Did 128,000 miles in mine without a single breakdown. Thrashed it every inch of the way too. 308 QV's are the most reliable mid-engined Italian sports car made in my opinion. Got 2 other friends with 100k + miles 308's too, one is a 78 carb car, again both cars are trouble free. The ones that sit around in garages are the ones with problems. 308's were meant to be used and driven hard, the harder the better. Cheaper parts than most modern everyday cars, easy on fuel and cheap to insure as a classic. I also did 112,000 miles totally trouble free in a 550 Maranello, again rev limited it virtually every time I drove it. Another well built car.

The fellow said he would like to drive a 512 Boxer and a Testarossa, I just looked it up, the later year Boxers had the same flat 12 as the Testarossa, pretty cool. That is why the back part of the Testarossa is so wide and has the cheese graters. The flat 12 is a wide engine, wider than a Subie flat 4 &6 cylinder and Porsche's flat 6's. The 512 designers knew how to make the car look less extreme.
These videos are just so awesome. I just watched the 35l Pantera just like I had when I was a kid. Now this ,84 308 . I had a yellow one back in the late 80,s. Jay is right about 100,000 being just a shitload of miles for a Ferrari. After 15,000 you have to have them completely rebuilt with new timing components or run the chance of them blowing up going down the road. I had that done twice before I sold it and got the Red 88 Testerosa. Man I loved that car for sure. Even thou I'm 6.3 and size 15 shoe. Wich is just hard as Hell not to hit all three pedals at once. Now I drive a Ford F150. Oh well. Still have the memories. My old back can't handle them sport cars any more. I do like the Imperial convertible that Jay has.
What happened to the driver door between the time you talk around the car in the garage (at 17:31) and when you're driving it ? at (24:17) There is a big dent on the driver side door....
Totally agree - very passionate about his car, knows his stuff and the story about wanting that very same car when he was a youngster is pretty amazing.. Strange how Jay seems to not be that keen on him either though 😕
Beautiful 308. A perfect example. My dad owns an 1980 308 GTSi targa and its an awesome car, red with tan interior. My dad bought it in the 80's before my parents got married. Ive seen a picture of my dad next to his 308 in the 80's, with his mustache and a Detroit lions hat on with his deck shoes, polo and short shorts, looked just like Magnum P.I.
I just read an article about this guy getting arrested, so I had to watch this old video with Leno. He seems to be a lousy liar to me. When he said 308s had different horsepower depending on what guy put them together at the factory, I immediately thought he was full of crap. He said other things that reeked of BS too. Leno looks skeptical with his arms folded and his questioning attitude. I know it’s easy to say now, given that he’s been arrested, but I wouldn’t have let him near any of my cars after watching this video. Even Leno knows that some of the things he said were not true. I’m surprised that he was so successful for so many years. A lot of people are kicking themselves for getting conned by this guy, now that the truth is out.
For some reason I've heard Ferrari pages in facebook are all cocky people, I find 308 GTBs and I find the nicest and most respectful persons. They all get along like family. Starting to love these cars.
2 Million Subs When your channel reached a million subs you said that if we liked the burnout video you posted then - then we we love what you do when you reach two million subs. Hope to see that before you reach three million..
This was HIS car that he wanted when young and broke. It will never be a big dollar Ferrari simply because it's white and has crash bumpers. But it is HIS. And he wants it exactly as it came from the factory in appearance. I'm that way about my Porsches (and have been for 46 years). I applaud him for his diligence towards originality. Yeah, he make like embellish things a bit. Give the guy some slack.
That was really sooo nice of Jay to give him that double plug. I’m sure that gave him a really nice uptick in traffic with his business. Gotta love Jay; always such a class act.
Jerry Johnson II Cool story, great car. I think Magnum's was 1981 GTS. I am not sure the difference 308 Berlinetta and Targa. Always liked this style and shape. The car just looks fast.
Jay, love your "JAY LENO'S GARAGE"! You are my fav., Stand Up Comedian, Talk Show Host, and Gear Head! Don't stop, your the greatest! Thank you for sharing all your beautiful cars with all your viewers! I'm a gear head likewise, my fav. car since I was a kid (I'm 71 now) was the FORD GT and still is. Me dads best friend had a 308 gts. Built a garage just for it. He took me for a short ride on a Sunday afternoon when I was 16 years old. 1999 was the year. I realize now it wasn't near as fast as I thought it was at that age. But it was super fun and attracted tons of attention wherever we went. Cool video.
Red became a cliched color! It looked good when Magnum PI drove it but it got played out! A White Ferrari is classic looking! I like it! And it matches Jays White Hair too as a bonus!
This is a great car story, and the very best guest Jay ever had - he articulates why we all love cars so much, and why they relax us so much, even when sometimes they take up all our money and all our spare time.
I can really relate to the comment about 4th gear. That sweet spot from 45 to 100+, no need to shift or brake. I do it in an older 911, but weight and power very similar. Love the analog cars that you can responsibly use all the power.
Euro models were quoted at 240 bhp and US models 230. 10 bhp shouldn't have made much difference in performance but Euro cars were in fact a lot quicker. Car and driver, 1983 road test (GTS) 0-60- 7.4 secs 0-100- 18.5 max - 144 mph Road and track, 1983 road test (GTB) 0-60- 6.8 secs 0-100- 18.2 max- 142 mph Motor, 1983 road test (British rhd GTB) 0-60- 5.7 secs 0-100- 14.3 max- 157 mph Performance car, 1985 test (British rhd GTS) 0-60- 6.0 secs 0-100- 15.4 max- 150 mph The Motor GTB was the quickest standard 308 ever tested by a magazine.

