Hello @The DP Journey! You mentioned @9:28 that S1H records RAW Externally with Ninja V and "Atom X" SSD only, since I have 1TB Samsung Evo Plus for External recording, does that mean my Samsung Evo Plus will not record RAW Externally? Please I would really appreciate your reply on this. Thank you so much.
Good to see you back out with something new Sherif. Your content adds so much depth to the community. Really glad you showed the comparison between the S1H and the BM. I was beginning to wonder if I’d made the best decision going with BM but seeing the results, I think I can sit comfortably with my choice. Wish you all the best and keep posting these great videos as you find time!
Thanks again Reginald. Always great to hear your feedback. Yeah BM is amazing, SH as well, each is good for different reasons. And yeah I know I'm not as frequent as other youtubers, but again, hard to find time in the middle of my DP work. Stay tuned, I have one more for ProRes RAW post production ;)
Definitely the clearest and most in-depth review on this subject (as is part 2). You are great. And, I'm sure you've heard, look like Pete Townshend's younger brother. :)
Thank you so much for all your initiated information. I simply don´t understand if it is possible to get 12 bit out of the S1H externally when the internal is 10 bit. I´m expecting a Ninja V very soon in exchange for an old camera I had. Will it record 12 bit? Would be so thankful for an answer. /Johan
Great looking and thorough analysis. Very helpful in the decision making process when choosing the right camera system for my needs. Thank you very much!
I went to the Panasonic site and it says the PRORES RAW feature is not in the V2.0... I’m confused after watching this video. Is it available now or no?
I have the Shogun Inferno from Atomos, more expensive than the options mentioned in the video. I also have the S1H. Would this mean I cannot use this Atomos for Proress RAW? Would be such a shame..
Great work Sherif! Incredibly helpful video. I purchased my Ninja V (with the $200 discount) a couple weeks ago...now just waiting for the firmware to drop.
I'm extremely curious why 3.5K ANA (externally) was chosen to have that particular pixel count - and not actually go with the pixel count of the 3.3K internal. Or - why not offer a 3.3K 60FPS ANA external recording alongside the now-existing 3.5K 50FPS ANA one? I think it's worth asking Panasonic about it.
I think they actually wanted to maximise sensor area for anamorphic, not framerates. However, a usable 2.5x slow motion can be obtained if they would implement the 3.3K anamorphic as well - I feel it could bring value for anamorphic shooters wanting a bit of slow motion and high quality using external raw recording
I'm thinking about getting an S1H, but don't think I'll be using the 5.9k option very much personally, except on the occasion client shoot. If I shoot 4k either Raw or internal, it will won't use the full sensor? And basically perform the same as a super 35 sensor? Is that correct?
hey, you can shoot 4K and FHD using th efull sensor ctaully. 4K 60fps is the only option limiting you to S35. I spoke about htis in full details here: th-cam.com/video/FQeZsBwzr0Q/w-d-xo.html
Have your Panasonic a FULL HDMI output? in your sample of cables ur showing a full size HDMI cable. by mistake I got a 10Gbps cable, it means it will affect my set and performance and also I got a SATA usb cable 3.0 instead of a 3.1 for the SSD. I use a Sony camera, any suggestions? Thank you.
Great video ! Too bad the 4k prores isn't full frame. How much bigger is the file size between 5.9k prores and 4k prores? And also, would buying a Atomos Ninja V be a smart thing to do today, or is there any news about the next version of it and the release date for it? Anyone knows?
Thanks for your infos. Really useful. Have you tested the 50 fps anamorphic mode on the Ninja V? I'm still shooting on the GH5 and in 50fps the image is so small on the Ninja, almost like the display on the GH5 itself. They still didn't fix this. Now I'm wondering if it's full screen with the S1H?
