Never heard this story, and now I know that was a good thing. Why do writers keep thinking these world breaking characters are a good idea, we're seeing them more and more frequently, in WoW and other fantasy universes...
Bad writers write badly. More news at 11. Most video game storywriters are writers that cant hack it on their own, they need to parasitically subsist off of a larger product's ability to draw in customers.
Mary Sues are a sign of ametur writing (or so I've heard, I'm not a writer) but honestly, I think it really is just a power fantasy, I remember reading that the term Mary Sue was coined when a Star Trek fan-fiction was made public with a Mary Sue character literally named Mary Sue
You ever read one of those really shitty OC characters that edgy teens like to write on OC sites? OC meaning "original character" (boy ain't that an irony). The ones where teens who really have no clue that power balance is what makes an interesting story and world, and just think making their character super cool, super strong and "always wins" are somehow a substitute character traits and personality? That's Med'an. He's just a warcraft OC. The author couldn't handle the fact that different powers exist and none of them have been proven as "superior" over the rest (neither Shamanistic/Druidic Nature Magic, Mage's Arcane or the Priestly Holy Light) so he just decided "Fuck it, give him everything, that way he can be overpowered without me needing to adhere to the established power balance of magic in this universe". And that's the sign of a really bad writer. One who hasn't outgrown his teenage worldview, or who simply thinks that "only dumb kids with power fantasies read and watch this".
I’ve read this comic book during my high school years. Back then I thought the story was bad. At least when the comic book series first started, it mainly focused on Varian trying to reclaim his throne. That arc had a lot of great character development for Varian, Broll and Valeera. But after Varian slew Onyxia, the series went down hill and focused on a generic Half Orc whose story is the been there done that chosen one storyline.
Aleksa Kurtovic Sylvannas is the ultimate B*tch Queen with the greatest plot armor ever created. Honestly Sylvannas went from being a mysterious character, to just a pain the ass.
It doesn't help that there seems to be sort of cannon confirmation with him, since Jaina has the white hair that gained when Med'an's grandmother gave to Jaina the last of her powers
It's like a fanfiction OC character that just destroys everything with his pinky and is apparently immortal too. How does some random boy suddenly go on a journey with wow's most important characters.
Like Sylvanas, I despise Me'dan's character for the fact that what made him "special" and overpowered was the nuances of a prophecy and literally every major magical character just "gifting" him their powers. Gaining new powers and becoming stronger doesn't make a strong character! In Sylvanas' case, it was getting new powers and plot-armor for some plot-turnaround that says "Oh she was doing this for the greater good". Naw, man: all this was because she was scared sh**less of going to Hell when she committed suicide off the Icecream Citadel.
I thought it was the Player’s Characters’ job to be the over powered one because of how their levels are, not Medan, Sylvanas and possibly Thrall. World of Warcraft has the same op power level problem that both Naruto, Dragon Ball and Sword Art Online has.
@@gamman1 No wait, I'm going to one-up you, what if we have.. Lightforged Undead Sylvanas who also absorbed the power of a Naaru and Guardian Med'an child, and the child is secretly the sibling of Azeroth.
Also the likely hood of a draenei, orc, and human, three different species that are literally from 3 different planets (argus, dreanor, azeroth) being able to conceive a child is just absurd.
Thrall was never that powerful. No need to backpedal. He earned his skills as a fighter in the arena since childhood, and as a shaman from Drek'thar's tutelage. He didn't one shot Deathwing either, despite how people remember the boss fight. Eye-rolling at Thrall is definitely misinformed.
I remember... when this comic was about Broll Bearmantle, Valeera Sanguinar, and Lo'gosh (half of Varian) together, doing arenas under Reghar's control.
Med'an is the lore representation of every one of "That ONE Roleplayer" on every RP server. You know the ones. Thank God Blizzard had the presence of mind to retcon him out of existence.
