I don't care how light or good-looking the Alfa is.....the bottom line is that it's Italian and it's going to breakdown rather quickly after you've purchased it. The Mazda, on the other hand, is pure driving excitement without the worry of needing a tow-truck to get home.

My 2.0 Sport Nav is by far the best car I've driven/owned. The Fiesta and Focus ST's were brilliant but this is just EPIC! I know it's perceived as a hairdressers/girls motor but I don't give a monkeys. Bring on the salon! 😂😎🤘🎸

This is specially true for japanese models, my father has a Toyota Hilux from the 89 and the absolute beauty of a machine has never had a failure. Better than modern cars.
I've had an ALFA Spider (1971) many years ago, and I deeply lament having sold it. My MX-5 though is the spiritual cousin of the ALFA I had. It doesn't have the flair and character of my old ALFA, but it's still an incredible car that's more than up to the task. And I won't be getting rid of this one.
My favourite car that I have ever driven. Every journey put a smile on your face, always engaging, forever fun. Will miss my MX5. Rust issues got the better of it.
No contest, the MX5 with the smaller 1.5L engine, in Sports trim, its almost perfection on wheels. IT has nothing to do with outright speed, just wind in your hair, at safe speeds, with that manufactured in heaven gearchange. If truth was told, a certain Leonardo Di Vinci. was responsible for the design of that gear change, way back at the birth of the Italian renaissance. Only the mind of a true genius could have devised such a gear change, its not in the top five greatest gear changes, IT IS the finest gear change known to man
Love the Miata! I dig the whole philosophy of why it exists. And this version is a stunning design (IMO) compared to the previous models (not that they were bad, just not quite as beautiful.)
This version is the ugliest one. I looks like they just shaped random parts from different cars on. All the previous miatas have a timeless and classic look to them. It's too generic.

Mazda, keeping the Lotus Elan dream alive, years after Lotus stopped building them. Oh and they don't have the problems the UK cars had. It just needs British Racing Green.

Where as a true car enthusiast buys a car based on what it does for him or her, not on what others think of them in that vehicle. If you like more HP or trucks or bikes fine, but some people would not even try it due to others opinions. Ego.
He's saying some people might see it as a cheap car and not macho enough but like others said, it's quite brilliant and fun to drive. I just bought a 21' soft top club and I put 3000 miles on it before my first payment was due and loved every minute of it.

I buy car based on how they make me feel. So I almost always buy Alfas, Saab turbos, and Porsches. My current project Saab 9-5 Aero has been tweaked a little, but looks stock. And the same tit heads who call the MX5 a hairdresser car, call my Saab a grandpa car, then they scream in terror when I floor it and leave whatever wannabe in his WRX/Golf R/GM or Ford V8 or whatever tried to race it.
The adults who are willing to call a car feminine or "hairdresser" have internal problems of their own and are very insecure which is why they would rather diss other cars instead of just saying hey nice ride and going off through curves with a smile

I didn't even know Top Gear reviewed the ND MX-5! The MX-5 truly is a masterpiece. I am more of a Toyota 86 man, but I respect the MX-5 A LOT. ❤
I like both. If I want a roof, 86. If not, mx-5. Both are excellent to drive.

I went from a BMW M2 to my ND Miata and I have no regrets, although the M2 was also brilliant

Some poor guy's 4C hit a pothole and destroyed the carbon fiber chassis... It took $20k to fix it and it's a salvage title now lol

Just got mine a few weeks ago to replace my totaled NA. I miss the ragtop and pop up headlights, but the ND is strictly better in every sense.

I love flooring my NA around the Twisties of Coromandel , New Zealand. Except the 100kph roads are shite, but the views are great