Hey Filip, yes the teaser film was all shot in anamorphic on the ninja V. Not sure what you meant by the image is too small, it is the squeezed and it fits the width of the ninja. It’s a 5 inch monitor in all cases which is bigger than the 3 inch screens on our cameras anyway
@@THEDPJOURNEY thank you, allright, then it's only an issue with the GH5, because in the 2x desqueeze mode I not only have black bars on top and bottom but also left and right. So they don't use the full screen width for monitoring even after the newest firmware update. But the recording resolution is ok.
@@THEDPJOURNEY Yes, 100%. Using it all the time - feeding Connex mini tx on camera to a wireless monitor. Connex mini is an excellent wireless video system, by the way. Smallest/lightest tx. They were made for drones.
You can download Nlog from Nikons website for Premiere...and the Z6 doesn’t bin or skip in dx crop mode so it brings it down to the same sensor size as the Blackmagic
The Nlog your'e talking about is a Nlog to Rec709 conversion. What I'm talking about here is the Linear RAW to NLog. Teh z6 cannot shoot in FF RAW at 4K, it's simply not physically possible, its sensor is 6K, so if you shoot raw, then it has to be 6K. So if the output is 4K (which is the case) yet still FF, then it applies pixel binning or line skipping. There's no other way to it
I noticed you gave the nod on s35 fps to s1h vs p6k fps. It can only do 50fps but thats at 6k, the p6k can also do c4k which the s1h is capped at for s35 mode at 60 as well. I know you are probably aware but it just didnt make sense to me.
I know of course about the 60, but it's widescreen, not 16:9, so not apples to apples. but the 16:9 in BM it's 50. Not sure what didn't make sense I'm sorry. Ia lso already mentioned the 6K... confused on what you meant
@@THEDPJOURNEY The P6K can also do 5.7K 60fps at 17:9 which results in 5.4K 60 when cropped to 16:9. Additional crop factor is about 1.07 in 17:9 and about 1.14 when further cropped to 16:9. Also the crop in 2.8K 120 is about 2.14 in 17:9 and about 2.28 when cropped to 16:9.
8:10 I always thought shooting RAW negates the need to shoot in a log profile since you are recording sensor data and are able to "select" gamma in post. What am I missing? Thanks
You're right... V-Log is a Log conversion from Raw Data. check the second video which talks more in details about that here: th-cam.com/video/LlkiPWCUhik/w-d-xo.html
The DP Journey congrats again! Great job! What are you using to zoom and defocus your virtual camera when you are presenting your keynote animations? Thanks!
According to Atomos, the Ninja V plus can record 4k DCI RAW at 23.98/24fps from the S1H. 4096 x 2960 12-Bit 23.98/25/29.97/50/59.94fps. And what happened to the codec that netflix authorizes?: 4k DCI 4:2:2 10bit 400 bt/s?????
Hi🙏 let me ask u does Lumix S1H record ProRes Raw via Atomos Ninja V, right? If there is no Atomos Ninja V connected to Lumix S1H so it does not do? There is not typed on Specs of Lumix S1H & Atomos Ninja V that its records 12bit as well👀 what is reality?
Considering this is Nikon's first serious step into video, it says a lot that it is being compared to more dedicated video options even if it falls short of some features. I would hope that their next mirrorless camera addresses many of these shortcomings. I believe some can even be fixed with a firmware update.
Some of us (with Nikon legacy glass) started out with the Nikon/Atomos Filmaker’s Kit but Apple never really delivered on FCPX support for this camera… I’ve tried using the Sony Cin profile (since Nikon still uses the Sony video chip) but the “kludge” is underwhelming.
Great video! I was thinking of one of the GH cameras but the S1H is just so good. A really great camera that you can keep for a very long time I'm sure. BTW, what adapter did you use for your lens?
The incamera denoise may be not an issue anymore with firmware 2.0. Noise reduction artifacts are supposed to be gone and the -1 setting for NR in V-Log should disable it entirely.
