I made this recipe recipe & I absolutely loved the flan texture. Will defiantly be making this again. I did substitute the caramel sauce with coffee syrup & it was divine. Thanks for this recipe.
I just made this for the first time and it came out great! I don't have a bundt cake pan so I used an angel food cake pan. My chocolate cake came out very dense, like fudge. Is it supposed to be dense? I know it carries the weight of the flan when removed from the pan. Even if the density is a mistake on my part, everything was so tasty it will definitely be made again! (MUST HAVE WHIPPED CREAM WITH IT!) Thanks!
For the chocolate cake you can use a chocolate cake mix. I avoided the caramel sauce as it was too sweet and cake still taste just as good. Thanks for sharing.
+purpleshammrock That's a great short cut using the chocolate cake mix--appreciate you sharing that! Yes, the cake is sweet and skipping the caramel sauce is a good option or even serving it on the side. Thanks for trying the recipe.
Making this right now. Doing this as a practice run. I am making this cake for a party on Saturday and want to get it right. I had about a cup of flan batter leftover. For the flan batter, can I reduce the milk to one cup and the whole eggs to five?
+RunAwayRice - I had to bake an additional 45 minutes. I let the cake chill overnight. I just unmolded it. the cake was already separated from the sides of the cake pan! BONUS!!! The cake unmolded without incident and it looks gorgeous! I didn't make the caramel sauce as dark as you did in your video and I am thankful I didn't as my caramel sauce darkened a bit more, which I expected. Can't wait to taste it. I will make again with the reduced flan batter and keep the caramel sauce lighter. Thanks for sharing the recipe.
+socialitebite Hi, that seems like quite a bit more time but oven temps do vary. I am so glad to hear your cake turned out perfectly. AWESOME! Kudos to you. Have fun at your party :)
+RunAwayRice - I made it a second time for my party. The reduced flan batter did help reduce cooking time to bring it closer to an hour and a half, however I still had a significant amount of flan batter left over. Maybe my bundt pan is smaller. I also added 1/3 cup of corn syrup to the caramel sauce while making it to better stabilize the sauce. That worked very well. In all, very nice recipe.
Hi Elvita, I've never made this cake without the cream cheese. It's worth a try and you may want to reduce the milk to keep the mixture the same thickness. Good Luck and let me know how it turns out for you.
RunAwayRice hi i am making this chocolate flan cake today....you have written half a cup flour but in the video it looks much more then that .. please help half a tea cup or what should i use
You can add one can of evaporated milk and adjust condensed milk to taste. I never use a whole can as it is too sweet. Do this and taste how sweet u want before adding the eggs. I use 6 whole eggs.
purpleshaammrock, so you just used 6 eggs instead of 10 eggs ( excluded 4 egg yolks), right?...cause I really don't want to use freaking 12 eggs for one cake lol!
Okay so I made this at home and I noticed after I started to layer the mixtures that I put the flan directly into the caramel layer and then placed the chocolate cake mixture on top. Do the layers naturally settle themselves? It was too late to fix it so I hope it comes out ok.
+Niziad Encabo The cake is more solid so I think it will sink to the bottom if you add the flan mixture first. You will probably get a marbled-looking cake.
Try a cherry liqueur (Grand Marnier) or black raspberry(Chambord) --it compliments the chocolate really well! I would add the liqueur to the chocolate cake layer. Yum!
What an awesome recipe, Trang! I love the two layers of flavor and the magic that occurred when they switched positions during the baking process. The combo of chocolate and flan is heavenly!
looks so yummy....does the flan has air bubbles? I've been searching for a nice evenly velvet flan without air bubbles... also can I use 2 evaporated milk instead of the regular milk? will that make a difference? thanks
Hi, no the flan doesn't have air bubbles and is really smooth. To substitute evaporated milk for the buttermilk, combine 1/2 cup evaporated milk + 1/2 Tbsp vinegar or lemon juice. Good Luck!
Hi, I so new in cooking, plz answer some of my questions, could I use any regular baking dish other than the type shown. Also can I do half the flan amount keeping the cake amount same
Hi chi, I find it's really interesting when seeing you used cream cheese to make flan. I bought like 3 lbs cream cheese brick from Sam's club for Thanksgiving but only ended up finishing like 8oz for a cheeseball, 8oz for mini fruit tart and I ran out of idea for the rest. now I have to try your flan recipe. : )
+May Lily Hi May, the cream cheese makes the flan portion firmer and it tastes really good! Sounds like you have plenty of cream cheese already so I hope you make this and share your results.
+Joy Anou Yes, you can use a round cake pan instead of a bundt pan. Depending on the size, a round cake may take longer to bake. Check for doneness using a toothpick and it should come out clean.
My first thought is the cake wasn't baked enough to set the flan. If parts of the flan are runny then perhaps the ingredients weren't combined together well enough. How did the chocolate cake portion turn out?
FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS EXACTLY AND DO NOT SUBSTITUTE OR OMIT INGREDIENTS. EAGLE BRAND CONDENSED MILK IS IMPORTANT OR THE FLAN WILL NOT SET. IF YOU MAKE CHANGES IN THIS RECIPE AND GET A BAD OUTCOME YOU HAVE ONLY YOURSELF TO BLAME. I'VE MADE THIS RECIPE AT LEAST 50 TIMES AND IT TURNS OUT PERFECT EVERY SINGLE TIME.
+RunAwayRice this looks so delicious I planned to bake this cake when I have a party but,can you please make New york Style Cheesecake? I chose you to be the one to bake The Best New york Cheesecake. Please answer me :)
👍 good program! Thnk you for giving d measurement’s of your ingredients in cups n spoons. Most of us viewers don’t have weighing scales.
Your voice is so soothing!! I lose focus on the cake but instead just listen to your instructions
Aw...you're very sweet. Thank you!
I made this recipe recipe & I absolutely loved the flan texture. Will defiantly be making this again. I did substitute the caramel sauce with coffee syrup & it was divine. Thanks for this recipe.
Yummy, I love that you used coffee syrup. I will have to try that next time since I love coffee. Thanks for sharing! :)
amazing cake and it looks so yummy! i must try this recipe. Thanks for sharing this video recipe...
+Enz Canlas You're welcome! It's easy and everyone will love it!
Looks great...
Looks wonderful.
+Cathy Cee Thanks Cathy! Hope you give the recipe a try.
I will. :)

