For your information, the personality and the name 'Kryten' as a devoted servant in Red Dwarf is loosely based on the key character of the servant 'Crichton' in the movie 'The Admirable Crichton' (1957) played by Kenneth More!
Neighbours is still running (last episode aired 3 days ago) and is mostly made for the UK market, as it's always been more popular here, but the 80s and early 90s was it's heyday
Yeah, they did make Holly's face a lot clearer in series 2. Kryten makes a permanent come back in series 3, although played by a different actor. My favourite parts in this episode are the fake soap opera 'Androids' at the beginning, which is a parody of Neighbours, and I also love Kryten's 'rebelling' scene!😄😄😄
@@MeganRuth This does inform you of the rest of the show, but the character of Kryten does appear again, and from then on, from series 3 but with a different actor. The new actor takes a few episodes to get into his stride as the Kryten that Red Dwarf fans know.
This Kryten is also the voice of Talkie Toaster. The next Kryten you see will be played by someone else and the casting is genius. He completes the definitive line-up.
When they came to do the third series, David Ross (who plays him here) was not available, so they had to recast - hence Robert Llewellyn getting the gig. Both incarnations are great. Enjoy series 2. It's got some great episodes.
Actually, the actor for Holly, Norman Lovett pushed for Holly's face to be more visible. In fact Holly was never meant to have a face in season 1 and was only meant to be a voice, but Lovett pushed to have his face in the show. Personally i think Holly would have been a far lesser character without the visual expressions from the actor. I think they made the right choice.
Series 2 is much better than series 1. (Episode 5 is very special indeed.) But - you've probably already been told this - this show gets REALLY good in series 3 - The new Kryten joins the regular cast, completing the team of 4, and it transforms into like a whole new show, one that's a lot slicker, faster-paced, and way better looking with great production design. With a brand new title sequence! So if you can enjoy these first two series, you'll love the 'golden' years, which is series 3-6 :-)
Good evening, Megan. I love ❤️ your beautiful reactions towards other British comedies, even this one, too! Love Red Dwarf the best TV comedy ever made! 🤣
This was supposed to be the *last* episode of the series, we don't see him again until the next one. Prime example of some BBC executive ignoring continuity; must put the best episode first! It's not even the only time they do it. The Nova 5's mission was to trigger various supernovas at particular times, so that their light would reach Earth at the same time, to spell out 'Coca-Cola' across the sky. The ship crashed after Kryten washed the computer. If I remember the timeline correctly, they didn't have mechanoids like Kryten when Lister went into stasis? But Divadroid *did* have other products in the meantime... not a talking *toaster* but a talking *something...*
This episode is a personal favourite of mine, BTW you might want to check the spelling of the word Kryten is the description, before the comment bitches blow it out of all proportion. Have a great weekend buddy...x
No, not for me Megan, have you tried "would i lie to you" especially anything with bob mortimer or "did Kevin Bridges accidentally buy a horse" BUT definitely not for me red dwarf
"they're all dead." "my god! i was only away two minutes!"
[applause]
Possibly my fav line in all of red dwarf

An excellent film with Kenneth Moore at his best. Well worth a watch.
I always thought his name was an homage to the sci-fi author Michael Crichton.
@@bluesrocker91 If you’d seen the movie, it would be obvious that the name was from the butler rather than from a thriller writer .
For your information the film the Admirable Crichton was based upon the book by JM Barrie who also wrote Peter Pan.
1:20 - actually the opposite. The pixelation over Holly’s face in S1 was a video effect that they decided to bin for S2.
Ahh ok!
Androids was a take on an Australian Soap called Neighbours. Neighbours was very popular in the UK in the 1980's.
Ah, interesting!

Series 2 is one of my favourites. Fan-smegging-tastic!

😂 yes both are brilliant moments!
This doesn't inform the rest of the show, but according to the books, yes- Kryten Did kill the crew, by cleaning the computer with soapy water!
Oh no! 😅

'...Kryten. Did you clean the back-ups?'
'Only thanks I need is knowing you appreciate a job well done.'
it is brought up in season 7. the only time its explicitly said
This Kryten is also the voice of Talkie Toaster.
The next Kryten you see will be played by someone else and the casting is genius. He completes the definitive line-up.
Interesting! I'm looking forward to see how the next actor portrays him! :)
The series 1 Talkie Toaster was voiced by John Lenahan. David Ross (here playing Kryten) will take over when Toaster returns.

Some classic lines in this series.
I remember watching this on PBS as a kid. They hadn't been forced to take out the "Mc" out of "Chicken McNugget" by the lawsuits at that time.

Notice how the Mac has been subtly blanked out of Chicken ..... Nugget. 😁 I've been watching this show a loooooong time.
Red Dwarf is one of my all-time fave comedies. And Kryton my fave character. Just brilliant! 😊
LOVE some Red Dwarf myself :)
I don't know if this is the right time, but did I mention that my mate Ace here is incredibly-credibly brave?
They revisit the Ace thing later on. And it's epic :D
great stuff!
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊

Thanks Falcom! 😊

Thanks for the info! aha that's a hilarious mission! And a funny way to die, too 😂
The message was 'Coke Adds Life'. Ironic given they'd destroyed countless solar systems to make it.
Its not the best episode though, Thanks for the memory, is the best episode of season 2
Red Dwarf is a great comedy, and it keeps getting better. Kryten eventually becomes a regular and very funny.
And a bit more....erm.....Canadian (sort of!)
"Dogs Milk"...so funny.
series 2 they start to really get into their stride....series 3 I think is many peoples favourite though
they got a budget
I suppose you've never seen the film The Wild One.
😊😊😊😊😊 I ike Red Dwarf ,it's so unpredictable, and random and has some great dialogue ❤❤.
This episode is a personal favourite of mine, BTW you might want to check the spelling of the word Kryten is the description, before the comment bitches blow it out of all proportion. Have a great weekend buddy...x
QUEEG is coming! 😎
Queeg is eternal!
What are you on in this episode, and can I get some 😂
No, not for me Megan, have you tried "would i lie to you" especially anything with bob mortimer or "did Kevin Bridges accidentally buy a horse" BUT definitely not for me red dwarf
