People get maaco paint jobs all wrong!! The prep is what makes a paint and yes that is were maaco lacks quite a bit but u get what u pay for there. The painters there are actually extremely good! To get a complete car that has been prepped bad but still lay out flat and hardly any orange peel is dificult to do but they still doit! It's no orange peel on the window trim and moldings to! LoL but that is not the painters doing. All in the prep yo.
All maacos are independently owned and operated. The way some people decide to run there business should not give all businesses in that franchise a bad reputation. For instance we have high expectation contracts where our customers pay and expect no dirt , no rock chips and little to none orange peel even if that means we cut and buff every job. And all molding mirrors and handles are removed. As well as all bumpers painted off and disassembled. Seals fine line masked and or windows removed. Jams foam tapped off and wheel wells papered off.

Notice there's no regulator at the gun, it's on the wall where it should be...free flow laminar air through the gun! That's also a little secret to a smooth even paint job.

Actually they have a robot paint system. There is a guy who is disabled from waste down. That uses this system. Its pretty cool.

Did u see the buffer resting on the fender while he was applying compound to the hood?!?! And why not use a full size electric polisher? I guess I was just expecting a more professional approach with a name like house of kolor. It's also much more efficient if you dry sand with 1200. Wet sand with 1500. Then use 3000. It will buff very easily, look better, and use less material. Always use high quality supplies.
I'd say not using a full size electric high speed buffer for color sanding wet sanding and polishing out the paint, was for a few legit reasons. 1 instructional video on how to. smaller polisher or sander would give a better or open view of what he is doing and his technique. 2. Being smaller and lighter in weight and using hermetically powered sander eliminates the weight of the electric motor and the extra heat generated by that electric motor. And it's still a great paint job professionally done right and with pride.. Thanks for sharing your knowledge on the how to😎
Iv'e always used you're approach and never had a problem, One thing i noticed in the video was he directly applied the compound on the car . Not a big issue at all really but i put mine on the buffer first and pat it flat then kick ass .

Bought this DVD years ago to learn to spray Kandy. Best 39 bucks I ever spent. One of the key things it doesn't get into is gun set up for that first coat and how easy it is to run kandy. Took me a couple tried before I figured out you had to adjust the gun to where it isn't spraying on much material for the first coat. Once you get the first coat laid down with no mistakes, you are pretty much home free.
Many people are looking for it now, they don't appear to be making it anymore. There surely going for over $100 now closer to $200.
My friend bought this robot made in Japan , and he was using it as his own personal assistant . This robot will bring anything he asked , from drinks , paper work , food u named it . Another friend implied if this robot was able to pleased human sexually , my friend replied " Best sex i ever had". Then my friend asked to borrow the robot for a few minutes , and the robot and friend disappeared in one of the rooms . Suddenly we heard a big scream , and the owner of the robot shouted from the other room , " Forget to tell u , my robot's butt hole is a pencil sharpener !!".

he has become a fanatic in his approach to laying it on,and he's right,the name of the game is listen to him and lay it on like you were never intending to wet sand,when you can control the liquids coming out of your gun like he does then you're there,the man is a genius,and that's a fact,forget that he mixes and designed some of the most awesome hues and clears around,with him on the gun there will be as close to perfection as humanly possible,you'd be wise to play this over a dozen times, before you even mix the next batch

They're the racing strips which are done before applying the candy and clear coat. The candy color is basically a transparent style paint which covers up the base coat and it can change the original coloring of the base coat or strips. Then after the clear is applied, it seals up all the paint and provides a protective shiny finish.

For a professionals to do it it'll be 5k+ you're saving when you diy so under 5k
depending on the car. but yea 5k sounds right for such a good job .i dont trust anything under 1k. i payed $700 on my ford bronco xl and not even 2 weeks later the paint started chipping

Dude, This is by far the best instruction video on how to spray a car that I've seen. And I seen them all! I like the way you emphasize the robot action throughout the process and how to lay down the clear. You have me wanting to spray my 65 Impala that's been sitting in my garage primered for 5 years. Can you make a complete How To video from start to finish. Like what guns to buy, paint, primer how to cut it the whole 9 yards. I built this car myself and now I want to paint it too.

@inachu What you didn't see at the end was the buffing. That's how you get that show car shine. Without sanding it back, it'll have texture in the clear known as orange peel because the texture is the same as the dimples on an orange.

thanks jon for creating the candy system! you are the greatest painter out there hands down! some yrs back you offerd me a job but i turned you down,funny how things worked out,i did a car that went to barret jacksons live auto auction a few yrs back in my garage,and now i do muscle cars/hot rods and vintage.i am noted as being one of the best around for restorations now and i can honestly say that i owe alot of it to your technical seminars and the techniques of old school body men.thanks jon