The thing I hate the most about Med'an is that Blizz totally messed up Garona's heritage and Warcraft 1's lore and timeline just to create this character. Before Med'an was an idea, Garona was half-Orc and half-HUMAN. The idea was that orcs had been on Azeroth for a long enough time for there to be an adult (or at least adolescent) half-orc, half-human hybrid to exist by the end of Warcraft 1. And this aspect of Garona was such an iconic, and tragic, and compelling story point. One of Garona's lines in "The Last Guardian" talks about how humans only ever see the parts of her that are orcish but orcs only ever see the parts of her that are human, that she is both and neither and considered inferior by both sides. She has lines about "feeling human, and I haven't felt human in a long time." But, nooooo, let's just trash the power of all those sentiments and make her half-draenei, instead, so she can have this super-duper awesome power child who is THREE races. Oh, and orcs have only been on Azeroth for like 5 years by then end of Warcraft 1.
I think the change of heritage was not done to jusify Me'Dan... but the other way around. Warcraft 1'story was pretty mutch made 'on the go'; and a whole universe had to be made form a bunch of names scribbled in a piece of paper as the games went on... what I mean is: there is an orc clan in Draenor called the Blackrock CLan, who PRECISELLY ends up rulling a mountain in Azeroth called Blackrock Mountain?... and speaking of Azeroth; in the first game Azeroth is the name of a kingdom with's capital is Stormwind... but in Warcraft II, Azeorth is a continent; from witch Stormwind is just a kingdom... but in Warcraft 3 onwards, Azeroth is the planet... or is it Stormwin the capital of the Kingom of Azeroth in the continent of Azeroth in the planet of Azeroth?? XDDD The biggest change in fact was the orcs been evil. In Og Warcraft, orcs qhe unnapollogetically evil; they where in legue with the demons very willinglly; and that was the appeal; been able to play with the bad guys, not saving the realm but destroying it. It was Warcraft III the game that made the tragic antiheroes; been deceived by demons to be their slaves; but with their main goal been survival, not conquest... So, in the same spirit of retcon; in Warcraft III we are presented with Gromash Hellscream; a cheftain born in Draenor, and veteran of the war against the Draenei, the Ist War andthe 2nd War.... and he was the first chieftain to drink the blood of Manoroth... but if the opening of the portal was decades before (or at least 15 years before) the Ist War... how long ago was the war against the Draenei? and if the Frostwlf clan was sepparated from the Horde inmediatelly after crossing the Portal... how is Thrall only in his twenties in Warcraft III? If Thrall was born soon after arriving to the planet... he should be rougthlly the same age as Garona, and therefore been allready anadult (or a late teen) by the time the 1st War ended... and we know he was still a baby... ...so the easiest way to re-con all that was to say that the orcs started the 1st war short after the opening of the portal...but this makes the plothole: then how Garona is posible? ...and that's why they came out with the half-draeney thing Don't make mewrong, i hate Me'Dan... but Garona's herotage... I see the reasoning
im sorry but doesnt sylvanas have to literally use magic to keep her form from just rotting away? and that she noticed she smells like a cadaver no matter how much she bathes? i know this is a joke comment... but i also know there are genuine sylvanas simps. like, bro, shes a walking corpse. there is no way youre getting it on even if she hypothetically agrees. just removing her clothes would probably overwhelm your nose with the stench of decay.
Thats why i love the old rpg books of warcraft. Its kinda plain/simple/cliche but its good and has his meta momments. Like Onyxia story, the war of the ancients, the emerald nightmare World wide invation, the dragons and the World trees, the council of the three hammers formation, the war of the shiftting sands and all Black Rock Mountain conflicts between his inhabitants (Dragons, Orcs, Trolls, Tauren, Ogre, Elementals, Black iron Dwarfs, slaves) vs Aliance/Horde
I predict the expansion after Shadowlands will be an anti-cataclysm where the old world gets a complete revamp and recovers into a more mundane and intimate setting more similar to Vanilla again, but obviously with modern graphics.

