How much does the Heavy Duty Clamp Mount stick out from the back of the desk / whats the thickness of the backplate? The dimensions don't seem to be mentioned in the manual. I am concerned it may not fit the gap of my double desk island.

With all the larger size ultrawide monitors (LG's OLED 39" and 45") coming with a dissapointing 3440x1440 resolution, this monitor felt perfect to me since it was high res to support the 40" size while having above 60hz. Praying next gen OLED ultrawides come with high res like this

At the old price of $1200-1500, this monitor was a steal, I wish I knew about it several months ago. At $2000, this is a much tougher sell. It's basically everything I want in a monitor sans OLED. I'm currently running a 42" LG C4, because I couldn't find anything better for the money.

iMac users beware! Bought this monitor this week as a dual iMac Pro and PC monitor, and discovered to my dismay that the Dell Display Manager KVM software does not support iMacs! While the iMac connectivity works fine via the thunderbolt cable, I wanted to be able to use keyboard shortcuts instead of the rear buttons to switch between computers, but Dell's KVM software refused to install on an iMac. After pounding the desk for awhile, I found-in teeny print at the end of the Display Manager manual-that oops iMacs are not officially supported! Huge disappointment for an $1800 monitor to not support this functionality for a whole class of Macs (many still in production BTW), and shame on Dell for not being up-front about this (they simply say "and it works for Mac!"). As a workaround, the 3rd-party utility BetterDisplay enables this functionality so I eventually got shortcuts working as desired. Overall I'm happy with the quality of the hardware, but come on Dell, why limit the software functionality?!

I really enjoyed this video but I’m still struggling to understand the concept of MacOS scaling and how much consideration I should place on it when selecting a productivity monitor for my Mac. Do you have any plans to produce a video discussing this issue in more detail? I’m sure there are many viewers that’d benefit from your explanation, particularly given the highly expected new MacMini release later this month.

Thanks for great review. I just have a general question for these ultra wide monitors which none of the review videos seem to mention. What happens if you share your screen during a Microsoft Teams call? Does it compress the 21:9 ratio to a 16:9 ratio or it is managed cleverly?

    • @mikesk8s
      @mikesk8s หลายเดือนก่อน

I use the 38" version of this monitor for work. MS Teams will deliver the full resolution of whatever you share. On the recipient end, Teams will scale down and letterbox or pillarbox the image if the aspect ratio doesn't match what you are sending. I find that most other users are on smaller 1080p laptop or desktop monitors and if I share my whole screen, they get way more pixels than could possibly resolve. Therefore, I only ever share single application windows, which I size approximately to 1920x1080, since that's likely the target resolution of the rest of the call participants.

I think Pete is wrong. Search "macbook pro 14 m1 specs" then first result go to "Display Support" section. First result from Apple, you will notice that it does support max 6K@60Hz. Then same search for "macbook pro 14 m2 specs". You will notice that it does support 8K@60Hz and 4K@240Hz. So, the bandwidth of the M2 Pro does include 6K@120Hz. Why? Because the stream of 8K@60Hz = 6K@120Hz = 4K@240Hz and it is higher than this Dell monitor which is exactly 4.62K@120Hz (5K is the marketing name). For memory, when you double the K, you double the width and the height. So, the area, the pixel quantity is squared (quadrupled) from 4K to 8K but doubled from 4K to 6K (6K has the same height as 4K, but double width) *So 120Hz is OK for M2 Pro/Max and not for M1 Pro/Max.*

Received it recently and thinking about keeping it. I wonder, what scaling option do you use in Mac OS ? The native one appears to be quite usable, and I noticed all other scaling options give a text slight "hallowing", especially visible when white text is displayed on the dark background (probably due lack of font-smoothing on mac os).
This Dell also integrates with Mac OS quite well: night shift works, didn't notice any flickering and it wakes up fast.
I had been using dual Studio displays, but 27 inch is just way too limiting (+18ms response makes it feel like a 30hz display instead of 60hz). Then sold one of the Studio Displays and bought The Pro Display XDR (I know, "a bit" of an overkill for coding). The XDR is the best monitor I've ever had, but for that price I'd expect it to last a decade and I'm not sure it will. The repair-cost is absolutely eye-watering too if the XDR breaks a few years later. So, now thinking about returning the XDR and selling the remaining Studio Display.

I was heavily considering the G9 Neo, but now I'm unsure. The color accuracy, KVM, and USB-C for the Mac are drawing me in more with this one. 120Hz is fine; I just wish it had more curve. I will still get this one, though.

    HI!
I'm having a hard time figuring out what monitor(s) to get. I've been mostly thinking about having 2 monitors, 27-32", and 4k minimum. I will never be gaming, it's purely productivity. I'm in real estate and have tons of windows open at a time, and a few different programs running simultaneously. I will also be doing video editing for properties, nothing crazy intensive. My main concern is the scaling and PPI when using a Mac.
I'm getting a M4 Max MBP once it's released because my current MBP is ~10yrs old. I was originally thinking about getting two ASD or LG Ultrafines but after doing more research I want something that has at least 120hz. I've seen comparisons of using an external 60hz monitor with M3 MBP's and don't like how it's not smooth compared to the native MBP screen. I've seen forum posts with guys using between 2 to 3 LG OLED monitors; running at 120hz with no issues, but I'm worried about burn-in since I always have a lot of documents up at all times.
Seeing this review, I'm now leaning towards the G9. I understand the scaling might not be exact but it seems to be close enough, and at 120hz which is enough for me, also the amount of screen real estate. I'm currently using a Samsung CJ791 34" and everything seems fine to me scaling wise, so having a screening nearly 2x the size would be nice. The other option I'm looking at, again after seeing your review, is the Dell 40" UltraSharp, just wish it was a bit wider. If I do go with the Dell, I was thinking of getting a smaller 4k screen on the side vertically for scrolling through docs.
Sorry for the tl;dr comment but any insight would be appreciated. I originally wrote this for the G9 review you made but I saw that this review is newer, so the chance of you replying would be higher on this review.... lol
    THANK YOU!!!!!

Potentially! You can use the Thunderbolt downstream port to hook up another monitor via thunderbolt - or potentially use a thunderbolt to HDMI/DP adapter. But I suspect this would also only work when you hook up your laptop / PC via Thunderbolt too.
Unfortunately I don't have enough here to test for you, but in theory it should and could work with the right combination of supported devices!
