    It does sadden me to see when unique races, characters, lore and more be slowly forgotten. Though on the flip side it brings a smile upon my face to see when Platinum makes another video shining some light on more lore of the Warcraft Universe.

      @The Gaming Paladin it was mostly how they wasted an amazing chance of development with the Amathet. I was invested in that "titanic creatures uprising to return order to the world" concept. It felt like they could have been so much more, instead of a bunch of half baked quest chains and an event. Hell, the king of the Amathet was a fucking rare mob, and even in their own quests they get played by the Old Gods, to the point some random mob in Ny'alotha is called Amathet too.
      Sich a cool concept (much like the mantids) ruined by not wanting to nurture new potential threats instead of just forcing them into cannon fodder material.

      It kind of makes sense when you have a game as old as wow to just make up a new race rather then trying to bring back an old one and figure out so what exactly what all the lore we wrote about these guys again? But it does make me sad. Remember Venari and those lads in the shadowlands? They could've been ethereals for instance.

    In the Paragon of the Klaxxi fight, Kil'ruk, the first mantid paragon you awaken, is the only one who doesn't threaten you. Before the fight, he gives you a warning(the other paragons mention this before the fight). He is also the LAST paragon that engages you, almost as if he is hesitant.
    As if he actually likes the player character and doesn't want to kill us because he's been with us the longest.
    My headcanon is that Kil'ruk only takes up his blades against us because we already killed several of his brothers and realizes he has a choice, let his brothers all die, or kill the player character.

    • @sylphephilippe449

      Its because Mantid value strengh above all, if they fight a Pandaren that slays a lot of them, they won't kill him so that they can train against him in the next swarm (or his progeniture). They're respectful and ask the same treatment in return, they want people to respect their cycle and lifestyle because its their only goal in life. Kil'ruk has a deep appreciation for the main character and praises its strenght, he doesn't want to kill you because it would be such a waste !

      Yes, correct. It made me sad to kill them, because they were respectful and understood what "honor" is. But we ended up on opposite sides. He himself says in one of the quests that he is "proud" to fight alongside you. And before he dies he says "Well fought, Wakener. We will meet again..." SoO was wonderfully designed, but also a very sad raid, because we had to kill characters which were a part of our journey - The Fallen Protectors, Nazgrim, Paragons, even Garrosh himself.

    5:38 one of my favourite scenes in the lore. After skipping through all of the quest text to exalted, hearing the Paragons basically telling the player "hey, we're cool after all those dailies, but we're actually really bad guys" was really interesting and made me go back to find out their lore.

    I think a major point of annoyance for me with the way Blizzard writes expansions, is the throwaway races they add every expansion and then NEVER revisit in future works.
    There are so many things they could do with some of these races if they just took the time to weave them into a larger narrative over more than one expansion.

    • @mokarokas-1727

      @The Gaming Paladin - Considering the Old Gods' goal is pretty straight-forward and the Mantid live only to be ready to fulfill it (not using their powers for good or anything), I'd say they're very clearly disciples of an inherent evil. They can still be evil without being raving psychopaths who spit curses at you. =)

    • @RyoIsamuGaming
      @RyoIsamuGaming ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mokarokas-1727 I'd say they're more pragmatic than evil - they know the Old God's are sealed and their primary God is dead, so no point is there to adhere to that kind of worship over strengthening your old over your dominion, not after what the trolls did to Kith'ix, anyways.
      They're a pretty morally grey race, and that's what I like about them. To them, swarming is but ensuring the empire remains strong, and the wisest among them called for crisis when the swarm began ten years too early and all stops wear pulled by the Empress. If they were truly evil they'd just let that happen, but the Klaxxi know if they swarm Pandaria - they'd overtake it and then what? Suddenly you just disposed of your primary method of keeping balance, a tradition that's been upheld for ages. It's why the Klaxxi are especially willing to accept outside aid as they know the value we possess, especially as one among them reawoke the Paragons before Shek'zara got to them.

    The mantid are one of my all-time favorite races from WoW, and I loved questing with and getting to know the Paragons with their different personalities. They were one of the few examples I enjoyed them both as enemies to slaughter or allies to help. And thus, I was so upset when the Paragons became raid bosses; yes, they were psychotic, but they were my friends too! In my head canon I saw the bow that drops from them as a parting gift to my hunter who quested with them, and to this day she still proudly wears the title Wakener. Thank you for this video covering them and reminding me of the good times I had with them and the fan fiction I wrote about them!

