I also have a 2015 ML350 and followed this tip and had no issues. Once everything is back in place cuts aren’t visible. I viewed others where you basically tear the boot apart, why Mercedes never fitted a hatch is beyond me. TOP TIP !!
This idiot made me cut the car carpet and the Auxiliary battery is actually under the hood!! It is my fault, he made it look so easy I went for it, just to ruin the back of my Mercedes!!!!
I have a 2015 ml350 and I did this procedure. Getting to the battery was no problem. I found replacing the battery not that easy unless you have small hands. Getting the bolt for the bracket back in was difficult finally had to remove the rubber part out of the bracket to get the bolt and hole to line up. Also, my flooring is not carpet but part of the molded portion covering the wheel well and does not go back so easily. Thanks, MB with a little more effort you could have found a more difficult place to put the battery.
Hello, thank you for your feedback and glad this could help. To answer your question, I personally haven’t had any issues with anything falling through the section I cut, it seems to be pretty sturdy. I wouldn’t recommend cutting too far back on both sides, just enough to get through to the battery. I hope this helps.
Thank you for this video. I just bought the auxiliary battery from my local fcp euro for only $48, and I installed it in less than 15 minutes. You can't even tell where I cut the carpet. Amazingly simple.
I watched all the "take the whole back end out" videos - This made much more sense. Two cuts with an Exacto knife and the job was done. You can't see the cuts in this area because it is the first aid kit storage area and the kit hides the hardly perceptival cuts.
Hello, the auxiliary battery mainly helps supply power to the interior electronics and other things like the engine start and stop function when you come to a stop (if your vehicle has that). These cars are good about notifying you if something needs to be replaced. Have you seen any messages on your dashboard about the auxiliary battery needing to be replaced? My vehicle displayed that message when the auxiliary battery was starting to give out.
Hello, I luckily didn’t notice a difference after the auxiliary battery malfunction displayed on my dashboard. I ordered the battery online the same day it happened, got the battery within 2 days, and replaced it right away. I still drove the car those 2 days while the battery was being delivered and didn’t notice anything different. I do know that the auxiliary battery helps supply power to interior electronics, radio, and the start/stop function depending on the year (mostly on the new models that have the start/stop function when you break). I hope that helps.
@@calibenz1097 It did Cali, as I had my main battery replaced today and they wanted $234 to replace the aux battery in my 2012 ML350. Glad I held off on the aux. I will be doing it your way. Keep up the good work, can't thank you enough.
You should design for Mercedes. Their engineers can't even think of that? I guess they really like people paying a $1,000 to change a stupid little battery at a dealership.
Doug, just came back from my indy Mercedes repair store and they wanted $247 for battery and labor. Called MB dealership and the battery is $47 and with this vid saved myself $200.
Great video thank you, can I ask where that green wire goes to, mine has came loose and I cant see what it is supposed to be connected to , I have a free lead . maybe the connecting crimp has came off, any idea what it is and where it connects. Many Thanks
@@jcheck6 the aux connectors can and do get loose and as this battery puts out such a small charge can cause problems I fixed by putting in more secure battery connectors
Also when replacing main battery is advisable to put some charge with a jump start battery for example I just use one those lithium ones connected to points under bonnet for jump start as apparently if you don’t and have no power in circuit can be issue when new battery connected with settings etc .. many of the videos suggest this
Hello, not sure if you’ve seen other videos on how to gain access to the auxiliary battery but the correct way other videos have shown is to remove so many things just to get to that little battery. I tried doing it the hard way and gave up, almost wanted to take it to the dealer where they would have charged me a lot of money to replace. Instead, I took a chance and cut the carpet and found an easier way to gain access to the battery and replace it from that opening instead of having to take the entire side panel and some other things apart. Replacing the battery the way I showed it on the video took me less than 10 minutes from start to finish. Hope it helps if you’re trying to find a quick, cheap, and easy way to replace it.
Hello, you could buy it from a local Mercedes Benz dealer, but I bought mine online from a company I’ve been buying genuine MB parts from for years with no complaints and the price is usually a little better than other sellers including the dealer. The company is called Pelican Parts. Their site will make you choose the make model and year so it can match you up with the right parts for your specific vehicle
I’m glad this helped you. Small jobs like this one shouldn’t have to cost people hundreds to fix. Thank you for the feedback and information on where you bought the battery. I’ll definitely check them out for other parts.
Hello, you can buy them online or at the dealer. Should cost around $50-$60. I bought the battery from a website, pelicanparts.com. I buy a majority of my parts from them.
I can’t believe how easy this was, paid $64 at MB of Valencia and $7 for 10mm ratchet.. did it in 5 min.. once you cut the carpet with a cutting knife, it’s really to notice you even cut it, especially with that net on the side. People, time is money. This was a smart move. Now, I pray the battery under the passenger seat will hold on a while longer.
World Peace Hello, You have a good point. A socket wrench would make this a whole lot easier for sure. Hopefully I don’t have to replace this battery anytime soon, but will definitely use a socket wrench next time.
I changed mine , I did not cut the carpet , I think some youtube videos exagerate a bit , but it was a 1/2 job .
Any one know the battery specs
Genius way to access battery
Thanks so much, this really help
Thank you!!!!!! I was stuck with getting one of the bolts loose, this saved me from having to go to the dealer 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Please how do you know your auxiliary battery is bad ?
Hello, a warning should pop up on the dashboard. It will say something like check/replace auxiliary battery.
I saw that
Do you know where from the auxiliary battery gets his power? From main battery or does the car load it seperatly? Thanks!
Thank you for the video. What are the dimensions of the battery? And the part number? Is anything necessary after change by software?
Thank you. This is beyond perfect.
Careful, the battery is bigger on my model ML 250 2013.
Wow That's Great Thanks
I would bet this is how the dealership does it but the service manual writes to remove all rear components to charge more labor time and money.

