A few decades ago I had a job working on aTV commercial that took me around the world; starting from L.A. I then went from NY, to London, Bangkok, and Australia. The project was the first "I still call Australia home" commercial for Qantas Airlines. While in Australia we flew all over, Sydney, Wilpena Pound, Alice Springs, and Port Campbell. I was the aerial cinematographer and besides shooting scenic landscape shots, talent was placed in unique sites. In Port Campbell we met up with the talent; James Morrison. I had never heard of him, so I didn't know what to expect. Note: when shooting from aircraft we shoot without sound because of the rotor and jet engine sound. Our location was a place called - The Seven Sisters (?) a group of rock outcroppings off the coast where the pilot dropped James off. We circled him as he played his horn. That night we sat at a big wooden table, at a small hotel where we were the only guests, along with James' brother. We had some good food and fun laughs. It wasn't until the commercial aired did I actually hear James play. James has his own plane and he and his brother departed the next morning and in a few days we would hook up with him again in Alice Springs. (The cross-country flight took us a little longer in the Jet Ranger helicopter and we shot senics along the way.) It took me a few months, but I acquired every CD he's made and he is now right at the top of my favorite contemporary trumpet players list. Many years later I was browsing the L.A. Times Sunday Calendar Section. I spotted a rare concert happening with Lalo Schifrin... and then I noticed that Brian Bromberg was playing bass and JAMES was on trumpet... WOW! Needless to say I had to hear him live, and I did. The sad thing for me was that after the show I reintroduced myself but he had no clue to who I was and was eager to move on to the next person... that's all right... he's still one of the greats and I admire him for his talents. For me, it was an honor to photograph him and to be apart of the team that made that commercial so successful.
wat a sound wat a player wat a man james is bordering on freak.in all my years I have never known anybody with more control of there instrument than this man.i am glad we still have people like james to keep the jazz fire burning.many thanks.

What a great concert and James is amazing on how he is so proficient on all the instruments he plays.! I watched this & then looked forlornly at my Trombone in the corner of my bedroom, lol.!
If there is a better all around jazz player I am not aware of them. Outstanding performance as usual by James, and the band is exceptional for sure. His playing is effortless and natural, like great players of the past. Love, Love, Love!!!!
This is a beautiful arrangement of Sentiment Over You by Hames Morrison. I have heard him on his trumpet before. You fall in love with his renditions of many songs.
That first song has to be the smoothest way I have ever seen someone play off of not being able to hit an ultra high note lol. Even James Morrison, the trumpet god he is can struggle when playing early on without enough of a warm up. The professionalism though where he knows he's not gonna hit it and cracks a quick joke.
Fantastic in all aspects. Of course Mr. James Morrison in the first place ........but also both Drummers and all other musicians. A "Super-Super-Orchestra".
Heard James many years ago in Dick Deutch's " Just Jazz " club in St. Louis. He is a monster musician . Rhythm section in St. Louis included Tom and Ray Kennedy and they were blown away with James.
I'd never heard of this guy before, but I watched him live last night. I don't think he's known much in the UK ( I may be wrong ? ), but he was on at my local theatre for a one-off gig, and I thought I'd give it a go. All I can say is WOW !! I was totally gobsmacked at what he did. One of the best concerts I've ever been to. And his 2 sons are also extremely talented musicians. Most important of all, they all looked like they were thoroughly enjoying playing ( enjoying it, and then some - it was a joy to watch ! ) As I say, last night was the first time I'd heard him - I'm now seeking out any recordings I can find :-) ( hence commenting here ! )
Oh, goodness. Trombones do not, typically sound like that at all. But then, they are not typically played by James Morrison. MAN... You could probably screw some damn nice notes out of a hot kettle. WELL DONE, as is usual.
Is this the same fabulous drummer (Steve Brown) that used to play with the Scott Hamilton/Harry Allen Europark-gig in 2000 in Germany? Great band with James at his best! Enjoy & Cheers!
Doug Al Everyone has a different style of playing, I thought the same thing when I was in middle school but then I saw professional players and asked the same question. The answer I got was what I first said, It's kind of like your health, everyone has a different way in which their body functions, what is good for one person is not good for another. Also, puffing your cheeks allows your body to hold a bit more air and if you are a brass player I highly recommend you go watch his tutorial videos. Type in on TH-cam: James Morrison trumpet tutorial.
James Morrisson @ 29.40 - so relaxed and swinging with a sweet tone on that 'bone!! The other player is trying too hard, playing stiffly and overblowing with those bollock- chops?! IMHO 😉

Monstro com essa Big Band. Impossível não amar esse som. Magnânimo.
I just simply don't understand how JM and his group made those classic pieces sound so high society. WOW DAMN
What a fine chap!Great leading man.Very inspiring musician...
Honestly, the virtuosity of this cat blows my mind.
All cheers to James.
James, you are a Wizard of Wizards. And the other guys on stage aren't half bad either. Thank you all for the music!

당신은 최고의 뮤지션 이군요.사랑합니다
Never heard of this guy...so glad TH-cam recommended the "Melbourne Degraves Flash Mob concert..." he's really super.
My school band was accompanying him there!
33:40 That solo! Those high C's on different positions is just awesome!

This is a beautiful arrangement of Sentiment Over You by Hames Morrison. I have heard him on his trumpet before. You fall in love with his renditions of many songs.
29:55 That trumpet shake though
AMAZING! and that band is smokin'!!

Amazing

Ballzac
Tom and Ray were the bomb. Such underated giants!!!
You might think James is just showing off. As Ali said many times, "I'm the greatest", and he was. So is James.
music this good should be illegal! love it!
Уникальный музыкант! Супер! Восхищение и уважение!

Pleasant surprise Steve was on drums, I thought I recognised the drummer
Is this all of James’s own band, or just some players.
Great playing...absolutely world class.
Monstrueux, c'est un extra-terrestre qui joue
Mais comment comment il fait???

Dizzy go back to school. (You gave it away too much).
THE DRUMMER IS A MAN OR WOMAN,?
a man - why, do you ask?
bear nice e
? looks more like a woman to me?
be nice; you’re just plain nasty!
Tommy Dorsey was no where near as good a trombonist as James Morrison.
I thought you weren't suppose to puff out your cheeks when playing a brass instrument
Doug Al Everyone has a different style of playing, I thought the same thing when I was in middle school but then I saw professional players and asked the same question. Not unless you are the one and only DIzzy. Sign of a poor untrained player.
James Morrisson @ 29.40 - so relaxed and swinging with a sweet tone on that 'bone!! The other player is trying too hard, playing stiffly and overblowing with those bollock- chops?! IMHO 😉
