- With all these new NED baits, which ones actually catch fish? There are so many new worms, creatures, and craws its hard to keep up! Today we're taking 9 of the most unique NED RIG baits underwater to see how they compare. Let's look at their actions and profiles so you can decide which ned rig worms you should be using on your next bass fishing trip!
Ned Rig baits were the talk of ICAST this year. Every company introduced a Ned Worm, some introduced entire lines of Ned products. So how do you know which are actually worth your time? These 9 offerings looked the best "on the shelf" to us. We always like to show the bass something different and each of these offerings had a unique feature. After gathering underwater footage of how they moved, we definitely found some favorites.

Dam wish I had sandy bottom lakes to fish so I can work baits like this without getting caught up on everything
Use smaller weights. I fish ga lakes filled with muck and grass and weeds and all types of stuff. I use 1/4 or smaller weight in naster bottoms.

Great video. Have a request for you guys. Would it be possible for the next underwater video you guys make, to do split screen footage of the lure underwater and of you working the rod up top? That way we could see what retrieval movements cause the different movements of the lure underwater. Thanks for everything you guys do. Very much appreciate you both for all your time and hard work.
Ned is an awesome bass producer, slow presentation and perfect for the kayak.
I definitely think that the appearance is crucial to get the attention of a bass, but I'm wondering if adding something to make a rattling sound during the motion of the Ned Rig baits will also help. For example, live crawdads because of their hard exoskeleton surfaces must make a sound when they move around the bottom of the terrain that contain rocks and pebbles. Whenever I see a group of crawdads in my bucket you can definitely hear their movements.
I've been contemplating on this idea for sometime now. Too complicated or unnecessary???

IV been on the trd crawz molting craw color it works every time and it has the black beady eyes that stick off the body that I think gives it it's best look

I love TRD caught a good bass yesterday using craw color large TRD on a dropshot right before that I used a bonehead first catches on dropshot. 3rd strike when I cast I got smooth broke off after somethingvtook 3'of line on my drag😐

Thanks for this Ned video! I gave up on the Zman brand, I just cannot seem to keep that elaztech away from my other plastics, what a mess that elaztech is! Love the colors, hate the mess. Even tried having a separate box for Zman, those little TRD still found their way back into the main box. I started cutting Yum Dingers to 3", and while they don't float, the bass have been hitting them just fine. Looking to try the Strike King Ned Ocho.
Keep them in the bag they come in and no problem. I use a KVD tackle bag for the bags. Doing bait reviews for bass and crappie. FLC
I ran into the same situation when I first started using zman product.
I now just put my used lures back into the same bag they came out of with no issues. Theres a little oil in the bag so when you put them back just message it around so it gets some oil on it.
Love the underwater footage. Great to see how neds handle underwater in a more detailed way. Another great video, going to try some of these new brands to expand the ned rig arsenal from zman and robo.

Matt, you and I go way back on the Ned Rig, so you know I have to comment! Loved the video. Cool to see these new profiles underwater. Really blown away by all the new designs coming out. I would add the 3" Zman Slim SwimZ in green pumpkin. Seen it mentioned a few times already. That tail is soooo good, even going as light as 1/15. Keep the Ned content coming!
The Ticklerz in California Craw and Smelt have netted me three consecutive PB smallies and largemouth. Damn I love that bait!
At 5:10, if the fish are aggressive, I'm probably not fishing a ned rig. I consider it more of a finicky fish kind of setup, but I appreciate the contrast you provided for the different styles!

I have thrown almost all of these ned baits and one more I would consider a ned rig bait is the new Baby Bug by Strike King. It gives it that original kick/action like the structure bug unlike the ned bug. I throw it on a 1/5oz 1/0 ned rig and it slays the bass. Definitely one to put in your arsenal over the ned bug in my opinion. Give it a look Matt.
The Ned Cut R looked like I had hoped. I like it and same with the Ticklerz. Looked how I hoped it would under water. Glad I have both!!
Hey Matt and Tim, do you envision the original TRD simple design ever becoming obsolete as new Ned bait designs incorporate more enticing bait action on the fall and at rest? I'd have to think the Ticklerz design or the beaver tail/craw profile baits you reviewed will trigger more reaction strikes without having action that's too aggressive.
Love these types of videos. Being able to see how the baits look underwater and riggings. Looking to add rage bug to small jigs as well. XZone I’ve heard good things and looked really good as well as the Reins. Missile Bomb looks great
I think I like the Z Tickler profile, since I've had good luck with tube baits in the past. I'm curious about the NEW Googan Rattling NED, if the rattle is a desirable trait when fishing a NED??? Thanks in advance & thank you for the excellent reviews & tips.

Forgot my NED box last summer. In a desperation attempt I cut a Berkeley power worm off at the collar. Put it on the jighead back wards through the collar and tore em up.
Almost all my fish from July to Jan have come on the TRD Bugz...Love me some green pumpkin ned rig.

I HATE googan, but I was in the market for glass rattles. Not gonna lie, for the glass rattles inside the worm, its worth it.

