Dunno about Jay's actual feel about hardened old tires. But personnally, I bought a 20 y.o. sports car with only 27k KM on it. A garage queen. Did'nt think twice about their age untill a week later when showing it to a friend at a good pace. Then, a big crash in front of us at 140 kmh. Big braking, a miraculous hit avoidance streer and stop. Both panting in fear. Had fresh, modern rubber installed 2 days after. Man, what a difference ! Will never, ever do that mistake again !
The F50 was my infatuation as a child, I had numerous posters and car models. Her gorgeous lines were love at first sight, and catapulted me off into the world of being an auto enthusiast.

@@arcticwolf8150 You know what they say about beauty, yes? I think Chris Harris did a video some years back, comparing the F40 to the F50 neck-to-neck with a driving session as well, and that really illustrated the different design languages and the corporate background in which the two cars were "conceived". Well worth a watch.
I have to say, it took me a long time to like the way this car looks, because I've always been such a super fan of the boxy look of the f40, but this car has definitely become one of my favorites now, and it sounds absolutely amazing.
The presence, the rarity, the race heritage. I would have a heart attack if I saw one in person. One of those cars if I owned, I would just sit on a lawn chair in the garage and just stare at it all weekend long.

In 1987 the Ferrari F-40 was the last car that Enzo personally had a hand in its production before he passed. That’s why the F-50 didn’t have much more of a world press release than the F-40 by 1995.
@@wymcarstuff2305 That and also the F40 was slightly faster in a straight line over 60 mph, being lighter, less draggy and having more torque (and more than the 478HP Ferrari advertised it seems). The original F1 actually was worse than both Ferraris while cornering and braking, but the acceleration was out of this world, that narrow slippery body made all the difference, it is not all about the power. Wonderful machines all of them.
@@iulian2548 you're absolutely right. I'm a 90s baby so these were the cars that I saw in magazines and I still look at them in awe today. I still haven't seen an F1 in person yet.

Jay, about the fact the F50 didn't get the same reaction as the F40, I remember when it came out people were kinda underwhelmed, for starters it had more power than the F40, but it wasn't any faster. Also the looks are not to most peoples taste. Early tests also mentioned the ride beeing harsh because the engine was directly connected to the tub.
@@Brodozer39 You can't really go wrong with either, I'm just saying what I observed back in the day when it came out. I think things are different now, the F50 is more appreciated for what it is.
The F50 was never as popular as the F40, because it didn't have a nemesis. The F40 and the 959 were going head to head for 200mph. Those 2 cars were on every cover and tv show. That's also why Enzo built 1500 because Porsche was supposed make a 1000, they didn't pass safety regulations for the us and Japanese market. That's why we have the 25 year import rule Canapa, Gates, Lauren and other collectors paid for years to lobby congress to make them legal. Then there's the F50 whose competition was the crystler diablo that was old news. the xj220 for the same price that out performed it 3 years earlier. Then you had 4 twin turbo Japanese cars that would smoke it off the line for a 50k sticker and with 20-30k of tuning would destroy the F50.

@@marcryvon ahh man that's frightening to read. mind if I inquire what the sports car was (or is)?

