    Chris Barrie's monologue at the end is great, you can really hear Rimmer's despair & anguish over his mistake; the funny thing is it can be like that with even some mistakes, they can haunt you years, decades after everyone else will have forgotten them (if they noticed in the first place).

    Series 1 was a total gem of a show at the time and still is kow. You had to be there at the time to truly experience it. As it was on bbc2, it was like show that was undiscovered by the folks who watched bbc2 and itv..it was kinda secret to those who watched it. A true cult grew up round it too. Non of my family understood it, but I loved every bloody minute. And still do now.

    Reading dead people's diaries is quite normal, e.g. Pepys. Dead people who have come back to life is not something that current rules handle.

    Morrissey agrees with you Meg, about people reading other peoples diaries.
    Someone broke into his room just to see, just to see what he had written about them.
    And he was so very sickened.

    Another great episode, loved the whole Gazpacho soup incident! Can't wait for series 2 now! Series 1 focused more on the characters themselves rather than being too sci-fi but Red Dwarf becomes a lot more Star Trek-like in later series!😄😄😄

    If you notice, all the signs on the ship have got a second word below them e.g. in the cinema scene, the word 'cinema' has the word kinejo below it - which is the translation for cinema in Esperanto - a completely made up language.

    In victoriana times to take a photo you would have to stay extremely still so I guess it was probably the best way to get a good photo 😂

    The Victorian death photos are creepy as hell, but the ones featuring dead children are the absolute worst and so sad.

    It's ok to read someone's diary if they're dead..and Rimmer is dead.
    NorWeb was one of the old electric companies before they were privatised.
    You really should do the Rimmer salute when you react to the next episode. I double dare you. 😁

    This episode inspired me to try gazpacho soup... I don't go to restaurants so I kind of had to try my best from online references.. I like it and I do it fairly regularly today.. (well; I can't be arsed to strain it so it's more like.. gazpacho mush.. but.. why throw away parts of the vegetables just to make it more liquidy?)

    • @rogerlundstrom6926
      @rogerlundstrom6926 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Smoking areas worked.. IF they were set up properly; Active ventilation.. Even if you don't intentionally put an out-suck above the smoking areas, you just have to place the smoking area next to places where the out-suck is, and the non-smoking next to the air intakes.. I don't say it's a 100% thing (as in you can't even smell it), but it is 100% effective against the bigger particles and also well over 90% effective for the smaller ones.. If you SMELL smoke it's probably from the clothes of smokers rather than the smoke travelling to your non-smoking area.. (or.. The people who laid out the restaurant just didn't know what they were doing)

    Good morning Megan. Interesting to hear you speak about reading others diaries and how you feel that is inappropriate. The diary of Anne Frank is one of the most read books in the world and Anne clearly did not give consent to this being published (as she died in Bergen-Belsen). As Rimmer is dead, is it not therefore, acceptable to read his diary? This allows Lister an insight into the life and aspirations of a colleague now departed.

    • @MeganRuth
      @MeganRuth  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Very good point! I hadn’t thought of that. I often forget Rimmer is technically dead because he’s a prominent character in the show

    Cloning the may well be psychology the but your personality and consciousness you would be different it's what you exspirience from a-z on and in your life's journey that makes you, you.

    • @Rocket1377
      @Rocket1377 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not necessarily. It depends on when and how the clone was created. For example, the Jean Grey clone in the X-Men cartoon was created when she was an adult, and therefore has a fully developed brain and all of her memories and powers.

  • @dupersuper1938

    I...don't think she knows how clones work.

    • @Rocket1377
      @Rocket1377 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends on the technology involved. In some science fiction stories, a subjects memories are copied too, so the fully developed adult clone is near identical to the original.