Denoise will always be there in internal recording. FW2.0 will let you denoise less than before with the -1 option. But it’ll still denoise. RAW on the other hand will not denoise at all
@@THEDPJOURNEY shooting music videos and film at 24p and 48p is the perfect slow motion mode in that case. Available internally and I'm using it all the time.
Yeah but shooting 50 instead of 48 have no drawbacks whatsoever. Not sure still why you prefer 48 over 50. Curious to better understand. I meant what “perfect” in 48 that’s not perfect in 50
Very informative video! Just wondering do you think Panasonic can add an internal full frame 4k 60 option down the line or is this not possible due to sensor/processor limitations.
There's one clear advantage of Z6 - autofocus. And it works very well in video. And Nikon's z lenses are in fact very very good for this. Almost no breathing and absolutely silent focusing. I know, I know, professionals don't rely on autofocus :). But in fact this is the only reason I'm not switching to S1H. If only we could merge S1H with Z6...
Yeah but autofocus is a camera advantage. Not related to the firmware and raw. Also lenses. You can adapt Nikon lenses also to S1H in any case, or any other good lens you like for that matter. So can’t see that as advantage
Thank you so much for this video!!!! :D What lens/lenses would you recommend for the Panasonic S1H? I've been thinking of building and converting a set of vintage primes. What will you be using? (I know you used the Sigma 18-35 a lot on your GH5 work)
great video ! thank you for your help ! few Question : 1) can you confirm that a "normal" hdmi 2.0 cable with 18 gbps works fine for prores raw flux to ninja V )? (i was considering HDMI 2.1 but there are not thin or slim cables!) 2) is it true that prores raw recording requires extra power for ninja V to work ? how much time do a NP-F770 last in this case for example ?
1-The key here is 18Gbps, and it needs to be quality controlled. The one i posted there is the one i tested and it worked flawlessly. Not sure about others that are thicker. You gotta test them out 2-Power, I havent tested it or timed it properly, 770 would last maybe an hours? Gotta test it. I would carry 4 of those at least on a full day shoot with a charger of course
Doesn't the Nikon Z6 do a full sensor readout in DX crop mode which would give it similar sensor size to the Black Magic? No binning, no line skipping. And it's cheaper. It's just only 4k. Plus those Z lenses are better than anything you can get for that Black Magic if you want Autofocus. Kind of a big deal. ProRes Raw also works in Premiere Pro and you can download the Nikon log files from their website.
That was what I was thinking too, it's a good price, great lenses, and Super 35 is what I shoot on with an Arri right? The problem is, from what I have read, no viewfinder, no client monitors, weird exposure, monitoring inaccuracy, import transform problems, odd color, and the autofocus is severely diminished. I need 12 bit. but these are pretty big costs. I have been asking around to see if I could get someone to test the autofocus on super 35 setting to see if it is more usable than in "full frame" mode. Let me know what you hear!
Amazing review as always! Great to be able to vote for more options! In light of Canon's new R5 camera: Do you think that we will get higher framerates on 4k internally in a future fw upgrade? Cropped or not cropped, I am not sure which would be the best in terms of image quality. Not cropped would be ideal if you want to keep your focal length. I am on PAL shooting mainly 4k and the 4k 50p cropped mode is already a great option.
Nikon Z6 - I bought mine in 2020 for $1800. Panasonic S1H - price in 2021 - $3800. That sort of gets my attention. The extra $200 for the external recording upgrade is trivial. I don't work for clients, so the time lost is not an issue. I take your point about the S1H, and if i were working professionally and starting from scratch, it would be an obvious choice. I have seen criticism of Nikon about pixel binning, but I have never seen a comparison of the Z6 and a comparable camera that does not pixel bin shooting real subjects (not test charts). Consider this a feature request for the comparison.
