      My husband is an RN in the Operating Room. He loves it. Now that he's traveling he's earning a 6 fig salary. But when he was local - he still made great money. And gets a lot of recognition for his work from patients and colleagues. And for me personally, during a very long health issue, you could not ask for a better partner than the one who always chose my surgical team (from Dr to scrub to tech) because he had a personal working relationship with each of them. A very tough career, but very rewarding as well.

    Nice to see RT and OTA make the list finally. The numbers are a bit skewed though but thats expected. Im an RT and my girlfriend is an OTA and our pay is swapped. RT is hard to get an accurate number especially because covid really brought our field to light. I started as a new grad RT about a year into covid. I was given a $5 pay raise to my base rate after 1 month because my hospital readjusted the new grad rate by $5 an hour. And now 2.5 years into the field, working in the same city I make $12 an hour on my base rate than what I was originally paid as a new grad. Dont recommend RT though because respect in the field varies by hospital and state, some places were nebulizer jockies, other places we intubate, do procedures, and doctors actually ask us for our recommendations. The field is finally starting to get some traction though, we even no have an Advance Practice Respiratory Therapist position that was created during Covid as a parallel to Nurse Practitioner.

    Hi Shane, I just recently found your channel as I’m a grade 11 student trying to decide which programs I should apply to next year, and I’ve found your videos very helpful. I want to ask what the difference is between a bachelor of commerce versus a bachelor of business administration. I’m more so wondering if I majored in let’s say, finance, and there are different finance programs that earn you a BBA and others that get you a BCOM, are one of those bachelors better or more prestigious? And what are the main differences between the content and career paths? Thanks

    • @alanamarie8669
      @alanamarie8669 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It just depends on the career path you choose. Don't get hung up on the end, that is a long way off and you have no idea what will happen between now and then. Make sure you are consulting with an advisor or mentor to ensure you are taking the right classes for your end goal and that end goal may change from year to year if not semester in the beginning. Good luck!!

    • @alanamarie8669
      @alanamarie8669 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah you are worlds apart, you have to wait until your at least on the same page and understand the difference before you think about the end. As you take classes you’ll find your way but steer toward AI snd machine learning. So Def not business administration stay far away from there, that will be gone by the time you graduate.

But I am still seeing the requirement of a BS.

    1 degree that you did not mention in healthcare does involve technology / engineering it is a biomedical equipment technology. It the the repair and maintenance of all medical equipment in the hospitals. Some work for companies. There are certs also and someone can easily make 60k with a 2 year degree. Companies who hire call them Field Service Engineer. The job involve electronics, mechanics, hydraulics, autonomy, physiology, a little chemistry and govern regulations. There are an average of 40 pieces of equipment per patient that is used by the hospital if I'm thinking correctly. There is a shortage and most people don't know about this occupation.

    i find it weird that men who follow you are against becoming RNs in 2023. Nursing is extremely popular with men in the west coast especially in California because of the high salaries. new grads in my department start around 117-120k plus benefits. Many male nurses make more than female nurses that is a known fact. many advance to CRNAs and NPs within 2-3yrs and double their salary CRNAs in california start around 250-300k plus benefits, and NPs anywhere from 130-200k easy

      Because it’s a high stress job. You are taking care of at least 5 very sickly patients who could die during your shift if you are not constantly monitoring or assessing their condition. Imagine trying to fulfill all the doctors orders, talking to family or patients, coordinating all the care for a patient, multiply that times at least 5 patients. You can go nuts. Sometimes, you cannot even take your lunch break, if you do, it’s only for 30 minutes, and when you come back on the floor, work piles up on you. Sometimes, patients need something all at the same time, sometimes you are in the middle of a blood transfusion, and another keeps calling you for intense pain. Then, you get phone calls from patients family all wanting to talk to the RN for status of their loved ones. Not to mention, crabby, cat-fighting co-workers coz they’re all stressed too. Then, doctors yell at you too for any delayed or missed information because you’re just too busy doing everything at the same time. Mind you guys, you are on your feet, walking around, standing, lifting or what have you for 12 hours straight. On top of that, you have documentation to finish before your shift ends. Then, if you missed something, everyone is quick to jump on you blaming you for this and that. Nowadays, patients on the floor are sicker than they were a decade ago. It’s harder to be a nurse these days. Patient care bedside nursing is brutal!!! Too much abuse on your body. That’s why there’s always a nursing shortage, and this thing will never go away. No one can stand it even it pays well, there’s only so much you can take. There are millions of licensed nurses but they are not working as nurses. Usually, there’s an influx of new grads, all idealistic and excited to start working, but within not even a year, they quit nursing. I have high respect for nurses who are able to withstand and survive this profession. They truly are one of a kind. It’s definitely not for everybody. There are other ways to earn money, easier ways than nursing. This is not for a faint of heart. It takes someone who can see past all the gory stuff and genuine compassion to help even if everything seems like an uphill battle all the time, every time you go to work, it will really test your perseverance to take in all the shit, no pun intended. Most of the time, even patients themselves can be mean to you, physically and verbally, and don’t seem to understand and appreciate the fact that you’re merely trying to help them. But you shouldn’t take it personally and still move on as if nothing happened. This is no joke, office jobs are cake walk. That’s why whenever I hear people complaining about their office jobs, they’re no where near the level of physical, emotional, psychological stress nurses go through each working day. This is why nurses usually only work 3 days a week because they need to recuperate literally from all the stress. And then people in administrative have the audacity to belittle the work that nurses do, thinking they are overpaid, yeah right, just try working as a nurse, and they will find out what’s worse than a nightmare!!! For you guys who don’t have a clue, try at least volunteering in a nursing unit at a hospital, even better, get certified as a nursing assistant called a CNA. It’s a 6-8 week class, then take a state certification exam. Then work as a CNA either hospital or nursing home. Do yourself a favor before you spend all your time, energy and money on a Registered Nursing program only to quit before a year into your nursing job. TRUST ME ON THIS!!! BELIEVE WHAT I SAY, and you’ll thank me later. Adios, sayonara, capiche! Need I say more? 😂
