I saw him do it live, in the Albert Hall, Launceston, Tasmania . 1992. He played Ain't Misbehavin' with the Win 4 showband. ... with horn it was mind-blowing!!
James is the consummate professional musician who’s versatility has delighted audiences around the world bring smiles to their faces and joy to their ears! He shares his gifts with humility and amazing precision! Great to hear you as always, James. 🙏😊🎶🎶
That could so easily have been a flatly pointless party trick, but the impressive thing is that he plays both trumpet and piano REALLY WELL. Nice one Mr Morrison!
Methinks you are also telling porky pies. That trumpet is custom designed by James and manufactured/supplied by Schagerl Music GmbH in a sponsorship deal since he left Yamaha on the same basis as Thomas Gansch and the Ganschhorn.
@@simonbrennan7283 No porky pies, when I can plead ignorance in being a guitar/bass player but I can assure you at the age of around 16, he was gifted a trumpet of that Gillespie style by another band member. Maybe it was a Yamaha. Thanks for your expert knowledge. I still do not like the appearance of that trumpet as it looks like it has been bent in a accident. It also hides the facial expression of the player and removes the expressive effect of raising the trumpet. James continued mostly to use the conventional form back then. I have a photo of James holding that trumpet. Maybe you can analyse it ?
I've just found the photo. Yes, the trumpet gifted to James had a conventionally shaped tube with horn section bent upwards whereas in the above model the tube section is almost circular.
@@db5837 My apologies. TH-cam comments is so full of outlandish claims sometimes I can't but help call them out when I see them. I have seen James perform twice over the past 18 months and on both occasions he has crooned over his 'new toy' and informed the audience of his collaboration with Schagerl as he has an enormous following in Europe. As you'd well know he has performed with Dizzy and Maynard Ferguson amongst others and even though I wouldn't call him a narcissist he is definitely a showman and likes the spotlight. He would not be where he was today if he wasn't. Having said that the bent trumpet design is becoming more common these days, see the Ganschhorn I mentioned previously. It is more about acoustic delivery than showmanship. This was very noticeable at the Australian National Band Championships the weekend before last, particularly in the A grade performances. EVERY brass player had at least one if not multiple mutes laying at their feet, including tubas and some players would turn away from or towards the audience during pieces to diminish or enhance acoustics with out affecting intonation. This I believe is what the design sets out to achieve and as you point out and James also mentions, this model looks a bit like a cornet however has the tube length of a trumpet giving it a more circular style.

@@MississaugaTempleBand To be honest => NO. James Morrisson is a SUPER JAZZ MUSICIAN .... but CIRCUS - SHOW - elements work negatively in my opinion. I’ve been a fan of Mr. Morrison for years but had no idea he Gould play the piano! But to ply both at once! Holy cow!
He is on a different level
James plays quite a few instruments and often accompanies himself - always so musically mischievous!
Nice pun, “Gould play the piano.”” Intended, or not? 😊

UNIQUELY UNIQUE
Outstanding musician. Absolute world-class. I’m thrilled.

It's so unbelievably good. You're right though, could be a party trick but what he does just...wow.
He's been doing it for years th-cam.com/video/Vih7DulOzIc/w-d-xo.html
Gotta love James
🤔In my next reincarnation I will apply this technique !
James Morrison is truly one of my favorite trumpeters.
Had the privilege of playing with James when he was much younger and a friend of mine gifted him that trumpet back then.
Wow. You must have wealthy friends. That's a gold plated, custom Schagerl Raweni rotary.

Extraordinary to play the trumpet and the piano at the same time ! You are phenomenal !
Do not agree with YOU! This is not difficult at all. What is difficult: To play the TROMBONE and the PIANO at the same time!

A genius! Seems to me very difficult to play the trumpet thinking one tone up than piano and even to make a great solo !! Master!
It's so incredible to see him do this.
He's truly a genius. He's not thinking one tone up on Trumpet. He's just doing it!

Super top executions. Morrison top musician.
First time seeing James with a beard loll a master at work. Always amazed and in awe of his chops and locked in embocuhure
Did you know he doesn't warm up either!?
@MississaugaTempleBand Nah, he warms up a little bit ..he must!
An amazing musician!
Jo vull conèixer aquest home!!! No es pot tocar millor!!! ❤
Wow! Playing the alternating bass on the piano while playing the bugle is amazing.
He just blows your mind with his playing
Superbe ! jouer aussi bien à la fois à la trompette et au piano... C'est la grande classe !
This is one of those times when you cannot blame the accompanist.
I’d heard the name, but now I’m a full-on fan! I heard Phil Woods do Alto Sax/piano and this is right up there with that! Bravo!!

Jim, you might have thrown in a few paradiddles on the drums in the background, you clever git. Wonderful stuff. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it
Is there an instrument J.M. can't play ? Proud to be an Aussie when this jazz man blows a tune !
If I recall correctly he doesn't play drums.
I wouldn't be surprised if he had a ‘quartet’ with him also playing trombone and sax at the same time.
Fantástico.
Beleza pura.
Bravo!
Very NICE! Is that a modified cornet with a bell bent like Dizzy?
Genial!
Chapeau

Not humanly possible to be this good. Thia man isnt from thia planet🤣yall should check out his trombone playing skills too, or saxophone
❤❤❤
Great! But what about the officers sitting there?
Those are actually members of our percussion section.
Don't think that I've seen a musician accompany themselves before.
It's unreal
James has a habit of doing it th-cam.com/video/Vih7DulOzIc/w-d-xo.html
What sort of trumpet is that?
he plays with a trumpet in C or in Bb?
Bb
👍
What trumpet he using? 🤔
It's a vartion of a Bb trumpet built by Schagerl called "Raweni".

So good.
😂😂😂❤

To play The TROMBONE and the PIANO ...THAT is DIFFICULT!
