I think the reason Pochettino kept Musah out wide and Tillman in the double pivot was player development. He wants to induce a sense of urgency from Tillman and he wants to encourage confidence to express himself from Musah.
They did a great job with maintaining a great confidence and play like a pro but they need to work on their defence as quick as possible but good job yesterday against the Jamaica
World Class teams also get ugly wins. It’s not always pretty but it’s important to win these games. It shows grit and fight. Doesn’t have to be pretty.
Good win for USA. I think people are overestimating the difference in collective quality between 🇺🇸 and 🇯🇲, especially with the injuries the US have right now. Road wins are never easy - Argentina just lost to Paraguay and the gap between those two sides is greater than the gap between USA and Jamaica. But credit to the Jamaica manager for the halftime adjustments. The second leg on Monday should be interesting.
To be fair, Mexico has beautiful fields. Azetca, Monterey and Guadalajara are beautiful fields, the latter two being newer stadiums too. Central American and Caribbean fields however, are absolutely bad pitches.
Musah is not good in the middle of the field. Putting Tillman was what Poch thought was the best option. Which looks bad for Musah. Dude was supposed to develop into a world class 8. Now he’s a solid right back.

The US started well but then the energy just fizzled out. I didn’t see any desire to win out there. Was it the heat and humidity? The terrible pitch? All I know is that the US won because they were lucky. Should have been a draw for a handball in the box or Jamaica could have had a chance to get a draw. Bottom line: US won not because they played well but because Jamaica were so bad.

Sorry but Pepi is just not the guy to start, he’s great off the bench. Balogun is our 9, Poch loves his nines to make those runs in between, outside, cross runs so Balo will work well in that 9 position when he gets bk. The trouble is can the wings and midfield be brave enough to make those passes.
Balogun sucked for his team last season and he hasn't really produced for the USMNT when he has played. People diss on Pepi, but he has delivered for the Nats more than Balogun has.

I can't believe how bad that pitch was. Did Jamaica do that on purpose for their opponent because they're screwing their own team, too?! Jamaica has guys that can fly, and if they had a decent surface, I think that would be more helpful with their pace. I know the caveat gives their opponent a chance to play better and smoother, too.
2-3 fields were bad during Copa. All the rest were pristine. I know this because I attended games in San Jose and Houston. Jamaica’s field- the only one that matters in the entire country- is trash. All the time.

The US didn't look too fussed when Jamaica went forward in the first half because they knew this. It was a different story in the second because the humidity caught up with them.