There's this phrase i heard that goes "the male equivalent of a Mary Sue is the protagonist". I've never seen a story that exemplifies this more than Medan's
Hey, since the characters we play in Warcraft lore are the savors of our factions, Outland, Northrend, Pandaria, Draenor, Azeroth and I guess soon we're going to save the entire Cosmos or whatever, doesn't that make us bigger Mary Sues than Me'dan.....?
At least with the customizable characters in World of Warcraft, we can project ourselves into the RPGs we’re playing. This is sort of the same thing like in Dragon Age (Origins/2/Inquisition/Veilguard), Fire Emblem (Awakening/Fates/Three Houses/Engage), Divinity Original Sin 2, Baldur’s Gate 3, White Knight Chronicles 1 and 2, Dragon’s Dogma 1 and 2, Fable 1, 2 and 3, Kingdoms of Amalur, South Park (Stick of Truth/Fractured But Whole/Snow Day), Fenyx Immortal Rising, Greed Fall, Rise of the Ronin, Hogwarts Legacy and the Mass Effect Trilogy.
This makes my head hurt. Yeah, too much. Nice production and critique. You know what made Star Trek great "in the day"? For the most part it was all the "little stories" spanning a multitude of scenarios we as humans could relate to. Then "something happened" . . . and every time you turned around there was some kind of Earth-Shall-Be-Destroyed super crisis movie with the entire fate of the (insert whatever here - The Federation - The Klingons - The Vulcans entire homeworld planets, repeatedly) at stake. From giant space whales just flying into earth space, to Veger, to . . . And here we are in WoW with the same schlock going on.
I’m pretty sure canonically most of the characters “cameod” would not have been the same ages as depicted in the comic. Nor some of them even alive. Aegwyn? At what point did she die after stopping sargeras from entering the world? Or is her ghost just a fully functioning being ?
Your videos keep me so entertained and teach me so much about the lore. I've played this game since it came out and in the 3 weeks that I've been watching I've learned more then I ever have so thank you. Please keep it up!🧡💚💛💜💛
Medan is like a generic main character in a shonen anime, but without a childhood female friend that is in love with him and also without a beach episode.
*Shamageadin* was bad enough, but the mighty morphin' power rangers sequence of him getting stuff like druidic magic poured in there as well, holy crap. Technically the demon also says the staff contains fel magic, so we can slap warlock in there as well. The only thing he's missing is having died offscreen, only to return in the Shadowlands as a death knight. (oh god...)

Most of the time it's just a really easy way to dramatically alter the setting and/or established rules of a universe that is becoming stale.
The multiple choice:
Or D... Maraad.
Me: laughing out loud at the rediculousness
Video: its Maraad.
Me: AAHHAHAHHAHA
Medan is like that one RPer in orgrimmar screaming he has two thunderfuries killed the lich king fought 1v1 with deathwing and beat his ass
ON THE NEXT EPISODE OF WARCRAFTBALLZ, CAN MEDAN CRAWL HIS WAY BACK INTO THE WARCRAFT CANNON?
I HOPE NOT
Of course Medan will be back, but he will be evil so that Sargillidan can beat him. (Illidan who fused with space-demon-Kami)
Hopefully Med'an is strong enough to take down Freez- I mean... Slyvanas
by canon, they cannot. There is a cannon ball in the way.
The one eyed JonTron killed me!
best thing about med'an is that page 404 joke
There is a reason Med'an was never introduced in WoW. Everyone absolutely hates him
@Aleksa Kurtovic true
Medan was cool wtf are you talking about.
Aleksa Kurtovic
Sylvannas is the ultimate B*tch Queen with the greatest plot armor ever created.
Honestly Sylvannas went from being a mysterious character, to just a pain the ass.
It doesn't help that there seems to be sort of cannon confirmation with him, since Jaina has the white hair that gained when Med'an's grandmother gave to Jaina the last of her powers
No shit Sherlock
It's like a fanfiction OC character that just destroys everything with his pinky and is apparently immortal too. How does some random boy suddenly go on a journey with wow's most important characters.
