Travis, the ZMAN TRD Ned Rig stick baits stay on the hook forever. They are actually hard to get off the hook if you want to change colors. Awesome baits.
Ive been using gajos on the river and lake ontario since William Clute started making them and ive been doing the exact same thing with the sticks to put on a ned rig. Interesting to see I'm not just an idiot for trying this years ago haha.
I can hear ur line to line knot, try modified Albright. I tried most stick baits and in my experience nothing beats a zman, the weight is perfect to allow it to be buoyant...
use to use simular set up in canada with my grandfather in the 70's , you ever use flatfish for smallies? i used them in bull dog tourny years ago , time too get the stratos out of retirement.
after seeing the 4th vid of the new rig i kinda giggle , ole school , forgotten stuff may be a new soft bait but same as 40 yrs ago got a whole can of same jig head , still tie deer hair jigs today . new ahh i guess makes people feel better. no harm intended crush.
What kind of knot do you use to tie your leader to your braid? I use the crazy Alberto knot which works really well... just wondering if you like something different. Thanks!
Love all your videos. Now, after seeing this and your Zman video. Would you say you use this Gajo stick or do you just use the Zman now? Which is the superior bait? Also, I’m heading to Susquehanna River this weekend, taking my dad for his 60th birthday. It’s been rainy, water has evened out but it’s a little murky. What would you have tied on? Just curious. Thanks Travis
Just found your channel and it's a good one. Have been out of fishing for the last three years due to medical issues between both my wife and me and need to get back to it, hopefully soon. Believe the Ned Rig was just getting recognized about the time I got out of fishing and haven't used it yet. I've always loved fishing a jig of some type but have not used a Ned per se. It seems to use even less movement than say, a jig worm. Does the shape of the head really make much difference?
do the Gajo's stand vertical (and are buoyant) like the Zman TRD's? (Apologies if you covered their appearence in the water during video... I must have missed it)
Some beautiful fish there! For me, I wouldn't use anything but a Z-Man bait for a Ned rig. It's designed to work a certain way and imo, they just work better. Idk what a Gajo is and I'm willing to bet you'd have caught more fish if u were using the Z-Man baits. I guess I have a touch of OCD and it's tough for me to use something that's not made for what it is. Ned Rig = Z-Man baits so they stand up. Cost wise, you'll save TONS of $ using the same Z-Man bait ALLLLL DAY!
So that comes with time on the water and being able to read the water. If you have a electronics that you can use you will be able to find transition areas, humps, reefs, rocky areas, grass edges, etc. Those are places that hold fish. If you dont have electronics then seeing your target is your best bet. So you have to focus on docks, other man made structure, wood, laydown, rocky shorelines, points and bridges. It works from very shallow water down to as deep as you feel there is fish which on some lakes this time of year could be 30 plus feet.
I was using the Zman heads for Ned Rigs at first and then I put a hand poured one on that I believe has a better hook. I need to find the perfect hook for that. I think the Zman are fine but the hook is a little too light for me.
Do the Gopher Tackle jig heads keep the elaztech on without using glue? I know the zman heads are great for the material but would like to try out other brands--plus Gopher Tackle offer many more size options.
Gopher Tackle makes nice jigheads but they are ridiculous to order from. It is nothing for them to take six, seven, eight months to fill your order. I placed an order in September 2017 and it is now February 2018 and I still haven't received my order. And you would have a better chance getting Santa Claus to answer an email or phone call than them. Great product, piss poor customer service. Hell, they may not even be open now.

Thank you Travis for the tips going to try for smallmouths this year.
Ned Rig is the best bait for smallies.... I crush it on the St. Lawerence using them. I catch everything from carp to pike but the smallies love it.
Awesome it works used on the ct.river yesterday

Im sure you have been cracking them on it!

I do like both....ZMan is going to be a bit more bouyant. In clear water the Gajo Stick certainly has its place though.

I'll have to add this to my smallmouth baits for lake Michigan looks like it works great thanks for the tips😊
shared, great stuff
what size weight are you using on the hook? actually, what kind of ned rig hook do you use?
I use a special one made my a guy I know up on the St Lawrence river....mostly use a 1/8 head
What is the secret to knowing where to cast on a lake to make the ned rig's effective?

Good video, very informative.Thanks
Glad you liked it!
How about the tubes in plastic storage container? Do they do the same as the Zman plastic?
No they wont loose form. Zman must be kept in there seperate bags otherwise they melt together. These tubes are fine in plastic containers.
Facebook and Twitter shared (don’t have Insta 🤷🏻♂️)
Travis what brand heads were you using for those ?
I was using the Zman heads for Ned Rigs at first and then I put a hand poured one on that I believe has a better hook. I need to find the perfect hook for that. I think the Zman are fine but the hook is a little too light for me.
Gopher Tackle provides a variety of colors and hook choices.