    • @RyoIsamuGaming
      @RyoIsamuGaming ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's really funny since they even fully admit that they are NOT your friends - come the return of the Old God's they're happy to return to their old worship, that being said they hope you heed their warning and join them, as helpful as you've been for sustaining their race.
      So when they see you in that raid it's a mix of disappointment and understanding - you were given that choice and you've made that choice, so it's the Wakener versus the very Paragons he rescued - insects you got to know but alas know they knew fully well it would come to blows eventually.
      And that's what I love about the Mantid. They're unapologetic about their origins but pragmatic in the current age. If only BFA capitalized on potential schism and concerns after the tragedy of their empire during MoP...

      I just feel like what people remember the most about MoP was how homogenised and samey all the classes got with all the changes along with how incredibly unbalanced PvP was. Oh and also pandas. Overall the expansion was actually pretty good. Same with WoD, Warlords is imo a great expansion just let down by its unfulfilled promises and cut content. The leveling experience in WoD is probably the best expansion ever released and it also has probably the best raid ever put out in Blackrock Foundry. Hellfire Citadel is also an all time great raid.

      WoD was definitely a massive blow for cut content though, you're right. We were supposed to fight orcs, not demons. Blackrock Foundry was so damn cool in both design and execution, absolutely. I'm glad I'm not the only one that had positive feelings for portions of that expansion.

    "They're territorial and aggressive" just reminds me of one of my favorite shitposts from the LOL subreddit, that had (among other stuff) "let's see how they updated the lore: 'he has a dark and mysterious past' damn, a solid 2 words above average, the lore team really worked overtime for this one" 😆
    Anyway, as someone who knows about Mantid only very slightly less than about other races (they appeared in Hearthstone, and that's my main source of info - in fact, I went into this video expecting it to be a top 10 or however many of most forgotten villains, and ready to say that I know all/some from HS 😅), TLthis was really interesting insight, and well presented! 👍

    Man, MoP really was my favourite era of Wow, and it's not close. (I played from wotlk)
    I was as bummed as everyone after the initial trailer, but everything they did, storywise, raid wise, even class wise to a, point was really great.

    The Mantid stand out to me as as Warcraft villains in that they truly feel like a noble adversary.
    They honor your help to them but make it clear where their allegiances lie and warn you that they WILL stand against you when the time comes.
    And when that time came and were defeated, they praise your valor for being willing to fighr the battle they warned you against.

    Man I love MoP lore, it was so cool to bring back Y'shaarj in form of 7 different beings and actually kill them one after another throughout the expansion. It gave lot of the content a nice continuation and more investment than say the current last boss of Abberus raid who's name i can't even remember, and he's seemingly communicating/drawing power from some old gods which should be pretty damn exciting, yet i'd rather fight another Sha or Sha-controlled mantid.

    Hey have you got any lore about the Pygmy race?
    They appear once in Goblin starting zone, we get a few quests to deal with them and then they never appear again

    • @jsc1jake512
      @jsc1jake512 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pygmy's also appear in Uldum but nowhere else aside from Goblin starting zone to my knowledge. They mostly serve as a minor thorn in your side, more of an annoyance than a real threat.
      Strangely, they appear somewhat similar to Murlocs behavioral-wise. They seem to worship anything that is stronger than them and are primitive and show little to no desire to advance technologically. Despite this, the Pygmy's are less isolationist than the Murlocs and actually seem to mingle with the other races of the world, though only to a certain degree.

    I am so pleased you made a video about the Mantid! I have been thinking about them so much recently because funnily enough, I had this really clear memory of interacting with insect/humanoid entities somewhere and I could not for the life of me remember where - then I see this video! I really wanted to find them again and now I have. I'm a sort of casual player with some breaks in between playing times so I sort of forgot their name (so your video title is apparently correct) but I had such a strong idea that they definitely existed ha!

    Man I remember starting when Pandaria was halfway there to the legion expansion, I specifically focused on the mantid beast tribe cause I really wanted their mount, and I of course achieved it, but it also made me really REALLY want a Mantid as a playable race, Bug people as a concept would be really fun to have, but sadly that was more then likely never going to happen, and it didn't. Still though I remember the Mantid fondly in my lackluster experience with WoW in general

  • @fumarc4501

    Like the Nerubians during WotLK, and the Qiraji before that.
    I had hoped BfA would expand on all of them. I hope we see them all again!

    • @emetanti
      @emetanti ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, the Qijraji probably got further decimated by Sargeras sword slamming into their neighborhood and in BFA you kinda put down that new Mantid Empress you put into power during MoP as a world boss.
      Nerubians got a slight chance though at a comeback, BFAs island expedition had one with some living ones, that living one from WOTLK remains unaccounted for and the remaining undead ones should be free of any influence with the Scourge completely uncontrolled/any Jailer influence gone with his death.
