Ask the doctor to check you’re b12 in blood work. See my b12 was low is great now they check my b12 said it’s back to normal my doctor said will just giving the the shot we’re it don’t get low again
Was diagnosed with B12 deficiency. Was offered the free jab - advised of the process over the start period. Knwe the B complex was near to useless for this as the pill form doesn't absorb well thru the gut. Did the $ums, and went for the liquid, sublingual form. First dose done in the retailers, & had noticeable fast reduction in pain from nerve damage. The current doseage is about 6 drops once a month, watching for colour changes in urine - excess will be excreted, and show as a bright Yellow urine. This diagnosis was at least two years back & no more problems from B12 deficiency.
I started eating beef liver and gained the most positive optimistic clear thinking, improved nail beds, motivation to workout (testosterone), became very goal focused, regulated rest and wake periods, and haven't looked back since. Highly recommended for b12/A deficiency.
I have pernicious anemia. Most GP's don't know half the stuff that Dr Sam covered in this presentation. (ie; folate as a co-factor) Kudos to her. Well done Dr Sam.
I love this video, especially the distinction made between the 4 forms of B12. I inject Hydroxo. I do, however, have a problem when people use the term "Folic Acid" in place of Folate, as if they are one in the same. They are NOT! Folic Acid is synthetic. It does not occur in nature and does not contain the methyl-group (CH3), necessary to methylate B12 with Methionine Synthase. This can place an unnecessary burden on the MTHFR enzyme, causing functional B12 deficiency. BTW, I did forward this video :)
That was very informative, Dr. Bailey. Thank you. The fact that the liver can store B12 for several years explains why vegans, who just transitioned from a mixed diet, don't experience any adverse side effects in the beginning. They have enough B12 on reserve to sustain them for awhile. They go through a "honeymoon" period, and it is only after years of being strictly on a vegan diet that many of them experience the side effects talked about here.
Recently had some health issues and am in the middle of a course of B12 jabs. It's nice to have a Doctor who gives me all the answers before I new the questions, because trying to get info from my GP is like pulling teeth :)
After coming down with 'a mystery virus' (as my doctor called it) at the start of the first NZ lockdown, I specifically asked my GP about taking Berocca long term for the fatigue that has plagued me for months after. The Berocca does boost my energy but I realise now after listening to Dr Sam that the B12 in Berocca is not a good one. Wish my doctor had told me when I asked! Thanks Dr Sam I will not take Berocca long term, I'll switch to a better form of getting B12.
Fermented foods yoghurt, bread, shoyu, miso, beer, contain B12 so it is possible to obtain B12 from a plant based diet. The B12 in animal sources but they are strongly chemically bonded and are not easily absorbed. I have been checked for B12 deficiency by my doctor a number of times and have never had a diagnosis of deficiency.
Hi Dr Sam - I'm getting caught up on some of your videos now and really appreciate your work on vitamins and minerals and potential deficiencies. As a vegetarian, I try to be aware of risk areas and appreciate your sharing of thoughts for people with special dietary needs. Wonderful work and thank you again! Great to see you doing so well and love being a follower! Hope you are having a great week.
Wow what an enjoyable video, with your comprehensible and clearly spoken words. I think you are great in putting out all these different subjects on video that are of interest to many people. Thanks, Bill
Hi Dr Sam. Not had chance to watch this video yet as I wanted to get in first with a comment. Thank you for your brilliant videos. Having only discovered you recently I’ve caught up on all your past Videos. You’re truly the best of your kind and the most honest & credible. Also have to add you’re bloody gorgeous. Your pleasure to watch. Keep up your great work. Xx
I read that Pernicious Anemia patients who’ve had their gallbladder removed can’t store Vitamin B12 because the lack the hepatic recirculating ability, which their gallbladder is essential for. So they need to make sure the get plenty so the don’t run down their stores and if they have injections the may have a need for more frequent shots as they quickly pee out everything they don’t use in a much quicker time than those with an intact gallbladder. I have a healthy gallbladder thank goodness, I do have PA though and it makes me very tired, weak, down if I leave it 3 months between shots, 7 weeks is much better for me. But everyone is different in their usage in how quickly their levels drop.
Hi Sam you're sweet. Love your videos and the way you deliver them. Thank you for unmasking some of this very important knowledge like B12 which I get a shot of every three months, I missed one this winter and fell into a very big hole by spring - after the shot I was right up on top again.
Hey Dr. Sam, thank you for all your informative and brave videos! I was wondering if at some point you could do a video about brain zaps (a withdrawal symptom), which develops after quitting certain types of anti-depressants and benzodiazepines. It is a very little understood and acknowledged symptom but is felt by millions and millions of patients world-wide. I’ve personally been suffering from them for half a year now after I quit taking Ativan, and it has been a nightmare. I feel you could do this under-appreciated topic justice. People need to know about it and how to potentially ease these horrible symptoms.