Hello, I just did the upgrade but I can't switch ON the HDMI RAW data output.... I learn that will be in a next firmware. That's true or not ? Please help me thank you (From France:))
Finally bought the S1H last month after shooting with GH5 for years and after spending $2k last year to rent the S1H for various shoots. I personally don't regret it one bit - the stabilization, the options, the Vlog and HLG settings with panasonic and Leeming luts. It's the most fun I've had shooting. It's the hybrid king with its options. And should the upcoming Sony or Canon dethrone, then sell it. :)
Brandon Vestal I've been a GH5 user for years and it feels like the logical next step, but I love this guy's videos. He really goes in depth with the smallest details and analysis and I love that type of stuff. I feel like I'll just be getting an S1H either way but I like words of affirmation hahahaha. Also I feel like the EOS R5 still has a caveat that hasn't been mentioned. I feel like 8k FF raw is one of those marketing things and their hiding all of the downside.
Bogdan Sorlea Lol, sony's been rumored to announch it for years and they keep dropping the ball. I'm not really interested in anything they're doing. Don't like sony menus, features, and don't need a camera that could fry an egg hahah
@Tuca, @Brandon, I’m at the same crossroads but more of a prosumer than a pro (i.e. getting paid). I’ve owned most of these bodies and selling them off except S1H and waiting on R5 or A7s3/A74 because I simply want 1 hybrid body that can do most if not all. The S1H is a beast and checks all the boxes except for af which the newer A7 series and newer Canon bodies have. For what I use it for, sports, wildlife, travels, etc. as a one man crew, it’s definitely doable but not convenient. This is more towards stills than video.
@@THEDPJOURNEY well... if they didn’t officially approved it, then it most likely 12 bit linear which mean DR of ~12 stops like on FS700/FS5/FS7, Sigma FP and other 12 bit cameras. 12 stops is ok, but first stops of 12 bit linear values is very noisy because of very low gradations. Does anybody know what type of sensor used in S1H? It's possible to find it's specs and clarify.
@@THEDPJOURNEY found it www.sony-semicon.co.jp/products/common/pdf/IMX410CQK_Flyer.pdf 12 bit readout in almost all modes. This sensor also used in Sigma FP, Nikon Z6, and Sony A7III
I believe you’re mixing a lot of stuff here. DR has nothing to do with bit depth. You can have a 15DR sensor in 8 bit for example... or a 10 DR in a 16bit sensor. So DR is not related to bit depth. It’s related to the log profile (amongst a lot of other things).
@@THEDPJOURNEY I don't mix. Sensors capture light linearly. In simple terms, 2 lux to 4 lux of light is a one stop, 32 to 64 lux or 32000 to 64000 is also one stop. And sensors ADC measure it in digital as 2 to 4, 32 to 64, 32000-64000 etc. So to capture 16 stops of light (for example 64000lx to 1lx log2(64000/1) = 16 stops) sensor should have 16bit ADC and large photocells which capable to collect enough photons. Only after this linear values was formed, you can apply any gamma functions or another compression algorithms.
I was disappointed left and right with my Z6... Paid for the upgrade, then found out it was pixel binned and had horrible issues. I actually think the 10-bit log was better, aside from the 12 bit aspect of the PRR. There is also an issue with flickering in low light scenarios on certain ISOs, which renders the footage useless. I am selling the Z system and trying to decide which to upgrade to. It is between the S1H, BMPCC 6k and Zcam E2-F6. I already have the Atomos Ninja, but if you had to choose only one which would you prefer? I was leaning more towards the S1h but now you got me second guessing LOL. Now time to watch your second video. Thank you so much for your extremely detailed and professionally scripted videos. Cheers!
yeah Z6 is not made for this... Honestly... I was expecting BlackMagic to release something this NAB. But I guess that could potentially happen end of this year, if not then NAB 2021. Not sure what type of work you do, but S1H is like the swiss army knife of cameras now. I'd go for it if you have the cash
@@THEDPJOURNEY enjoyed the B&H webinar. Thanks. My S1h is on the way, and i was looking into the memory that you have linked above. The Lexar Professional 2000x 128GB 300mbs, is that enough to handle the internal 4K 10bit 422 at 400 mbs? Have you had any issiues?