@@Tokes_Outdoors yup. Glass rattles are crazy expensive. It's like getting 2 products in one. That's the only googan bait I'll ever buy.
@@hbeefk11379 I haven't had any luck with em yet... Can't say that I've tried much, but I do own a few packs. I've always been told "don't fix what's not broke", and I tell ya what.... those Z-MAN TRD plastics are insanely good! So I really can't say that I've really needed to try the Rat Neds yet lol.
@@Tokes_Outdoors I've caught some nice smallies and larries on em. Agreed 100% though. TRDs live up to their name. And they last a million years. Jig heads fail on me well before the worm. Elaztech is the best soft plastic.
The Yum Ned Craw certainly stood out by it's color.

The only one of these that I have tried so far is the Ned Bomb. Didn’t catch fish very well, went back to the TRD and started catching them that day. Tried the bomb with no luck other days as well.
X-zone makes a floating craw that’s killer on a Tokyo rig.

I recommend the zman swimz on a Ned head. Gives the best of both worlds. You can swim it or bounce it anywhere you can use a Ned. Crushed smallies with it.

I have had good success with the Yum Craw. Mainly green pumpkin color. I was using it before I had ever heard of a ned rig. Good baits.
First time I tried a Ned rig, I used a yum craw (didn't have any TRD worms on me!)... and I got hit by a crappie on the first cast. Unfortunately I got snagged on a rock on the second cast and ended up bending over the hook point when I shook it free!
I really liked the looks of the Zman bugz and the Ticklerz. I was also impressed with the missile Ned bomb. I liked the action and the color of it.
Would've loved to see the one by 10,000 fish. Sekoshi bug or whatever. Great video!

Another awesome Ned bait that is the lesser known Biwaa Patate it's a fatter profile and almost always out fishes the standard T.R.D
Hi Matt, so glad you did this video. I actually purchased the X zone bait a few months back. I also noticed Dudley was using something very similar if not this bait and killing them. LOL however, definitely going to invest in ticklers and a few others to add to my net rig collection.haha
Dragon Fly Nymphs are like Sentinels to insect larva. Vicious hunters. They'll even go after fry.
But what's really unique about them is they don't swim by paddling. They are Jet Driven.
They have gills that intake water inside their body and force it out rectum with enough pressure to propel them through the water. (I sh*t you not)
So it's like they're already behaving like a dragon fly underwater, flying from spot to spot, then scavenging around on their six legs. They also have huge eyes and a huge lower jaw to find and devour their underdeveloped prey.
So Matt, that hopping it off the bottom thing with the TRD is a very dragonfly thing to do.
I had really good luck last year using the Z-Man Trick Shotz on a Ned head.

I really liked this video to show the various new creature options. I do think what you are showing is more of a power fishing application of the "Ned" technique. You really shouldn't be dragging a TRD sized lure and 1/5 oz is honestly really heavy from my experience. I use a 1/15 or 1/20 oz and most of my bites are on the fall. I just don't get those bites with a heavier jig even a 1/10 oz.

I got into the zmans t icklerz this summer up here in Maine. The hot snakes color can't be resisted by smallmouth.

I've used missle baits and have had luck Everytime I've thrown it
I use the Missile Baits Ned Bombs as well as the Robo Ned models but, they are not durable at all compared to Zman.... I think I will stick with the Zman just for the stretch and durability bite after bite. Love the BugZ and Rage Ned Bug footage... gonna try them on a finesse jig for sure.

I have had a lot of luck lately on the YUM Crawbug on the ned rig.
I have had Large Mouth success with the TRD Craw.
What knot works best for this rig?... My knot kept slipping during casts towards the front of the eye (12-3 o'clock)... I'm thinking that we want the knot in the 9-12 o'clock position on the eye instead of the traditional 12-3 o'clock position... please let me know....
I’m new to the bed rig, tried out the trd ticklerz in new deal and trd bugz in hot craw and tore up some bass and pickerel in a pond near by (coastal va)
I also made a Double fluke drop shot....what a crazy lookin rig. Gotta givem a different look

Good stuff-I’ve been using z mans slim swim swimbaits on a Ned head and getting good results
Having tried out the BugZ...the BugZ is an amazing Ned rigging lure as far as catching bass goes. However, it's not nearly as durable as a TRD. The problem is the shape. There's a narrow channel in the body of the bait where the shaft of your hook goes. Due to the little retaining hook in the Z-man TRD heads, this means the body of the lure has a tendency to get ripped up along that depression.
Its the exact same weakness as the Reaction Innovations Beavers. That thin spot is definitely the failure point. But they sure slay while they hold!!
Z-Man really knows what they are doing. I currently only have a couple of their baits, but they work so well. So I am planning on getting more of their products. The Ned Craw seems like a no brainer for smallmouth.

Awesome video as usual. Really cool to see new fads come of old stand-by's of years past. Bunch of old corroded half moon jigs with small worms on them in gramps old tackle box but never heard the word ned. Ned bomb looks a lot like an erie darter which is all but forgotten outside of the great lakes region.
I know summers ending but I would love to hear about fishing topwater mid day. Like around docks and stuff. Idk when and where to know to throw topwater mid day because I’ve heard it works with the right conditions

I have been using the ticklerz in the deal color and caught several large mouth. I have even caught a 5 pounder on it.

The 1st time I went fishing for smallies on the Musselshell River I saw water that totally would have been trout water if it was cold enough. The dragon fly nymph, a tested fly fishing lure, sure makes sense for bass AND trouts.
I used the tickler at Bass Lake and slayed the spots. I love them