I love your flan to cake ratio
Nice. No muss, no fuss video tutorial. I'll have to try this recipe one of these days. :)
wow this looks good
+Julia Lupercio Thanks Julia. I hope you give the recipe a try...it's so yummy!
Omg this is amazing!!!! Like magic
wonderful video an easy to follow..but is the cream cheese necessary to make the flan for this type of cake?
+Aruna S It provides the density needed for the flan and offsets the sugar with its tartness. You can try it without and see how it works for you.
ok thank you
Ty, I will subscribe & Happy Thanksgiving ❤❤😊
This looks absolutely delicious! I'm going to have to try to make this over my holidays.
+Kim July hi Kim, this is a perfect cake for the holidays as it's decadent and all of these calories should be shared :)
Also, can I use creme caramel mix instead of making flan from scratch?
Flan and cheesecake.....so yummy!
Making this right now. Doing this as a practice run. I am making this cake for a party on Saturday and want to get it right. I had about a cup of flan batter leftover. For the flan batter, can I reduce the milk to one cup and the whole eggs to five?
Yes, that's just fine. Would love to hear what you think of the recipe!
+RunAwayRice - I had to bake an additional 45 minutes. I let the cake chill overnight. I just unmolded it. the cake was already separated from the sides of the cake pan! BONUS!!! Hi, if I don't use cream cheese to the custard mixture, will it work?
Hi Elvita, I've never made this cake without the cream cheese. It's worth a try and you may want to reduce the milk to keep the mixture the same thickness. Good Luck and let me know how it turns out for you.
RunAwayRice hi i am making this chocolate flan cake today....you have written half a cup flour but in the video it looks much more then that .. please help half a tea cup or what should i use
I followed this recipe to the T and it came out perfectly
become upside down... wow amazing.... love to eat the flan
+Mitch Cheng It's magic :)
+RunAwayRice it's very nice
AWESOME!!!!! Thank you!
The cake came out perfect, but too sweet for the Flan. Can I adjust two condense milks into one? will it work for the cake?
You can give it a try but the flan may not set properly without the extra can of condensed milk.
You can add one can of evaporated milk and adjust condensed milk to taste. I never use a whole can as it is too sweet. Do this and taste how sweet u want before adding the eggs. I use 6 whole eggs.