But here around 15:20 I think you have something wrong. The RAW can't be 4:4:4 because it is a bayer sensor and those pixels are debayered so they are actually hardware limited to 4:2:0 and software upscaled to 4:4:4. To accieve a real 4:4:4 I think that you have to have at least 4 times the resolution downscaled to the delivered resolution otherwise in a 4 pixel array with two green and one red + one blue the software will decide which one will pick what color and that if you ask me is not true 4:4:4. In photography there are tricks like Foveon sensors or pixelshift technology which stacks 4 images to get the real color information. Or with other words with 6K sensor I think that you can get 4:2:0 or 4:2:2 max in 6K res with some clever software but not 4:4:4. Those are my thoughts :). Otherwise - great vid again! The stuff you are posting is with quality level that deserves a lot more subs on this channel...
Hey man, thanks for the comment. As you know, I kinda need to simplify things to the public as much as possible using common language people would understand. So I sometimes use analogies and comparisons to drive a point through. In this case I said “equivalent” not “is” or “equal to”. As you know this subject is pretty complex and I can have a 30 minute explanation on how it works, but no one would listen or even care. But again thanks on the comment. Raw is raw in the end. It’s not 420 or 444.
The identifiable advantages of the Z6 are weight (1 pound lighter), and price (less than half that of the S1H). Also, many users feel that Nikon's skin rendition is superior to all others. Admittedly, this is subjective.
You specifically mentioned the $200 upgrade fee for the Z-series, so price definitely figures into the evaluation. I am now at an advanced age, so the weight of the rig matters. For me, the only big hit on the Z6 implementation of Pro Res Raw is line skipping. Nikon needs to fix this.
Mentioning the 200$ is part of the whole Prores Raw “experience” if you wanna call it. If you need to get raw... you pay... then what you get is way below any RAW standard I’ve known or seen. So the whole experience is pretty bad. If you care about weight and shooting raw, then BM4k or 6k would be your solution. They’re pretty light
I can agree on that the SH1 is greater in all the specs over the Z6, but you also failed to mention the price difference, a ~$1700 body ($2800 for filmmakers kit which includes the raw and recorder) vs a ~$3900 body only. Almost like it is expected for either camera to have half the features or the double amount of them. You get what you pay for. For a lot of people who want to start shooting with RAW, me inlcuded, this is a cheaper option even if the SH1 is tempting. Even when mentioning the line skipping on the Z6, you really can’t see it on the on any of the examples online, unless there is a 400% loupe to highlight this.
@Joacim Schwartz, I think DP Journey is pretty consistent to compare raw to raw, not price to price (or value vs price). He also showed that the BMPCC 6K which is now priced at $1999 and it beats out the S1H. At the end of the day, without stating the obvious, it’s your use case and budget that dictates or affects your decision. In my opinion though, I would look at it more of tool set that allows you to perform and get the paid jobs that otherwise you wouldn’t get aside your credentials. But I see your point to highlight this as tradeoffs of value vs price, S1H has the specs at ~double the price. Z6 is half the price at a tradeoff in specs. Same could be said about the BMPCC is half the price vs. S1H for the video specs but cannot take any stills, no IBIS, etc. But then this video would need the title to be “which video specs when shooting raw is the best bang for your buck or good value for money” Gotta love competition as it’s good times for prosumers/pros to have more options
@@nomad0714 sorta, i love DP Journey vids but he explicitly said there is no advantage the Z6 offers but come on, it being half the price is def an advantage. im not bashing but just saying it was very weird to compare the price of the p6k to s1h but not the z6 price vs s1h
I didn’t include the price comparison in the mix simply because I believe the Z6 underperforms on all areas, which takes it out of the competition in my opinion . So the price will not be a game changer against the S1H. In other words when a camera loses in on all fronts, there’s no point to consider it as another option. While the BM6K performs extremely well and is a serious competitor to S1H. So It would be a considerable competition to the S1H where it actually wins on many fronts. With that said I’m not sure where the Z6 fits.
