As someone who grew up playing soccer in the US, it’s clear that most clubs and teams care more about money, than talent. If the US actually took soccer seriously, they would be a powerhouse but the amount of talented kids who get left behind and quit playing bc their parents can’t afford to sign them up to clubs is insane. Even in schools, parents who donate money to the organization get an edge and have their kids picked first to keep the money coming in which is sad but true
As an Englishman who has loosely followed US soccer for 30 years, I find the lack of progress around 'Grassroots' football is astounding. For a Country that has a huge population, excellent infrastructure & talented athlete's, it's crazy not to utilize that. I fear the lack of promotion & relegation within a closed system is a major reason for this.

Look at how Iceland collectively organized themselves to create a foundational system to grow the sport and provide the youth and upper level players the support they needed to progress. I think a successful 2026 WC campaign for the USMNT is getting out of the group and winning at least one knock out game. I think anything beyond that would icing on the cake. I do believe they have to win one knock out game to make the hire worth it.

If Pochettino and his coaches hold national tryouts for kids ages 16-22 and scout more MLS players combined with the current squad I think we have a chance. The mentality he brings is spot on.
I really enjoyed the play of USA IN 2006 World Cup. There’s nothing stopping them recapturing that energy and team work. Good affirmative play. Go for it. Enjoy the game as you play it.
The biggest problem I see with the USMNT is they have zero edge to them and no personality. Aside from Tyler Adams, very few players in the program play with any sort of nastiness to them. It’s all very bland and meh. Poch needs to bring that South American street smarts to the program and wake these players up ASAP. Because they are increasingly coming across as entitled and disinterested.
