    After talking to a few animation majors, I think it's worth noting on that degree that (at least at the universities in my general area) animation is a HIGHLY competitive major. Like it's hard to even stay in the major because it's so ridiculously competitive O_O and you end up seeing your peers as enemies more than peers. But if you can handle the heat it's probably fairly good at least in terms of art degrees :3

      @@brianarubio2928 I definitely would if you believe you can improve your art!! Just know you’ll be drawing almost everyday for like 5 hours or more. But don’t let this overwhelm you I would definitely recommend going into the field if it fascinates you. Most drawing in animation is done in computers after your drawing sketches are done so I’ll be better than your actual drawing.

      Is it possible to go into animation industry if you didn’t pursue an animation or related fine arts major? I agree with Shane, sadly many art majors struggle to meet ends with debt as opposed to other majors. Currently studying information systems because I want to make sure I have a stable job, but animation was my past dream job when I was young. Was wondering if I could consider alternatives to animation bachelors, I don’t know if it’s worth the debt for an art major.

    I think this video is kinda unfilfulling? Art degrees are often about application and knowing how to do things. I've been taught that it doesnt matter what your degree is titled as if you learn the skills. At the same time, this video doesnt explain what medium or technique would get you a job. Animation programs for instance arent always taught with 3D programs, like many industries are making it the standard. This video is just comparing the salary and stats without any of the depth or what you actually do.

      It's basically engineering and the arts combine, one of the hardest majors. As an architect major myself I couldn't handle the pressures of the projects, research and drawings all at the same time that's why I'm shifting to another major. It's expensive, stressful as hell. Isn't worth it in my opinion as it takes 5+yrs to study another 2yrs of internship and the board exam, it takes at least 10yrs before you can officially call yourself an Architect (Ar. Your name) yet you still can't design a house by yourself as you need to an apprentice under a senior architect. It's also highly competitive especially with engineers who are overtaking jobs as design and art is mostly looked down upon and disregarded for the budget. So I highly advice you to interview architecture students and if you can watch the process of students and architects alike if this is truly what you want. Good luck

    • @TheAndrewBen
      @TheAndrewBen 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      LOL....I got my master's in Architecture and after 2 years in the field I am proudly going to try becoming a 3D Environmental Artist.
      In architecture, the career has VERY LITTLE creative opportunities that mostly consists of code requirements, cost reductions, wall detailing, and meeting with other consultants that you know nothing about (civil, MEP, engineers). Salary is a little higher but the workload is also very high. I pass by the project managers (5 years experience?) and their calendars are full of meetings all day every day. It is awesome working with REAL buildings, it is a highly respected career that you can throw out at any social gathering, site visits are so fun, but in the end if creativity is your highest skill, I would advise to be careful and think what would best suit yourself. College is all creative work, but the firm office is not. Projects take 3 to 20 years to start and finish, but as a 3D Environmental artist I am expecting it to take days to weeks to finish a building from start to finish. Usually, architecture firms are only in production, so the design firm hires an architecture firm (you) to do the construction details. Also, architects are FAR from rich, just like any other career. 2022 now just expect 60K at any major city, 70K, maybe a project manager level?
      Don't get me wrong, I'm expecting negative not-so-fun situations as a 3D artist as well but if I'm having fun creating a Revit family and feeling depressed doing everything else, something is wrong there. So do career research (not college research) and follow your heart!

    • @TheAndrewBen
      @TheAndrewBen 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@anymayonnaise1376 So I agree with this comment but I would not seek guidance from college students. College is VERY different from the career field. College consists of Pre-design and schematic design work, while in the career you have 5 more phases of design that do not have anything to do with nearly all the education you learn in college.

      @@TheAndrewBen yeah it’s been awhile since I wrote this comment (I was 14, now I’m 16). I’m aware architecture isn’t really a high paying thing, and I probably won’t enjoy it anyways. Probably gonna become a software engineer or something similar that can take me 4 years. I’ve learned a few programming languages and I’ve enjoyed it so far.

    I love art and do wanna make it my career, but I am not going into student debt to get a bachelor's degree in it and waste 4 years of my life and money. The most I'll be doing is getting a certification which is cheap and at least better than just a highschool diploma and the classes will actually be useful to me and I'm getting my money's worth. I'm a 2D digital artist... Right now, digital art is still considered as "fledgling" as it is only starting to be more accepted as an alternative to traditional canvas and paint, thanks to the more extensive gaming and other different CGI applications out there now... Those whom have been biding their time by honing their digital art skills sharp while much of the art community has been busy "digging the wax from their brains" about the concept of digital art in general for the last 20 years, can look forward to some serious growth in the future, especially with 3D skills, so keep plugging away!

Animation itself is extremely competitive and if you plan on being a freelance artist it really shouldn't matter if you pursue it as a degree as most animators or people who go to art school say they learned better based off youtube tutorials or online and friends i feel like art school is there for the connection but yet again most of those connections come from prestigious and expensive school like CalArts, School of Visual Arts, Ringling college of Art, etc. Most of the time it depends on your demo reel/animation short since it helps stands out your quality and capability. this is my advice so dont be discouraged plz if you have what it takes go for it i mean you only live once

      I'm in high school right now and I am still confused about choosing a major, one thing I can suggest is that you should start learning anything that you want to do in the future, and you should start NOW. The best art "degree" is not getting an art degree in the first place

    The thing about art is it’s highly depends on ur talent (I mean my ur imagination and creativity level) more than skills! That’s what makes u stand out. A lot of time u don’t need bachelor’s degree, u will be good by online courses/classes or associate degree! All left it depends on how u put urself out there( ur marketing skills) and ur uniqueness! Yup it’s competitive but it’s just like singers, actors, comedians, it’s not easy but special ones can! Just my personal opinion! And the money is much more for some of them I guess because some of them have their own business and make more that that! All these are my opinion and what I’ve seen, ofc he knows more haha, so don’t take it seriously 😐