@@THEDPJOURNEY 100% agree. it was very interesting to see that WB flaws of Prores Raw as I was reading some codec engineers talking down on BRAW for not being "REAL RAW" and saying just cuz a lack of sliders of drop down menus in FCPx doesn't mean Prores raw cant change iso and WB but man did you prove them totally false lol. Thank you for the videos. i know they arent easy, but hey atleast you got to play with the s1h Prores Raw early
Does that matter when it fails on so many fronts? On the other hand, BM6K wins on many fronts... hence it becomes an official competitor. But Z6 lost everywhere. Even if it’s for 1000$ it won’t matter. And I’m comparing RAW features here of course
@@THEDPJOURNEY Part 1 and 2 really gave me clarity as I own de ninja V and just purchased the S1H. Had more expectations from the RAW tbh but still a improvement I think. THANKs for the great review!
Shogun Inferno can already shoot prores RAW. Im assuming the only thing your recorder needs is HDMI 2.0, so I suggest it's highly likely it will work with S1H.
that's a test worth doing. also because I'm not sure if the Atomos recorders work with all cameras / output resolutions by default or they require firmware upgrade

Did you ever play around with this? I bought the Ninja Inferno for my GH5 a few years ago, wasn't really planning on buying another monitor.
Great work Sherif! Incredibly helpful video.
I purchased my Ninja V (with the $200 discount) a couple weeks ago...now just waiting for the firmware to drop.
yeah i bought mine too. Pretty good piece of gear
I think it's worth asking Panasonic about it.
it's transfer speed limitation probably
@@THEDPJOURNEY thanks! Do you think a firmware update might come out to let you shoot uncropped in 4k 60?
Bmpcc6K is still a winner in my opinion. Thanks for sharing such useful info.
You bet!
I can't skip this one
Hope you enjoy it all ;)
Came here to find out if you could shoot open gate raw at 24p. Even though the answer was disappointing, that you for the thorough review!
Another Z6 advantage - HDMI out works while recording RAW. Probably due to reduced data from the camera (pixel skipped Raw).
HDMI from the ninja? You sure? Did you test it?
@@THEDPJOURNEY Yes, 100%. Using it all the time - feeding Connex mini tx on camera to a wireless monitor. Connex mini is an excellent wireless video system, by the way. Smallest/lightest tx. They were made for drones.
@@zengze1 lets not forget its half the price too lol
Shogun Inferno also captures ProRes Raw via SDI.
it does yes, but S1H doesn't have SDI out
8:10 I always thought shooting RAW negates the need to shoot in a log profile since you are recording sensor data and are able to "select" gamma in post. What am I missing? Thanks
You're right... V-Log is a Log conversion from Raw Data. check the second video which talks more in details about that here: th-cam.com/video/LlkiPWCUhik/w-d-xo.html
Thank you, indeed the second video cleared things up!
loved the fact that you pay attention to things like price. nice.

Hahahha... am flattered. Thanks
Thank You for such an informative video.
Pleasure.
Can you make a video testing the Braw on the S1H? 👍
Once I get my hands on it yes 👍
Hi🙏 let me ask u does Lumix S1H record ProRes Raw via Atomos Ninja V, right? If there is no Atomos Ninja V connected to Lumix S1H so it does not do? There is not typed on Specs of Lumix S1H & Atomos Ninja V that its records 12bit as well👀 what is reality?
Yes S1H records 12bit raw on the ATOMOS ninja v
Considering this is Nikon's first serious step into video, it says a lot that it is being compared to more dedicated video options even if it falls short of some features. I would hope that their next mirrorless camera addresses many of these shortcomings. I believe some can even be fixed with a firmware update.