I wonder the same thing...
Thanks Jay, for taking our minds off serious things.
Driving cool cars isn't a matter of life and death... It's much more important than that. 😂
The F50 was my infatuation as a child, I had numerous posters and car models. Her gorgeous lines were love at first sight, and catapulted me off into the world of being an auto enthusiast.
I love that David walked out in a denim shirt...so funny!!
Mr. Leno's mind is sharp as a tack with the jokes he makes so quickly. I really enjoyed this video for both the history lesson and Leno's comic wit!!! Thank you!
Facts jay is a national treasure
These two are a perfect example of friends. Each are so different, and collect differently. Each appreciate each other. It's cool to watch...
I like that Mr. Lee has his Leno uniform on :)
Always fun to see Lee back, and finally a decent episode instead of all the constant marketing and branding stuff. Hopefully we will be seeing more of these type of uploads :)
It is always such a great video when David Lee stops in. So easy to tell these guys are real friends and that intro was amazing!
Is it me, or does Jay seem to not only know amazing cars, but equally amazing people.
These are the nicest, most humble down to earth millionaires on earth.
We have lost a certain class of gentleman in this country that used to be in plenty. I remember a time when if a man wasnt as nice, and as well spoken, and as honest down to earth as these guys. He was an outcast or weirdo.
Our country used to be awesome when it was full of men like these 2.
Don’t think there’s ever been many of these people. These are the .0000001 %
Back in the 1990’s I remember thinking the F40 was the cooler car. Now in the 2020’s, I’m definitely going choosing the F50….especially in that gorgeous yellow. The F50 is so clean.
Thank you David for sharing your collection with us! I love the F50. There is just not a lot of content out there because they are so rare and valuable. Really enjoyed this “in motion” and not just parked on a lawn.
they WILL be parked on a lawn if people keep voting the Dems in office!!! Cash f Clunkers 2 and 3 are in the works and these gross pollutors will have the engines "put beyond use" ...DVD!!!!DVD!!!!DVD!!!! Dont vote Dem !!!!!!!
I did say on David Lee s page, it would be nice to see the yellow F50 be driven by Jay, thx for making it happen! Looking forward to this one
David Lee is back! I love it when he comes on, and it always give Jay a chance to appreciate Ferrari's; considering his own frustrations with the hoops Ferrari makes people jump through to own them.
Yeah, I noticed that too. Jay lets David jump through the hoops, and Jay just drives his cars. lol
I love hearing these 2 dudes talk about their cars. Neither one of them are like mine is better then yours. They are both just so humble.
Jay’s friendship with David covers up the lack of Ferrari in his garage. Always special having David on the channel. The Jean jacket was a cool touch. 😂
"Women are like cars: we all want a Ferrari, sometimes want a pickup truck, and end up with a station wagon." Tim Allen
But the station wagon is a rs6
But the station wagon is a Grand Cherokee TrackHawk
😂 well not that bad.. but i get it
Try to straddle the best of both worlds. It's hard to live with a Ferrari everyday
Don't forget there's always junk in the trunk...and the junk will just keep growing and growing....ugh 😂
Always like to see Mr. Lee as a guest. Upbeat and knowledgeable. He always seems as happy as if he'd won his cars in the lottery. But of course he is smart and worked smart to get to be able to afford them.
Oh god well noticed.
David's father started the lucrative jewelry business. Pure luck my friend.
@@wanderingdoc5075 not really. All success comes with a small amount of luck. He’s still pretty astute though.

Hands down my favorite Ferrari. Gorgeous car.And David Lee sounds like a really cool guy. I am jealous. You can hear that V-12 start to sing at higher rpms
The F50 grew on me so much. Now I even prefer it over the F40, which is still one of my favorites.
I could not agree more!
The F50 is one of the most beautiful Ferrari's ever made
Yeah it’s tasty looking I can’t believe Jeremy Clarkson said they are ugly
the car that pushed me in studying mechanical engineering

@@arcticwolf8150 You know what they say about beauty, yes? I think Chris Harris did a video some years back, comparing the F40 to the F50 neck-to-neck with a driving session as well, and that really illustrated the different design languages and the corporate background in which the two cars were "conceived". Well worth a watch.
By Far my favorite Ferrari. Thanks for sharing.
I love when David is on. He makes it so fun! Great shirt on this episode and when Jay gave him socks, hilarious hahahaha
Not my favorite car, but one of my favorite clips. I love this guy's enthusiasm and the matching denim is priceless.
There’s a shop down the street where I live in Miami. It’s got an F40 and F50
Cars are meant to be driven and trailer queens are lame! I've got the upmost respect for Jay and David because they actually get out and enjoy their cars.

@@BZentinela wow. Cynical much?
When David walked out in the Leno shirt i nearly fell off my chair, hilarious.
In 1987 the Ferrari F-40 was the last car that Enzo personally had a hand in its production before he passed. That’s why the F-50 didn’t have much more of a world press release than the F-40 by 1995.
That and because the Mclaren f1 was released. The F1 was so ahead of its time.
Very important point
Enzo was a very old and sick man in 1987. The car is from Ing. Nicola Materazzi who did most of the work
It was the 1995 Christmas...my uncle's family were visiting from Italy, my uncle was a truck driver. They give me this bag, and inside was a plain box with gray and black checker pattern. I didn't even care about it. My uncle was like 'are you sure you don't wanna check it out?' It was the Ferrari F50 inside the checker box, the BBurago toy. I will never forget the feeling. I still have the car.

