lol. About 20 years ago my buddy moved into a new house with a big L shaped back yard. We made a par 4 in his yard. There was a pine tree at the bottom of the L shape blocking the direct shot to the green that we made. Therefore we had to lay up then hit the second shot to the green. Everything pitching wedge. lol. The green was only 5ft by 5ft. We made the green by lowering the blades on the lawn mower to their lowest point. We then dug a hole and put a plastic drinking cup in it. We spent plenty of afternoons drinking and playing a faux round of golf. Even betting. lol. Total cost to build was zero dollars. Total fun was tremendous! Enjoy your better version. We had tons of fun with ours.

Bottom line: if you don’t have a ton of property and money then live vicariously through Spud Run Golf and if you have to have a green get a synthetic for about $10,000 and have little to no maintenance for 10 years. This is from somebody who is speaking from experience. I’ve tried to grow a green for 2 years now and there is ALWAYS something going wrong. Herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, fertilizer, drought, mower maintenance, etc etc etc. and that’s AFTER you do all the work of installing the green. I keep doing it because I actually enjoy doing the work but most people think I’m crazy…..including my wife. Great content as always, keep making the videos!

I always had to ride out and adjust those greens mowers so they would be accurate if they left lines on the grass. then you have all of the chemical and feed treatments, it's not for everyone and it's not as easy as some might imagine, no way. it will be very expensive but awesome to do. 🏁

This is really cool. I have a farm and live in Alaska right now, but we're planning on moving to Oklahoma next year. I've been toying with the idea of a putting/chipping green and a driving range. I'll have to check out more of your videos.
Oh you also forgot something lining the green with special geofabric, around the sides if you don't you get a wicking affect where the clay soil pulls the moisture out of the root zone, ending up with dry soil and turf issues in the front like you have. If the green falls from front to back, or like any real green falling to any side you should add a smile drain because moisture can build up especially with the geofabric. The smile drain runs along the edge of the front of the green like 6 to 12 inches from the edge, hence giving a smile affect, it catches any water the drainage misses
This is why golf started on mostly links land in UK and Ireland there was almost no costs involved , the sand based land didn't require draining and no need for sprinklers as the was a plentiful supply of water from the sky 🌦☔the greens were basically just mowed out of the end of the fairway the land being naturally smooth having been under water thousands of years ago......
That is such a great idea. I'd like to see how you could add a water obstacle in front of the tee box. I will definitely be keeping up with your videos. Thank you for all my ideas in my head now.

They have obviously found you without them, but just a thought. Thanks for the insight on what it would take. I am hoping I get a few lucky lottery tickets and scratchers for the holidays. Are you for hire? Happy Holidays!
There is a guy in the Hamptons where I grew up that built his on a little golf course directly across the street from a golf course the property he used was $1 million an acre. I’m sure there are videos of it on TH-cam. It’s Bridgehampton
I liked and subscribed for 1 reason. Because it's the right thing to do! If we as a community can click a few buttons to help this man achieve this, then that's seconds well spent! Good luck brother, enjoy life.
Sort of why I went for the pasture golf/links style when putting together my own course, like the old timers used to make. The land is unaltered other than regular mowing, and the greens have a bit of sand and the occasional rolling, but that's it. A lot of old-time greens were actually "browns" being just dirt or sand patches, so it's something to consider if you want to ease the complexity and maintenance side of things. It's a bit more rough and ready than the finely manicured complexes we have today, but it serves. Add some hickory clubs, and it's like stepping back in time. If you have a green spot, you can have a course of some kind. I've seen people with very limited space make chippng courses on their lawns or use limited flight balls to drive then regular ones to putt out.
Awesome, been working on my green for years and I'm very afraid to add up the costs. Somehow your video makes me feel so much better. Keep up the amazing work and forget about the cost.lol.
This is awesome, I've always wanted just a nice putting green at my home. Seeing you do this it is good great. I hope to see you hit a few balls on this green. I wish you the best, it's always good to see this going on
If you lived in a different location, sure Fescue would make sense but not in Ohio where if also gets hot AF and droughts are common. It's your hole and you can do whatever you want but with newer technology and better cultivars we aim to save water and use the best grass that fits the needs of the course or your hole in this situation. Good luck with the Fescue but cutting it short brings in all kinds of factors once it matures and gets some age and I believe other grasses would of been a far better choice with less needed to be put into it
Building it is easy, maintaining it is a different story!! Funny story about my bent grass, I ended up having to order it from Jersey, when it showed up, it was labeled as from Oregon, Funny part is, I live in Oregon...😆

They have obviously found you without them, but just a thought. Thanks for the insight on what it would take. I am hoping I get a few lucky lottery tickets and scratchers for the holidays. Are you for hire? Happy Holidays!
That would be a really fun gig .I always have vision of places that could harbor a killer golf hole .
It’s super satisfying. I enjoy working on the daggone thing as much as playing, haha.
Super cool project at Spud Run! I’d really enjoy seeing the tee box Locations and yardages!! 👍
Cheers!!
Check out this video. I have the yardages on each of the current tees.

Just found your channel and just wanted to give you a big compliment on the content and the course!
Awesome, thanks. The channel has been growing very well in the last week.
Staying tuned
That’s what I’m talkin bout!
Looks like you're off to a good start there! Nice job!
Great stuff brother. Looking forward to more videos.
Im trying to take advantage of the mild temperatures this week in order to bank some winter content. Thanks for watching.
Good stuff, thanks for commenting
I literally THOUGHT about building a hole in my back yard and opened my youtube and here I am, internet is wild.
Get to it Preston! Haha
Awesome, been working on my green for years and I'm very afraid to add up the costs. Somehow your video makes me feel so much better. Keep up the amazing work and forget about the cost.lol.
If was not for this video I would not have figured the cost. Haha. Thanks for tuning in!
so cool man keep it up hope your channel grows so you can build a full 18 holes
This is awesome, I've always wanted just a nice putting green at my home. Seeing you do this it is good great. I hope to see you hit a few balls on this green. I wish you the best, it's always good to see this going on
We have some videos now of actual play on the hole.
Very cool. Thank you for sharing.
I'd rather have my own golf hole in my backyard than a Harley or any other type of toy vehicle any day! This is awesome and I'm super jealous.
Fantastic video, really broken down well
Cheers buddy. It'll be a while before I build my own golf hole/course but I will one day have one 💯👌🏼👍🏼👊🏼👊🏼
Get it done partner!
That intro with the music 🔥
Keep at it!
Sometimes the music can be tough to pick out. Really glad you liked it!
Very cool thanks for sharing.
If you lived in a different location, sure Fescue would make sense but not in Ohio where if also gets hot AF and droughts are common. It's your hole and you can do whatever you want but with newer technology and better cultivars we aim to save water and use the best grass that fits the needs of the course or your hole in this situation. Good luck with the Fescue but cutting it short brings in all kinds of factors once it matures and gets some age and I believe other grasses would of been a far better choice with less needed to be put into it
This is amazing! I was just thinking about this as a future land owner, I mean a guy can dream, right?
Don’t know if you mentioned, but where are you at? You mentioned oakmont country club which is just 30 min away from me. Great course btw
Southern ohio
Building it is easy, maintaining it is a different story!!
Funny story about my bent grass, I ended up having to order it from Jersey, when it showed up, it was labeled as from Oregon, Funny part is, I live in Oregon...😆
I agree with your first sentence. You live in the seed capital, haha

A few bunkers around the green would make it pop!