Yup. It’s great they’re dipping their toes in the water of pro video. But they messed it up unfortunately. Let’s hope round 2 would be better
Again video is too good for YT. Great resource. What cage do you use for the S1H Links?
Thanks again buddy... here's the kit: kit.co/THE-DP-JOURNEY/s1h-prores-raw-kit
Great video. That BMPCC 6K looks amazing bang for buck in comparison (just a shame about the EF mount!)
Totally agree
Some of us (with Nikon legacy glass) started out with the Nikon/Atomos Filmaker’s Kit but Apple never really delivered on FCPX support for this camera… I’ve tried using the Sony Cin profile (since Nikon still uses the Sony video chip) but the “kludge” is underwhelming.
Very informative .... well done. Cheers.
Glad you enjoyed it
You are right there up with Gerald Undone....
The z6 is one third the price. Can you do a review of the Z6 ii with prores?
The Z6 has tons of issues when it comes to Prores actually. They messed it up basically
Great video! I was thinking of one of the GH cameras but the S1H is just so good. A really great camera that you can keep for a very long time I'm sure. BTW, what adapter did you use for your lens?
In that shoot I was using the MC-31 to hook PL lenses on it
@@THEDPJOURNEY Thank you! That's the exact one I have on my B&H wish list. It looks super nice.
What is also missing are the 48p modes which I use quite frequently.
Wondering why.
The incamera denoise may be not an issue anymore with firmware 2.0.
Noise reduction artifacts are supposed to be gone and the -1 setting for NR in V-Log should disable it entirely.
Curious to know about why you need 48 that 50 wouldn’t be good for actually?
Denoise will always be there in internal recording. FW2.0 will let you denoise less than before with the -1 option. But it’ll still denoise. RAW on the other hand will not denoise at all
@@THEDPJOURNEY shooting music videos and film at 24p and 48p is the perfect slow motion mode in that case.
Available internally and I'm using it all the time.
Yeah but shooting 50 instead of 48 have no drawbacks whatsoever. Not sure still why you prefer 48 over 50. Curious to better understand. I meant what “perfect” in 48 that’s not perfect in 50
Nice! How do you do the graphic animations and the virtual camera movements? Thanks.
Keynote
@@THEDPJOURNEY thanks, and the camera movements and depth of field effects?
Did they happen to say if it’ll some to the Shogun Inferno?
No they didn’t, I have a feeling they would.
Why do you need the AtomX SSD? My Samsung SSD works just fine as of now. Not sure if the RAW function will mess with that.
Youre' fine with that SSD as well... as long as it fits
@Seb I'm having high hopes that soon they will fix this. That's their Achilles' heel
Thank you so much for this video!!!! :D What lens/lenses would you recommend for the Panasonic S1H? I've been thinking of building and converting a set of vintage primes.
What will you be using? (I know you used the Sigma 18-35 a lot on your GH5 work)
24-70 and 50mm and 18-35 yes. The last one will work on super 35 mode which is the only mode to shoot 4k 60p.
The DP Journey how do you find the 24-70?
great video ! thank you for your help ! few Question :
1) can you confirm that a "normal" hdmi 2.0 cable with 18 gbps works fine for prores raw flux to ninja V )? (i was considering HDMI 2.1 but there are not thin or slim cables!)
2) is it true that prores raw recording requires extra power for ninja V to work ? how much time do a NP-F770 last in this case for example ?
1-The key here is 18Gbps, and it needs to be quality controlled. The one i posted there is the one i tested and it worked flawlessly. Not sure about others that are thicker. You gotta test them out
2-Power, I havent tested it or timed it properly, 770 would last maybe an hours?
How do you shoot the super smooth screen close up shots? They're amazing
I use the GH5 with the 12-35 lens, it have a very close focus distance. And Duabi stabilization
@@THEDPJOURNEY now wayyy what 😱
Amazing review as always!