How did it turn out? Did you get separate layers or a marbled cake?
but how did the flan mixture get there insted of the chocolate
+MakeupbyChula That's the "magic" with this cake. The flan and chocolate layers switch during baking. :)
I just saw this comment, that was my question too. I am making one now but I reversed the layers not knowing they would "magically" turn 😐
Kristin S. EB nhhszgq
The cake is airy and light whereas the flan is dense, so it sinks to the bottom whilst the cake is baking.
its posible also you can puy first the flan mixture then the cake misture?
+Niziad Encabo The cake is more solid so I think it will sink to the bottom if you add the flan mixture first. You will probably get a marbled-looking cake.
+RunAwayRice
ok got it thank you need to try now looks so yummmmy
I would like to try this recipe but want to add some kind of liquor flavor. Any suggestions or tips?
Try a cherry liqueur (Grand Marnier) or black raspberry(Chambord) --it compliments the chocolate really well! I would add the liqueur to the chocolate cake layer. Yum!
can i steam it? i dont have oven..
I haven't tried steaming this cake. If you give it a try, let me know how it turns out for you.
Ok :)
Ashlee camello
So Ashlee have you tried steaming it? I don't have an oven too.
What an awesome recipe, Trang! I love the two layers of flavor and the magic that occurred when they switched positions during the baking process. The combo of chocolate and flan is heavenly!
+Doodah Gurl Thanks! The cake really is scrumptious!
awesome
looks so yummy....does the flan has air bubbles? I've been searching for a nice evenly velvet flan without air bubbles... also can I use 2 evaporated milk instead of the regular milk? will that make a difference? thanks

Yum
Hii sorry if u dont mind can i get the ingredients in gram size ? Bcause in my country we use a gram size so i lil bit confuse 😁 thank u 🥰
Hi, I so new in cooking, plz answer some of my questions, could I use any regular baking dish other than the type shown. Also can I do half the flan amount keeping the cake amount same
Yes to both of your questions. Enjoy the recipe and stop back to share your results.
Just wondering if I can use less eggs? too many eggs for one dessert
Yep, you can reduce the number of eggs. Good Luck!
How the chocolate part is coming up in the diece????
+Afra Ibnat It's magic! :) Actually, it's the combination of ingredients, weight difference of the batters and use of the water bath. :)
magicaaal
so tastyy
enak banget👍👍

hi. can I use one can of codensed milk and one can of evaporated milk. I don't want the flan too sweet
Yes, you can do this, but add an extra egg to help firm it up. Good Luck!
plzz you send me details of this flan cake,,,,
+noman miaji The written recipe is on my blog: runawayrice.com/desserts/chocolate-flan-cake/ Let me know if you make this and how it turns out!
Can I make this cake using a regular round cake pan?
+Joy Anou Yes, you can use a round cake pan instead of a bundt pan. Depending on the size, a round cake may take longer to bake. Check for doneness using a toothpick and it should come out clean.
i m making this today ....but your half cup flour doesnt look like half a tea cup it looks much more then that please help asap
I use a US measuring cup and the recipe uses 1/2 cup + 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour

+Wendy Hough If your dad likes rich, he will definitely love this cake. Thanks for stopping by.

I want cake. Can I haz sum cek, plz?
+Ares Popal I encourage you to try this recipe and you can have this delicious cake!
I don't think I'm amazed by the flan flipping sides with the chocolate cake, as much as I am amazed how do you STAY THIN IF YOU EAT???
LOL! Don't eat the whole thing yourself. Save one little slice for yourself and then give the rest away!
thx
Wait I'm making this for school do I need the pan filled with water
You need to bake in the water bath. Good Luck!
How did they got switch ???
hello..
can i request for a brownie recipe? 😍
+Ibu Laila Ok, I will add to the list. If others want to add to this request, let me know :)
Great! Thanks a million..
I made this cake last night and set it to chill overnight. I followed the instructions but my flan is still runny and didn’t set. Any idea why?
My first thought is the cake wasn't baked enough to set the flan. If parts of the flan are runny then perhaps the ingredients weren't combined together well enough. How did the chocolate cake portion turn out?
can i just use 1 can of condense milk instead of two?
+Sammi Yen Hi Sammi, I haven't tried it with just 1 can of condensed milk. The flan may not set properly without the additional condensed milk.
Have you ever turned on the oven light and watched the baking process? 😶
LOL...I have not!
Please, write recipe in grams.
Why u add lemon?
XIO21805 flavor, and helps the caramel remain loose but optional!
The amount of flour does not seem right. No way you just used 1/2 cup, seems more, is it a mistake?
Use 1/2 cup + 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour. It's not a mistake. The cake needs to be denser to support the weight of the flan. Enjoy!

I have not tried it but other viewers were successful with using a cake mix. Good Luck!

+Aabir Rahman Thank you for watching!
substitute for bittermilk pls
You can combine 1/2 milk + 1 tsp lemon juice. Let stand for 15 minutes and use that in place of the buttermilk. Good Luck!