Me Lee is so funny n fun always has something with J going on.
Sox,shirts n shoes!!!
Another Gr8 video Ty guys!!
The dream of owning a Ferrari is real and is still alive. The F50 somehow is the ultimate representation of that dream for me personally being born in the mid 80s. What those cars can do to a person never ceases to amaze and fascinate me. Epic
The F50 finally!!! The only mid engined v12 6 speed manual production car Ferrari ever produced.
Ferrari F50 is a really underrated Ferrari, it is everything we expect out of one, only the Media hated it and formed that notoriety for it because it was slightly slower than F40
Not price wise
I think it is not as attractive as the other flagship Ferraris, that might have something to do with it.

I was 11 years old in 1996, living in Portland Oregon when one day my dad said he had a “surprise” for me...a 15 minute car ride and we were pulling into the Ron Tonkin Gran Turismo Ferrari dealership...at the time my 2 favorite cars were the McLaren F1 and the F50...I’ll never forget the moment I walked into that dealership and saw a brand new F50 sitting on the showroom floor...What a beautiful car
They're like apprentice and master for extreme car collecting. You can tell Lee has a genuine respect for Leno.
Funny I had a F50 toy as kid that I loved.. never really translated into a adult love for Ferraris in general, but somehow I am still most attracted to the F50 out of all Ferraris. The love for Porsche 959 stuck way more with me
When Jay said the f40 was first to hit 200mph, I thought the 959 was first. Maybe he didn't consider 959 a 'production' car.
@@loomspace I think it was something like Ferrari claimed it did 200 but no one ever was able to reproduce that number - might have been the classic Italian exaggeration
@@loomspace I thought the 959 topped out at 195 mph no?
@@Yaro2 Verging into 959 nerd territory here, but the factory number for the 959K was 197mph, with verified testing numbers 200mph+, and the 959S factory number at 211mph.
@@loomspace I know the 959S got to 210 mph, but that was released after the f40 I believe.
I remember hearing that the F40 got to 201 mph but there was some speculation that it was just italian exaggeration and it actually topped at 199 mph. However I don’t know about the normal 959 reaching 200mph so I will have to do some research on that, but to be honest the Ferrari fanboy in me just wants to believe the F40 was the first car to get to 200MPH haha.

I love the Giallo Modena colour on all Ferraris since I was a kid. I still remember a yellow F355 F1 I saw parked when I was a teenager and it was gorgeous.
Yes, it's Giallo, Dave managed to call it Grigio Modena
What country are you in
@@HooyahPeacock from Spain. And yes, Ferraris were not that common around here on the late 90's as they are today.
I remember that particular F355 because it was one of the very first I could see closely when it was parked, and also the first one I watched in that colour.
Before that one I just remember an F40 when I was a kid on a local exhibition. No need to tell the F40 was my dream car since I was a child, and was followed by the F50 on the Michael Schumacher F1 era.

F40-F50 …. I was one of those kids/teenagers who subscribed and collected MotorTrend, Road & Track mags RELIGIOUSLY!! I knew specs of most performance cars by heart, including engine displacement, tire size and everything else SUPERCAR!! Anyways, between the F40 and F50, I fell in love with the F50 at first sighting!!! I understand Ferraris’ heritage, the F40 getting Enzo’s final seal of approval, AND YES THE F40 LOOKS EXACTLY / PERFECTLY FERRARI , AND PROBABLY OUT PERFORMS THE F50 TOO, BUT THE F50 was the PERFECT DESIGN!! Jays so funny. He literally changed the subject and cut David off multiple times mid sentence. Idk if he’s just getting old or what but it’s hilarious when he does that. The F1 team was racing with Good Years tyres in 94, so they had the partnership. That's why they developed the tyres for the F50.

Time to start selling Jay Leno's Garage denim shirts, Jay.
To me the F50 is the pinnacle. I would take one over a F40 in a heartbeat!
Only someone cockeyed would not like the looks, idk who you're talking about but definitely not most people
@@Brodozer39 You can't really go wrong with either, I'm just saying what I observed back in the day when it came out. I think things are different now, the F50 is more appreciated for what it is.
The F40 had significantly more torque and was lighter. Had more of a mid range punch with the turbo. The F50 only comes alive in the higher revs
Personally, I love how mechanical the F50 sounds!
This is my favorite Ferrari ever made. It's definitely the prettiest one of them all, and the screaming sound that it makes is vastly superior.
F40 looks better
Nice episode Jay. You guys crack me up too.... thanks for sharing the F50 dream.