Exceptional information presented in spectacular fashion, thank you for your wisdom.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks again for all the comments
Why do you say no HDMI out from the Ninja? We are talking about Ninja V, right? It has an HDMI out. Doesn't the output work in this scenario, or what?
As of now and with the current firmware version I have, it doesn't no. Maybe it would in future updates.

👉🏻Please ask Panasonic to bring ProRes RAW to the S1!! Thanks for the great video! I definitely see the hard work you put in. 🙂
So if I've saved up for an S1H, should I go for it or wait to hear more about the EOS R5? I need your expert opinion hhahah
wait to hear more about Sony A7S3 or A7S4 :P (probably announced in June)
This is a really nice video ! The Inferno too is compatible with ProRes RAW ;)
Only via SDI
@@THEDPJOURNEY Yes exactly :)
Is this raw from camera is 12bit LINEAR?
12 bit log... they didn’t officially the announce 16 but linear like Sony. Cuz it doesn’t matter one bit
@@THEDPJOURNEY found it www.sony-semicon.co.jp/products/common/pdf/IMX410CQK_Flyer.pdf
12 bit readout in almost all modes.
@@THEDPJOURNEY true true :). If we go into details only nerds will stay to watch. Again - great explanation video!

I would love it if they would bring this to the Shogun Inferno, if possible
Hopefully soon. Crossing fingers
The identifiable advantages of the Z6 are weight (1 pound lighter), and price (less than half that of the S1H). Also, many users feel that Nikon's skin rendition is superior to all others. Admittedly, this is subjective.
well again, I'm comparing here the ProRes RAW on each, not camera features.
After receiving two pushes back, I won't go into further detail. I'll just leave it that I disagree with you.
4CardsMan you’re just trying to defend your purchase. Nikons a dying company sorry man
doesn't it not make sense to say that it shoots "raw" and "v-log"? isn't log an embedded profile that a raw file would do away with completely?
It shoots raw, and FCPX converts it to V-Log gamma. Something that usually happens in the camera before it compresses it to h264
ZCam vs S1H ProRes RAW comp would be super useful
Let me check if I can do that
Which ssd i can use for record raw ? Is there a list ?
I left a link to all of them in the description. They're all fast enough anyway
@@THEDPJOURNEY But this list only says for 10-bit 4K RAW. This is now 5.9K 12-bit.I'm just wondering if my Western Digital Blue drive will cut it.
Ya legend!!!
Thanks man
Damn, no HDMI out while shooting RAW is a major problem.
Yeah... maybe this could be fixed in the future. Let's see
@Seb Nope... again might be fixed in future updates. But as of now, it's a no
GOOD NEWS.... they will fix it before the release! So yes we have HDMI out from the Ninja
The DP Journey hell yeah! Thanks for confirming
But then this video would need the title to be “which video specs when shooting raw is the best bang for your buck or good value for money”
Gotta love competition as it’s good times for prosumers/pros to have more options
Thanks Nomad fo the awesome answer
I would say the Z6 has a $2000 cheaper advantage ya?
Does that matter when it fails on so many fronts? On the other hand, BM6K wins on many fronts... hence it becomes an official competitor. But Z6 lost everywhere. Even if it’s for 1000$ it won’t matter. And I’m comparing RAW features here of course
YEESS haven‘t seen the videos yet but already excited? :)
Hope you enjoy!
@@THEDPJOURNEY Part 1 and 2 really gave me clarity as I own de ninja V and just purchased the S1H. Had more expectations from the RAW tbh but still a improvement I think. THANKs for the great review!

Shogun Inferno can already shoot prores RAW. Im assuming the only thing your recorder needs is HDMI 2.0, so I suggest it's highly likely it will work with S1H.
that's a test worth doing. also because I'm not sure if the Atomos recorders work with all cameras / output resolutions by default or they require firmware upgrade
inferno can only record RAW through SDI, not HDMI.