Getting a recap of the writing for these comics REALLY makes me think I have a shot at writing WAY better content for them, holy cow
You know you have yourself a bad character when the creators of the games doesn't want to be associated with it.
5:19 best part by far, I love how you did one of the heads with a single eye to reflect cho'gall own
good thing though we blasted N'zoth with a laser of doom as well. Our character is kinda cringe too.
But just you wait until its revealed that it was all Sylvanas' plan and we've been played all along and she will eradicate all evil in the universe

Also the likely hood of a draenei, orc, and human, three different species that are literally from 3 different planets (argus, dreanor, azeroth) being able to conceive a child is just absurd.
It’s following Star Wars and Star Trek logic, where races from completely different planets can somehow produce kids

I never knew I needed one eyed two headed Jontron Cho'gall in my life, quality video
This is like Dragonball, but even more ridiculous.
this is peak 2007 self-insert OC fanfic I love it!
What other 2007 self insert OC fanfics are there back in the early 2000s?
In all my years of Warcraft, this was one of the biggest lore backpedals I've seen unfold. Not even the Thrall backpedaling was this bad.
Got a chuckle out of the Jon Tron introduction, especially how you edited one of them to have one eye at 5:20
I remember... when this comic was about Broll Bearmantle, Valeera Sanguinar, and Lo'gosh (half of Varian) together, doing arenas under Reghar's control.
At least with Varian, the comics had a straight forward and simple story about a guy trying to reclaim his throne.

She has lines about "feeling human, and I haven't felt human in a long time."
But, nooooo, let's just trash the power of all those sentiments and make her half-draenei, instead, so she can have this super-duper awesome power child who is THREE races.
XDDD
The biggest change in fact was the orcs been evil.
If Thrall was born soon after arriving to the planet... he should be rougthlly the same age as Garona, and therefore been allready anadult (or a late teen) by the time the 1st War ended... and we know he was still a baby...
...so the easiest way to re-con all that was to say that the orcs started the 1st war short after the opening of the portal...but this makes the plothole: then how Garona is posible?
...and that's why they came out with the half-draeney thing
Don't make mewrong, i hate Me'Dan... but Garona's herotage... I see the reasoning
"PUT YOUR SEAL ON THAT ORDER!!!" **points decidedly**
**Seal is dumped on the order**
well, dunno what i expected lmao.
Varian takes things a bit too... SEALiously.
Legit laughed out loud at that
In the next xpac Medan married Sylvanas and they have weird half-undead babies.
Part-orc, part-draenei, part-human, part-high elf, part-banshee... part man, part bear, part pig...
Don't give Blizzard ideas.
im sorry but doesnt sylvanas have to literally use magic to keep her form from just rotting away? and that she noticed she smells like a cadaver no matter how much she bathes?
i know this is a joke comment... but i also know there are genuine sylvanas simps. like, bro, shes a walking corpse. there is no way youre getting it on even if she hypothetically agrees. just removing her clothes would probably overwhelm your nose with the stench of decay.
I wonder how op that part orc, part Draenei, part human and part high elf will be. But I thought Undead can’t reproduce sexually.
That 404 thing is pretty epic. Props to whoever came up with that.
I try to convince my friends that I like Medan just to trigger them :) I've found that doing this is the best use of Medan as a character
I fucking lost it at the seal dude. You gotta warn me lol. I was not ready. Ahh, thanks for being platinum, dude.
I hate how the lore got so twisted and warped.
A clean and airtight lore makes a game feel so much better.
It sucks cause every other characters were written amazing in those books.
I predict the expansion after Shadowlands will be an anti-cataclysm where the old world gets a complete revamp and recovers into a more mundane and intimate setting more similar to Vanilla again, but obviously with modern graphics.
@@Trazynn yeah pretty much. With us going to NEW realms were we are nothing and becoming their champion, yeah some characters are gonna prase us right of the start but as a whole we are a normal guy/a adventurer.
