Where Do I MOT My Electric Car? UK Tesla MOT

  • At the start of 2021 I created Chargeheads to ELECTRIFY petrolheads essentially get more car enthusiasts into electric cars. An Electric Petrolhead if you like....A CHARGEHEAD!!!!
    To start I decided to do an EV conversion and went on an amazing journey visiting many of the big companies in this field.
    I selected the not so well known TVR Tasmin, AKA the Wedge (#TVRWedgee) to electrify after careful consideration of other cars. As I already had a TVR Griffith which I enjoyed driving and with my passion for raw, powerful, tail happy cars with no driver aids TVR was the obvious choice when selecting a car to electrify.
    The 2nd build I started was the #SpecialTrikee project a 1970's BSA Aerial 3 Tricycle Scooter that I am turning into a e-Trike I can use locally and ride around at shows. Mrs Chargehead calls it my special scooter.....that originally had a 50cc two stroke motor and has a "mis sold 250 watt motor" in it. This project wouldn't have got off the ground if it weren't for my mate Vinny, who also did my Integra DC2 turbo build in the naughties! www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3wPD...
    The Latest project is Rustee #RusteeTesla the Tesla build to make a Model 3 Long Range....well.....better! This build is on a budget and in keeping with the Chargeheads green credentials I am using used parts where possible to modify.
    I hope to not only entertain with ChargeheadsUK Channel and the #TVRWedgee, #SpecialTrikee and #RusteeTesla builds, but also to inspire watchers to create their own greener transport.
    With the help of leaders in their field like Ralph Hosier (Engineer, designer, builder of special vehicles, teacher, writer, TV presenter and trouble maker.
    Ralph teaches Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Training (IMI Techsafe), builds some amazing one off projects and most of all is a top bloke!
    He's the engineer behind #TVRWedgee the Electric TVR.
    Also Dr Nick Mason from ECO Classics and other EV specialists who are leading the field in electric transport.
    So let the fun begin......safely in a controlled environment using the right EV safety equipment! ;0)

    My 2006 citroen zsara picasso diesel 1.6 (65mpg) bought for £100 seven years ago , just passed test first time.... With 213k on clock well impressed... Citroen did good with this car.

      Wow, i used to sell these back in the naughties. Great to see you're getting the most out of this car. However, I am torn as Diesel fumes and oil extraction is really bad, however utilising whats already built and not taking any more raw materials out of the ground is good. Tricky one. When it pops you need to do a cheap EV conversion if its economical at that point. 🤔⚡🌿

    I used the one in Uckfield. I had to show the MoT tester various functions of the car so he could test my Model 3. Was surprised by their lack of experience

    Good shout out for Tesla considering it was out of warranty. All my EV's which are home built conversions and a Model 3 have been MOT'd in a Kwik Fit (Wigston) believe it or not. Always used to be the last place I would go but the guys there are simply great.

    I was wondering what differences there could possibly be in an MOT for an electric car compared to an ICE. None of your MOT failures were specific to an EV were they? I think any competent garage could have repaired those failures. Hevra are a God send when there is a problem with the electric propulsion side of things. Seems to me that ANY MOT centre can MOT an EV Hey, that was almost poetry.

      They can, however would you trust any garage with an EV?