Been there. Luckily I don’t have the zaps anymore but the withdrawal from stopping the meds was horrific. Worst period of my life. I still have bad restless leg syndrome that started the second day (immediately!) after starting the med. Wish I could help you out, but I’m just commiserating!
Another cause for B12 deficiency (in particular when the person has a fast & great improvement by injections) is a condition in which the body has a lot of Peroxynitritie (ONOO-), a potent free radical that gets inactivated by Hydroxycobalamin. ONOO- affects cell membranes, mitochondria and more, leading to serious symptoms like exhausttion and permanent muscle aching. So, when ONOO-'s are present all your B12 will be gone. There are multiple causes for having ONOO-'s. The easiest to counter is Manganese deficiency (needed for SOD2 a.k.a. MnSOD, a natural anti-oxidant enzyme). It gets more difficult when ONOO-'s are produced due to a TetraHydroBiopterin-deficiency (a vitamin-like substance to be produced by the body itself). Sometimes Folate can help, or MethylFolate. Also other anti-oxidants help a bit, like Vit.E, Curcumin, Resveratrol, Green tea and many more
I take a shot of aloe vera in the morning with my vitamins because it’s said to help the body absorb B12 better in the body. Plus aloe vera has many other benefits as well. It’s definitely worth adding it to your morning vitamin routine.
I very much appreciate your videos. You've helped me understand many things. If my husband takes B vitamins or eats foods high in B vitamins he gets very depressed and grumpy. I wish I knew what causes this? I have a cousin that can't take them for the same reason.
Thanks Dr Sam, for me that raised the question of multi vitamins. Is it advisable to start a regime of multi vitamins and if so what are the best type/combination to take ? Keep up the good work.👍
I wonder if Dr Sam or Mark has any substantial info available about what nutrients , etc , that us ' aging endurance athletes ' most likely need ? Runner , 59 years old , 8 miles every other day , 7:40 pace , lotsa muscle soreness .
Bravo, again, Dr. Sam! Hopefully everyone watching this video owns a copy of Sam's book "Virus Mania", and the new book "Terrain Therapy". In March of 2020 I smelled a rat. After reading Virus Mania (first edition, before Sam added 200 pages and became co-author), my suspicions were confirmed.
Hi Dr. Sam - I am vitamin B deficient. I stopped getting my monthly shot when COVID started, (to avoid sickly people). I started taking Fulvic Acid one hour before taking my tablets & that seems to help absorption. would you please recommend quality vitamin B products? I don't think the brands I am using are working as they should. Thank you !
This was so informative! Thank you! I need to take a vitamin b12 supplement and increase the foods with it as well. However, in the past, it cause an acne breakout. Do you have advise on how to take it and prevent acne breakouts?
IMO the acne is simply the result of the body finally getting the tools it needs to begin eliminating some toxins. Acne is not a disease, but the result of a vital cellular cleansing process, working to prevent a serious malady. I would suggest some natural detox regimens like: "The Master Cleanser", saline laxatives, and saunas. Meanwhile, put up with the acne, and experiment with the B12's till your skin clears up.
@@kelhawk1 sounds very logical but it causes a bad cystic acne reaction which is really hard to deal with and is scarring, etc. (Thieves oil can help a bit with cysts though)
Best, no-nonsense B-12 explanation. I’m vegan, and took the chewable methylcobalamin tablets for years, daily, 500 to 1000 mcg (depending on availability when I bought it). My annual check up constantly showed normal B-12 level. Then I got complacent, and when the brand I normally get was not available, I skipped taking any B-12 for a few months, and guess what? Super fatigue, even balance issues. I did not make the connection at first, until next time I went for a check up and my primary care doctor urgently called my on my phone (very unusual) to tell me my B-12 level was dangerously low, and I needed to come in for shots (not simply taking tablets) right away! So yes, for real vegans (no meat, including no fish, and no dairy at all) you ABSOLUTELY need to take a daily B-12 supplement. No big deal, even the methylcobalamin (which costs more than the synthetic version) amounts to only $20 or $30 a year. A very modest investment to stay healthy.

I went through a few Vegan years when I was in my early 20's, I tended to live on Marmite sandwiches along with peanut butter so not especially healthy! Is yeast extract still considered to be a reasonable vegan source of B12? Then we get into the debate "is yeast extract totally vegetable or partly animal"... Yes I have heard that one :)
I am almost never sick, so i usually do not look at health videos. Sorry, I think you didn't say anything about the intrinsic factor in the stomach, that is responsible for the B12 to be absorbed. What causes it to become absent in the stomach?
thanks much for this dr sam. informative as ever. perhaps a recommendation for a future address: viral immune escape. Geert Vanden Bossche, DMV, PhD, independent virologist and vaccine expert, formerly employed at GAVI and The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has written an interesting open letter.
I know an elderly woman who was admitted to a psychiatric clinic with a diagnosis to be advised after assessment. She seemed demented and confused. Her bloods showed low b12. After b12 injections, she was normal within two weeks. Lesson learned?