Man fuck Med'an but your stance is insanely stupid.
Every time I learn something about the lore outside the game(s) my very first thought is: Holy cow, did a 12 year old write this?
Every.
Time.
The real overpower is this editing skills, holy shit Platinum that was a delight to watch
Med‘an: IT‘S MORPHING TIME!
Cho‘gall: wait, why do I hear Power Metal...?
You should've added that Aegwynn, the most overpowered Guardian of Azeroth, had to sacrifice herself to empower Med'an.
(Cho'gall survives this)
Me'dan being on the page 404 is still possibly my favourite thing to have come out of WoW in a long time.
This Guy seems like my character from pandaria onwards. Doing everything on his own, from colecting hiena shit to killing gods, saving the lives of everyone everywhere And being the chosen one of at least 11 different profecies
One thing that makes it even worse: in order to have proper adversary for Med'an they also made Cho'gall op af as well.
I lost it at the Power Ranger theme.
3:56 ...the most epic description of one auto attack and one cast of lightning bolt.
You forgot to include the bit where when Medivh’s kid picked up Ateish all the other casters in his party had their power levels increase a little bit too. :P. This was by far your funniest video yet for so many reasons, I cannot begin to pinpoint them all.
Valeera: I am gonna suck-
Me: *Instant drop pants*
Valeera: ... Your life essence...

Valeera: ...
Me: I mean... We might still be able to find a way this could work for both of us...
Valeera: Just go...
Me: That's fair.
Sad
There's this phrase i heard that goes "the male equivalent of a Mary Sue is the protagonist". I've never seen a story that exemplifies this more than Medan's
10:12 The best part begins
I liked that Jania is referred to as the Other Mage Power Ranger instead of the Arch Mage Power Ranger.
And we got revived MUCH faster than anybody if we died. We didn't go to any afterlife either, we just went back to Azeroth in an instant.
This was a warning for how bonkers the lore was going to be for the past three expansions
Med'an is basically a canonical player character and no one cared for the competition
I dressed as Med’an for Halloween when I was a kid lmfao I had no idea he was hated so badly. I am finding this extra funny.
Please keep it up!🧡💚💛💜💛
Isn't this an insert for Chris Metzen's kid or something?
Lol that's what I thought
The best fate for a Mary Sue is isolation from everything.
opens video with mary sue "ah the dark lady calls"
I am shocked that this amateur fanfiction writer managed to find such a good artist to illustrate his work.
Medan is like a generic main character in a shonen anime, but without a childhood female friend that is in love with him and also without a beach episode.
And also missing is a rival character who might turn evil and a cast of forgettable fan favorites.
You make the entire lore and WOW much more interesting to know! Blizz should hand over this product to you.
5:20 that's the greatest edit I've ever seen.
(oh god...)
Shamageadin? What in the world is that?
Basically one punch man without the boredom. 😂
I really think like, it seems that lazer beams just herald the point when the people writing the comic want the fight to be over or something dealt with.
''Just shoot another beam at it''
I love how Jaina is just the "Other Mage" in the Warcraft Power Rangers! XD
Is Broll morphed into the White Ranger, is he the Other Druid Power Ranger?
Alright the 404 index joke is actually gold. I am glad someone snuck that in there
5:21 Jon’Tron is the best ogre magi ever made.
I never thought I would see an Orge Nazi.
So, Medan is basically the character that I would make if I owned my own private server and didn't want to pick just one class. Cool.
Isn’t multi classing sort of a thing in Dungeons and Dragons?
He's power is an example of the greatest power in all of literature: the plot armor.
Enough laser beams to power azeroth out of the middle ages
Note: Med'an died on the way back to his home planet.
Was his home planet Draenor or Argus?
Writer 1:
- Shall we make Med'an more like a Shaman or we go with arcane and Mage, or perhaps a powerful priest/paladin?
Writer 2:
- Yes.
oh boy there are some gold quality memes here