I do like the Imperial convertible that Jay has.
something about those cars just makes me happy, damn i love em.
For me its mainly the sharp, raw Angels, flat bodies and rather simple inside.
What happened to the driver door between the time you talk around the car in the garage (at 17:31) and when you're driving it ? at (24:17)
There is a big dent on the driver side door....
good eye
*Or they shopped it out in the still.*
It's there @00:36 as well, maybe the lighting made it hard to see in white from straight on
Yeah, it's there at 0:36
It’s there the whole time. Looks like a parking lot door ding.
Cant believe all the hate the owner is getting. I really like him
Couldn’t agree more. 👌Trolls! 👎
MrWeeRhys yea what’s with the hate? Live and let live
Agree.
Stories make it! Otherwise just read the specs.
Totally agree - very passionate about his car, knows his stuff and the story about wanting that very same car when he was a youngster is pretty amazing.. Strange how Jay seems to not be that keen on him either though 😕
That’s a beautiful car…. I am truly impressed. A purist.
One of the best looking Ferrari's, still looking amazing today.
Very nice show. Two guys that show their passion on their sleeves. Love the 80's cars and especially the Ferraris.
For some reason I've heard Ferrari pages in facebook are all cocky people, I find 308 GTBs and I find the nicest and most respectful persons. They all get along like family. Starting to love these cars.
imho this is the best jay lenos garage episode EVER. its two guys going on about their favorite cars you can sense the pride in their voice.
2 Million Subs
When your channel reached a million subs you said that if we liked the burnout video you posted then - then we we love what you do when you reach two million subs. Hope to see that before you reach three million..
Cool story dude, I appreciate you saving the 308. Beautiful machine.
17:15 "Sometimes i watch a girl stuck inside and I just watch her panic" Jay: "........right can we take the car for a ride?"
Yeah I'm surprised that wasn't edited out... Also the most ugly Ferrari I've ever seen frankly
LOL

Are you crazy? This is beautiful. And don't call me Frankly.
@@cptnoremac fair enough
🤔
This isn't my favorite episode, but it is way up there in the top 10 or so. The conversation was excellent and the information too.
This is the most beautiful car ever to me. Not the best, not by far. I would not want to own it ever, but I cannot stop looking at a Ferrari 308.
Plenty more creepy Americans than this guy, that's for sure.
He's a true petrolhead. I love this guy....but not like that/
The Miles Davis story was all b.s.
Now he's old, broke and in prison.
Love Jay's old guy driving style exiting the garage, shuffling the wheel with his head tilted back and mouth open
I drove a carbed 512. Greatest car I've ever driven; and I've driven a lot of cool cars.
That was really sooo nice of Jay to give him that double plug. I’m sure that gave him a really nice uptick in traffic with his business.
Gotta love Jay; always such a class act.
Magnum PI. Very Cool. I think the rebot sucks thou. The owner is really Cool an has a great story about how he got the car.
Take it on its own. It's really not a bad show. Where they fuked up is attaching the magnum pi name to it. #shamefull #discrace
Magnum drove a GTS (targa top)
Jerry Johnson II Cool story, great car. I think Magnum's was 1981 GTS. I am not sure the difference 308 Berlinetta and Targa. Always liked this style and shape. The car just looks fast.
You're right. The re-boot is garbage. Like remaking Bullitt with a hybrid.
@@Ronbo710 there's a Magnum pi reboot?
My Mom has one of these when I was a kid. She loved it so much.
...or somebody right.
@@chrisfi3d 🤣
Thanks Jay, It is good to see a stock original car, not a 1000 HP fire breathing monster that some shop made for a million dollars.
Can't afford one but I can still dream! And, by the way love your 2017 striped black GT! Have a wonderful day Jay, I will continue to watch your TH-cam channel, since I have subscribed! Catch you next time!
Cool video.
Watching two middle aged men trying to lower themselves into the car was the best bit for me.
Lol
ya I heard a grunt in sterio.
Middle-aged if Jay lives to 138YO
Hell Jay is almost 70. Hard to believe.
I'm taller than both of these guys, and I'm trying to imagine how I would drive one of these.
The 308 was the first Ferrari I fell in love with back in the day. Great episode Jay! 👍
I'm so over red.
Never liked Red.
This white GTB is absolutely gorgeous!!!!
*It really is, a breath of fresh air.*
Red became a cliched color! It looked good when Magnum PI drove it but it got played out! A White Ferrari is classic looking! I like it!
And it matches Jays White Hair too as a bonus!
Why not Toyota Metallic Beige. That would be a nice refin on this car.
Never seen Jay so quiet. This dude can talk. Love his passion.
That's all he was good at. Now he's in prison.
nothing is more infectious and interesting than genuine passion. this guy is great. and the car looks amazing in white
Donnie is a very impressive Ferrari technician. Just ask him, he'll tell you.
you were great in Casino
Always wanted Magnums 308 GTS so this is wonderful. Back in the 90s I looked into these and found them for about $35k. Wanted one so bad.
The 308 platform was the first Ferrari exposure I ever experienced as a kid so this has a soft spot in my heart and my absolute favorite Ferrari.
Hell ya. It's a great car. Iconic 80s look
I dream of this car
I have done a bit of metal work and restoration on a rough Ferrari 308. It's quite interesting to see how the bodies are built.
Really awesome to see someone making a living out of their hobby. That is what I am aspiring to do :)
Man what you can't do w time or money on your side. beautiful car nice backstory.
i always thought Ferrari 308's had to be red or yellow but after looking at this white one...pretty sweet.
Terrific. Love that White Ferrari. So much work and passion.
I love this model. Something about the big blocky bumpers and sharp angles. It's very 80s and more elegant than other examples from that era.
Euro models were quoted at 240 bhp and US models 230. 10 bhp shouldn't have made much difference in performance but Euro cars were in fact a lot quicker.
