and sailed on many boats but they all seemed like home, starting with my El Toro when I was seven. Now a days it seems like a sixty foot daggerboard catamaran gives me that sense of home like no other but I digress. Moving up in size and speed is always important, a Cape George 36 feels small to a Oyster 52 and so on. Congratulations on incrementally moving forward to bigger vessels. I know I couldn't move back to a 60 foot mono hull after sailing a performance 60 foot catamaran, the difference is night and day. Many blessings on fitting out your new boat and the boats after that, "May there be many". Be well and stay safe.

I'm looking forward to the final results on Magic Carpet. Maya, you have a very sharp way with words. Watching her sail in light winds was instructive. This is what you get with a heavy boat paired with a generous sail plan.
The cutter rig makes it easier to cut the sail area down to size, once it breases up.

The difference between fabricate materials and real wood is it is made from living materials. It has a soul and a spirit, warmth vs. cold. Of course, good energy and love from it's owners makes a difference too. This was a fun video.

That was one of the best! You’re making me rethink some of the things that I now will do more research on & take more time with. It sounds like you’ve made a excellent choice in your new boat doesn’t it? I love all the retro kind of hardware and the “lights” that were just thick glass and sunshine. It’s going to be such a great home--

Tipi Hare was the first Cape George 36 I sailed as well. You will never be disappointed and she will take care of you throughout a lifetime. Among other things she will teach you how to dock her singlehandedly with wind and current deep into a marina using the tools at hand rather than just turning the wheel!

Maya's mastery of English is incredible. Sometimes I listen to these Magic Carpet videos, and encourage my students to do the same, just to hear her speak. Aladino as well considering how many languages he speaks.

This retired teacher agrees 100% and 100% is the score I give Maya's English!

I think getting this first hand experience on this boat puts you in a better position to make sound choices regarding fitting out and setting up. You have a fine boat there.

12:20 - 13:04 Lovely narration. I think you are going to be very happy on Magic Carpet II! Best wishes to you both! You were so lucky to find a generous and informed skipper to let you trial your boat/his boat. Great kudos to Matt. 19:29 - 19:35 six seconds that show who you are and how you are together. Love to you both!

Enjoyed that. Great to be back out on the water with you guys. Matt's boat went really well in light winds from what I saw. Exciting.

I think when you were trying to express the difference in how you feel about your own boat after this experience, is that before you knew what it should be like with your mind, but now you know with your heart. When those two are in tune, they make joyful music.
