    great video, the only comment would be to lubricate the new washer ring with some oil before putting it on the filter housing

    Great specifics on all but the difficulty getting the undershield back in place. First, you can't reach the back two screws without lifting the truck some. Worse, because of the angle the rear of the plastic shield requires to get back above the rear cross piece and into place to screw back in, you really have to lift the front even more to be able to get enough angle to get it jammed up in there. And you most definitely can not start putting it back on from the front back. Back has to go up/back into that slot first, then work your way back to front. All this on a 2014, but I suspect others are similar.
    Thanks for the video - saved me rummaging around for proper sized sockets. First time was a little over an hour with two beers and a sprinkling of profanities. Next time should be done in 30 or less minutes and without scarring any children.

    Much easier option is to extract using a pump from the dipstick route. I bought a mityvac and it makes the job a breeze without the need to go under the car or removing any of the shields and covers

    Nice video👍 I just purchased a new '15 ML 400 and I already know the high labor cost for Mercedes at the dealership. Luckily for me, I'm a DIY mechanic at home working on plenty of cars but not a Mercedes yet.

      This oil change is 180 dollars at the dealership.. completely ridiculous

    • @shino8854

      @@roodick85 That's cheap, I was quoted 350 Euros and that was with cheaper oil.

    You're a good team...Dad explained it very very good! Hopefully some day I'll do it on mine, [bluetec] not sure if it's the very same but most likely it is. Most do the vacuum method but I think this bottom drain is better, just takes longer.

    The new oil filter is empty until the engine is cranked, so I think it would be a good idea to re-check the oil level after cranking the engine.

    Great video and very helpful, but the ML is supposed to hold 8.5 Quarts of oil. (A little over 2 gallons)

    • @jongkim7
      @jongkim7 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct that it's suppose to be 8.5 quarts...he used 7.5 quarts. He should have started the engine and let oil get funneled through the oil filter and re-measure.

    • @worldpeace5853
      @worldpeace5853 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess 7 to 7.5 should be good enough. Hope this helps. Refer here -oil-change.info/mercedes-benz-m-class-engine-oil-capacity/

    thanks for the great video.. some tech told me that mercedes do not actually open the bottom covers they simply suck the old oil out then put the new . claiming that opening covers every time will weaken screws.

    • @pablonaracena
      @pablonaracena 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      jdroid And exactly how are they supposed to do that? I just wonder, because as a previous MB owner, there's no way in earth you can have access to the oil drain plug whitout removing that cover.

    • @megaman4201
      @megaman4201 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They use a vacuum extractor to literally suck the oil out through a tube... from the top.

I followed the direction and was able to do my oil change in 24 minutes. Thank you for saving me $275.00 to $300.00 Dollars. I worked on a mercedes dealer and worked on many of these. I also work on some bmws on the side. German cars arent that special for oil changes. They are as easy to change the oil as your typical toyota, honda, ford or chevy. You just have to know what you are doing.

    • @michael931

      My opinion is yes. However if you want to know for sure, when you change your oil send a sample to Blackstone Labs. For about $35 they will tell you if the oil was still OK. Then you will know. They will send you a sample collection bottle free.