Did you check if you had the same vehicle? All W166 MLs have the battery in the rear gate
THank you! Why taking it apart when you can just cut a little :) Amazing.
Great tutorial. Mentioned in a few comments above but putting the battery bracket bolt back in is a “feel” job unless you have tiny hands 😂😂.
Can't thank you enough for this video! You saved me so much time and effort.
This worked great. Saved lots of time and money. Thanks.

Hey, I love the video but I have a question. What happens when you start putting stuff in the net area. Does the carpet still hold in place ?

I looked again and there’s a piece of metal that sits under the carpet towards the center and that helps it from not falling down.
Awesome !!! Thanks again for the great help

Can you share brand and model of the battery? Original is expensive. Still does his job after one year?

This totally worked for my 2015 ML 350! Thank you!
what exactly does that battery do? Does it also have anything to do with the liftgate pump?

Before I unplug the battery. Do I have to do anything else? Like disconnect the main battery?
Hello, no, just make sure the car is off and you should be fine. I didn’t have my keys in the ignition when I replaced mine.
Well that’s 100x easier this way. Good video thank you

Do i have to disconnect the main battery before replacing AUX battery?
No but make sure your car is off and the keys are not in the ignition.
Thanks a lot bro. This is soo helpful!
This auxiliary battery powers the auto transmission select plus other electronics So if starts but won’t go in gear likely aux battery flat

$257 at my MB dealership and $47 for the aux.

What do these batteries run?
Hello, it ranges from $46-$65 depending where you buy it but most of them are going for $50 online
Thank you so much! You’re life saver! Although I have to open the side panel to get the battery out.
Brilliant idea!
It is sucks . Why you have to cut the Capet ? Anyway you have to open side board to take out battery . What is for cut the board? Just look??

Why a gear wrench? Can’t a 10mm socket wrench with a 1/4” ratchet suffice? The reason I ask is if you are saying there is a space issue? Thanks!
