Doesnt ATRAC work best with steady throttle around 1800-2200RPM? Pulsing throttle doesnt allow the system to fully kick in right?
Exactly it needs constant throttle
The weight of the Tundra is a big factor in a rocky hill climb or a muddy hill climb, imo.
Yea. It definitely has a big effect
Clearly ATRAC was not active on the first vehicle going up the hill. The unloaded wheels were clearly spinning without any ATRAC comp. Why you showed was a Tundra with open diff and no ATRAC vs Tacoma with locking diff.
Yea. It’s unknown of why ATrac was absent tho.
@@4WDisLife Not available on Tundra.
Tundras don’t have atrack brother
But they have TRAC. It's in the owners manual. It's on by default in 4HI and around 1800-2200 rpm.
@MichiganMitch23 they do. Read the manual
the tundra drives me crazy... why do you like to STOP SO FUCKING MUCH!
How many decades of off roading experience do you need to maintain a constant throttle??
Great constructive criticism
Didnt give the atrack system a chance to kick in. Keep it at steady throttle it takes a min to detect spin and transfer to the other wheel. But he brakes once he spins. Operator error imo
Great video! Love the A-TRAC vs locker. I have A-TRAC but also lockers on both front and back axles. Great to see a comparison video.
Very nice. I am planning to add a rear soon
Do you know if a cheap locker is an option for a tundra my friend has a tundra like yours. Can you do like a lunch box Locker or an automatic Locker of some sort
@@off-roadingexplained8417 I think there is real mechanical LSD kind of locker available
I just bought a 2019 tundra platinum hope I don’t regret it.
Not at all. It’s a beast!
25k subs in a year? wild growth, congrats!
thank you!
Had to tell with the true difference having different vehicles and different drivers
I like this channel so much. Great work. Look forward to seeing more comparison videos.
Thank you!
Awesome video man!
Thanks man
Running 20-22lbs in your tires offroad also helps ALOT!
For sure
Conditions look different if you compare 3:01 and 4:50. At the 3 minute mark the ground looks slick and muddy compared to the 4:50 mark. That makes a significant difference, just saying.
Absolutely, that part of the trail had became more wet and loose within the past couple of months
From other atrac videos I've watched; don't think you guys even had it engaged.
Unfortunately atrac on each vehicle engages differently, on my tundra it auto engages with 4lo once detects wheel spin and rpm around 1200
@@electropentatonic Update: I have a Ranger Tremor now. So happy I didn't go Toy. This Tremor kicks butt.
Great comparison 👏
Are all 2nd gen Tundras equipped with ATRAC?
I think so, but I do believe the atrac on tundras are not as aggressive as other Toyota 4x4s
From what I've been able to find, no Tundra has ATRAC, but all(?) have TRAC. These are definitely different systems.
Locker or lockers would make the Tundra perfect. I love mine but really wish it had at LEAST rear locker. Maybe will install one day...if I ever do anything other than flat, easy off road trails. Would be good just to know it had the capability if it was ever needed.
IMO the rear locker does 90% of what you need. Going up hill is when you need the help, and going up hill the weight is shifted onto the rear axle. I've had my Taco TRD Off Road for a decade now, and between the ATRAC and the locker, there's never been anywhere I wanted to go that it wouldn't take me.
I think the tundra needs a rear locker. Just saying
I think you maybe right.
That Tundra driver has patience, I would have hit that with much more speed and momentum. Yes I am a novice, and only off road when I'm trying to get somewhere, not just for fun.
nothing wrong with either choice lol
@@4WDisLifeI'm on my 2nd Tunda, I tried to kill the first one (05) using as a farm truck, to justify buying a new nicer one to my wife. It wouldn't die so I ended up giving to my teenage nephews, it's still going. I don't even worry about my 2019, I just do what I need to do, and it always seems to come out just fine, but I do like momentum.
Did you guys air down or just leave them as they were?
18-20psi for both.
It is pretty stupid that Toyota fkd us tundra owners by not putting a locker on these beasts..... 4k just for a rear aftermarket locker
So does this mean that the 4wd sucks on theses trucks?
Negative
There is no replacement for displa... solid axles and physical lockers.
AI and Skynet can suck it! We're gonna need Alexa's driver assistant to beat axles and lockers.
Tundra driver no good.
Tundra driver no good.
Wrong. Go watch any Moab off road video. You don't see the oversized trucks. You only see Jeeps, Tacomas, Broncos, Blazers, and Forerunners. They're lighter and more nimble to take on very steep rock crawls.
