    I also have a 2015 ML350 and followed this tip and had no issues. Once everything is back in place cuts aren’t visible. I viewed others where you basically tear the boot apart, why Mercedes never fitted a hatch is beyond me. TOP TIP !!

    I can’t believe how easy this was, paid $64 at MB of Valencia and $7 for 10mm ratchet.. did it in 5 min.. once you cut the carpet with a cutting knife, it’s really to notice you even cut it, especially with that net on the side. People, time is money. This was a smart move. Now, I pray the battery under the passenger seat will hold on a while longer.

    You should design for Mercedes. Their engineers can't even think of that? I guess they really like people paying a $1,000 to change a stupid little battery at a dealership.

      Doug, just came back from my indy Mercedes repair store and they wanted $247 for battery and labor. Called MB dealership and the battery is $47 and with this vid saved myself $200.

    Hey, I love the video but I have a question. What happens when you start putting stuff in the net area. Does the carpet still hold in place ?

    • @calibenz1097
      @calibenz1097  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, thank you for your feedback and glad this could help. To answer your question, I personally haven’t had any issues with anything falling through the section I cut, it seems to be pretty sturdy. I wouldn’t recommend cutting too far back on both sides, just enough to get through to the battery. I hope this helps.

    • @calibenz1097
      @calibenz1097  ปีที่แล้ว

      I looked again and there’s a piece of metal that sits under the carpet towards the center and that helps it from not falling down.

    Good idea I say but is there any support below the area you cut?

    • @calibenz1097
      @calibenz1097  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      World Peace , there’s no support below, but the carpet/material is pretty strong and still holds small items without a problem. I keep leather wipes and micro fiber towels in that small section and no issues so far.

    I have a 2015 ml350 and I did this procedure. Getting to the battery was no problem. I found replacing the battery not that easy unless you have small hands. Getting the bolt for the bracket back in was difficult finally had to remove the rubber part out of the bracket to get the bolt and hole to line up. Also, my flooring is not carpet but part of the molded portion covering the wheel well and does not go back so easily. Thanks, MB with a little more effort you could have found a more difficult place to put the battery.

    just pull the panel where the aux battery stays. Just have to remove the 2 cargo hold down and the lower skid plate pull out the rubber seal. I took out the 10mm bolt holding the aux battery with a gear wrench but was a pain in the butt trying to install it in place. I had to remove the whole aux battery cradle held down by 4 nuts and 1 bolt. Thank you for the idea though

    I watched all the "take the whole back end out" videos - This made much more sense. Two cuts with an Exacto knife and the job was done. You can't see the cuts in this area because it is the first aid kit storage area and the kit hides the hardly perceptival cuts.

    • @calibenz1097
      @calibenz1097  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, you could buy it from a local Mercedes Benz dealer, but I bought mine online from a company I’ve been buying genuine MB parts from for years with no complaints and the price is usually a little better than other sellers including the dealer. The company is called Pelican Parts. Their site will make you choose the make model and year so it can match you up with the right parts for your specific vehicle

    • @calibenz1097
      @calibenz1097  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, I luckily didn’t notice a difference after the auxiliary battery malfunction displayed on my dashboard. I ordered the battery online the same day it happened, got the battery within 2 days, and replaced it right away. I still drove the car those 2 days while the battery was being delivered and didn’t notice anything different. I do know that the auxiliary battery helps supply power to interior electronics, radio, and the start/stop function depending on the year (mostly on the new models that have the start/stop function when you break). I hope that helps.

  • @amirb715
    @amirb715 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    what exactly does that battery do? Does it also have anything to do with the liftgate pump?

    • @calibenz1097
      @calibenz1097  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, the auxiliary battery mainly helps supply power to the interior electronics and other things like the engine start and stop function when you come to a stop (if your vehicle has that). These cars are good about notifying you if something needs to be replaced. Have you seen any messages on your dashboard about the auxiliary battery needing to be replaced? My vehicle displayed that message when the auxiliary battery was starting to give out.

      Don Kim thank you. Yes, I bought the part on a website I recommend called Pelicanparts. I just looked it up and the battery is only $50. I didn’t charge it, just replaced the old with the new and the auxiliary malfunction notice went away right away.

    Did you disconnect the main battery? Also what were the symptoms you got that the sec battery was failing? Today my wife told me she saw some weir behavior with the gear shift not working. I have a 2015 ml350

    • @calibenz1097
      @calibenz1097  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cesar Bojorquez , hello, no I didn’t have to disconnect the main battery, only replaced the Auxiliary battery, started the car up and the message was gone, everything seemed to go back to normal. In my case, I didn’t notice any symptoms, just got the “auxiliary battery malfunction” message and replaced it within a few days after the part arrived in the mail but my wife still drove it during that time and didn’t notice anything different. I did some research while I was waiting for the battery to make sure nothing serious could happen and found some posts about the same issue you mentioned where the gear wouldn’t change into drive due to a malfunctioning auxiliary battery. I recommend replacing it as soon as possible just so you don’t run into more issues down the line. The auxiliary battery was inexpensive in my opinion, around $50-$60 for an oem aux battery.

    • @cesarbojorquez7418
      @cesarbojorquez7418 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cali Benz I see one in Amazon for $49 that looks ok. Did you got yours from the dealer?

    • @calibenz1097
      @calibenz1097  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cesar Bojorquez I bought mine from a company called Pelican Parts, they sell oem parts, but I shop around to make sure I’m not over paying. I usually check and compare oem parts from Pelican Parts, Autohauz, and then with the local Mercedes Benz dealer. If the battery you found has the Mercedes Benz logo or it at least states it’s an oem part that sounds like a fair price. Just make sure it’s the correct fit for your model and year.

      Hello, not sure if you’ve seen other videos on how to gain access to the auxiliary battery but the correct way other videos have shown is to remove so many things just to get to that little battery. I tried doing it the hard way and gave up, almost wanted to take it to the dealer where they would have charged me a lot of money to replace. Instead, I took a chance and cut the carpet and found an easier way to gain access to the battery and replace it from that opening instead of having to take the entire side panel and some other things apart. Replacing the battery the way I showed it on the video took me less than 10 minutes from start to finish. Hope it helps if you’re trying to find a quick, cheap, and easy way to replace it.
