    I understand the mpg sadness. I was driving my Tundra everywhere 2 years ago without a care in the world. Now with gas almost $5gal we find ourselves taking the Highlander as much as possible.
    Very cool video and comparison. I love the FJ bumper, the aesthetics are amazing; wish there was more bumper choices for pre-facelift 2nd gen Tundras.

      Thanks man. And yea when I got my tundra the gas price here was $2. And now $5. 😞 the 2007-2014 tundras I think looks really nice just stock with maybe some baja style simple bumper.

      My tundra gets 17.5 - 20.2 mpg which i am extremely happy with. Especially considering i was coming from my old grand cherokee (lifted with 33s) only got 9.8mpg.
      But if i really want to save money i just ride my motorcycle which gets about 40mpg.

    Nice vid, thanks for making it. Gas prices in Oz are not too different from US prices now, so there's lots of bowser anxiety here too. We're hoping to see some locally RHD converted Tundras on sale here in 2024, with the twin turbo diesel (LC300) engine in hybrid form, so that'll stir up the market a bit. Can't wait.

      @@4WDisLife Sure are - sold here until 2016 I think, sadly no longer available new. I've got a MY2014 that I'm setting up for overlanding. Great combination of FJ40 robustness and agility but quiet, comfortable and with a few off-road aids from factory like A-TRAC and rear locker. I was wrong about the future Oz Tundra spec; turns out the engine will be gas not diesel. That sucks.

      I just Googled Gas Prices in Australia and it's staggering how high your Gas prices are compared to U.S. U.S.A has the highest oil reserves in the World and Australia has ZERO. So, there is no way your Fuel prices can compare to ours.

    So, how much of a conspiracy is it that the Cherokee Trailhawk came to the market the same year the FJ left , and holds some of the exact same specs.
    1. Engine is basically the same horsepower on the V6 model : Cherokee has 271 , FJ is basically the same (so is Honda Ridgeline)
    2. Also has a rear locker
    Wheelbase is shorter on the FJ though, Cherokee Trailhawk is 107.1. FJ is 105.9. if they were placed at the same ride height (mid body from ground) FJ would have a better breakover angle. Which HAS to be insane when modified. I'm at almost 30° and when you put a 3 inch lift on the Cherokee Trailhawk and 32 inch tires you can hit beyond 34° breakover. FJ will be beyond that. It's absolutely nuts.
    FJ is a better vehicle though. The V6 engine I'm sure will last longer than the pentastar and the IFS on the FJ is double wishbone, mine is a McPherson strut.
    I actually have the 2.4 mutli-air (got it on purpose thinking gas could go to $5/gallon... Looks like I might be right) but it still produces insane wheel torque in 4 low at 56:1 crawl so it doesn't matter much. You're pulling harder in 4 low than a tundra 5.7 pulls in 2 high. It's plenty...

    • @4WDisLife
      @4WDisLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea man. Fj is an amazing vehicle, I would also give credits to cherokees trail hawk, I have watched a red one stock climbing up an impossible rock step on TH-cam and I would not even attempt it with my tundra.

    • @off-roadingexplained8417
      @off-roadingexplained8417 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@4WDisLife yeah I love that video. That guy is stock!!! Crazy stuff. It's good and bad that the springs are stiff. It would be interesting to see how the Cherokee would perform with softer springs but I don't know if anybody makes them. Dobbison's make some aftermarket springs but they are 10% stiffer I think.
      It's a teeter totter .... BUT... It drives like a sports car on the road. Even with a lift I can punch it on a sharp turn ...in the rain... and around turns and since it's also AWD its just glued to the pavement. Did it yesterday. Check it out. This is one of those tilted U-turns the road actually slopes down to my right (which should widen my turn but it just hooks. I change Lanes but could easily hold the left lane. No rear wheel fishtail or anything) ... I punch it in a left U-turn .. nothing... Just glue ! Love it!
      That said, the stiff springs help it hold it's clearance. I definitely air down on trails. I drop from 36 down to 25. I'd go lower I'd I had beadlocks too. Smooth it out.
