      I don't think there's a name but I think he was playing by inhaling, instead of exhaling, kinda weird but it's jazz

    • @PeterRobertstadMusic
      @PeterRobertstadMusic ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I realize this reply is years overdue, but for those interested:
      As with many lesser known extended techiques on the trombone this lacks a proper name, but I would say it shares similarities to tounge slapping on the saxophone, so I usually refer to it as slap-toungue. What you do is you with high velocity shove your tounge in the back of the mouthpiece to shut the throat, which creates the percussive "popping" sound which sounds pitchless but can create some resonance tones. The rest of the texture is just semi-pitchless multitounging were you try to articulate air with various degrees of tone.
      And it is played with exhaling breath predominantly(as I saw someone suggest it might be with inhalation)

      @@jumptosky4768 Yes, I understand what you mean but I know James Morrison, I met him in a festival and I know his way of playing and it's often a question of showing what he's able to do and even if he is kind with the young guy during this video, he always shows more technical virtuosity than search for beauty. Please consider the end of my first answer about creative virtuosity, emotional virtuosity and conceptual virtuosity.
