It’s important to know that Aegon did NOT want to be king. He was forced into it and now he’s playing the hand he’s been dealt. He knows he’s not suited for the throne, but he already tried running away, and that didn’t work.
Plus he literally wasnt prepared for it. His own king said it will never be him so why should he bother?

Would be extra sus for him to be walking around with an extra dude and missing the dog.
I feel so bad for Helaena. It was either choose one child or they both die alongside herself. What else was she supposed to do? The only thing she could do was take her surviving child while the two were distracted and get out of there as fast as she could. Even though it didn’t look like it, I could tell that she 100% felt emotion. She was just in shock from the horrifying moment.
Yeah people had issues with the changes here but the sort of muted/disassociated feeling worked really well imo there. Like, rather than having everything being fast pace, fast cuts, high octane, freaking out, the sort of slow sad numbness of it was visceral and scary in its own way.

It happens a little different in the books. Blood and Cheese break into the queen's bedroom and force her between which child die and they kill the other child. It is not known who hired them but it's assumed someone from team Black did it. Although there is a theory Aemond hired them so Aegon would be spurred into attacking.
She had a look on her face like she had dreamt this exact scenario happening and she knew she had to sacrifice one
Helaena was heavily dissociating and in shock, it was absolutely heartbreaking. I know a lot of people were expecting a bit more from b&c but I think they did a great job.
I definitely disagree respectfully, I missed Helaena's pure despair and begging for her sons life and trying to give her own so her sons could live, as well as Cheese's words for Maelor before they killed Jaehaerys :(

Haleana is so misunderstood when she's actually the one person to listen to when she speaks. She is definitely in her right mind, just operates at different frequency
Exactly for one she is a dragon dreamer, she has premonitions but she doesn't know what it means exactly until it's happening. She also is portrayed like a Neurodivergent person or someone on the Autism spectrum, they don't respond to stress or trauma in the way others would expect. Most people think of fight or flight as a response in a situation like that but there is also Freeze when you are frozen with fear and Fawn which is when you do exactly what you are told to do to avoid being harmed too or avoid conflict. She may have thought if she angered them or didn't do what they said they would kill all of them.
the queen didnt lie because its either your son gets killed or all 3 get killed, she made the right choice
Helaena was whispering “They only want the boy” earlier in the episode. When Blood and Cheese said they wanted a son she knew she would only be able to protect her daughter or risk losing them both.
she was also knitting the funeral shroud that her son was wearing in the second episode so she knew fully what was about to happen
criston is the worst kingsguard in history. this is the second time a targaryen prince was “harmed” on his watch.
In the books jaime calls him one of the best and the worst kinguards ever

What could she have done? She made sure at least one of her children survived rather than all thee of them getting killed.
What could she have done? Tell them she'll pay them double triple or more the amount than whoever is paying them to do this. They are having a conversation about the deal in front of her so she could've heard

she could have told people before it happened, She knew it was going to happen as she was knitting her sons funeral shroud when she first appeared in the first episode, so she was fully aware enough to prepare for his funeral before he even died.

Aemond and Daemon get passes from so many fans for being “badass” despite being crazy hothead murderers. Meanwhile someone like Allicent is more hated for… being jealous?

I mean, what chance of peace was there? Rhaenyra probably was just going to build up a larger alliance to pressure the greens into surrendering and if not, just kill them. Not to mention, Aemond's main weakspot, was the resentment for Lucerys who took his eye. So its hard to base his entire rule of over how he handled himself on the one main person he wanted vengeance over, not too mention it was not even intentional (he understood the weight of his actions, unlike some).
Aemond would literally be the worst king out of all these characters. The show is portraying Aegon is this incompetent buffoon, and while he certainly wasn't a good in king the book, he was far better for it than Aemond. Aemond is a complete idiot but Ryan Condal continues to whitewash him and portray him as someone that would make a far better king than Aegon when that's certainly not the truth.
@@vayne-he9yi So you mean, that Aemond is not as stupid as he is in the books, because he was whitewashed? I do think the writers are playing favorites, but they have changed Aegon, Alicent, Rhaenyra, Daemon, some for the better and some they made ten times worse.
WE BACK!! That scene with Jacaerys trying to keep it together in front of Rhaenyra was so emotional. Top quality acting!
Blood and Cheese was way more brutal in the books. When the assassins get to Helaena’s chambers they tie her and Alicent up. They ask Helaena to pick which of her sons they kill - the 6 year old Jaehaerys or 3 year old Maelor. Jaehaerys was the main target from the get go (not Aemond), they only gave her the illusion of a choice to torture her. When she refuses to pick they threathen her with r*aping her 6 year old daughter so she picks Maelor, hoping he’d be too young to understand what is happening. Blood then Whisperer into Maelor’s ear “You hear that boy? Your mama wants you dead” and strikes off the head of Jaehaerys instead.
Thanks for letting a non book reader like me know this info so this shows that team black is the real villain all along so I was right to pic team green all along

I'm pretty sure I will draw the wrath of some book readers on me with this, but the scene in the book how you are describing it sounds like brainless style overs substance.
You are telling me those two men - after being lucky enough to sneak into the red keep - bound and tortured Alicent and Helaena for hours without anyone interfering (even in this episode it feels very weird, that there are no guards at all) even though they were just paid to get a head? That doesn't make sense to me.
Why would they go out of their way to torture the women and risk getting caught, instead of just cutting one childrens head off and get the f out of there asap?
Martin just sounds like a fetishist at this point. I think he writes shit like this, cause he likes splatter but doesn't really care if it suits the scene or makes sense in the context. So sorry, but the show made this scene more realistic.

The show is unfortunately worse again.
Helaena is basically considered on the spectrum in the show vs the book. It’s too much going through her head. I think she’ll start to go through her grief next episode but phia Saban did a wonderful job with this. Her eyes, her muttering and her panic. I know people wanted her to scream but for this version of Helaena I thought it was fine.

I have several problems with this version of Blood and Cheese, but Phia's acting was was definitely not among them, she did fantastic!

Helaena essentially has magical foresight through her Dragon Dreams and given how accurate she’s been I think it’s safe to assume she already knew what was going to happen or at least had an idea. It kinda explains why she’s so detached with everything and everyone.

You think Blood and Cheese was bad here, it's even worse in the book. Apparently, one of the lines the GOT TV universe won't cross is showing a 4-year old get decapitated in front of Mommy.
In the book, Cheese tells the kid "Hear that little boy? Your mama wants you dead." So sadistic

They had to because of censorship laws. When it comes to the death of child characters, they aren't allowed to do much.
Helaena's reaction in that scene reminds me a lot of the royal-blooded Coordinate titan shifters from AoT. It's like something is pulling her string from the "beyond". Like, she was about to say "NO" but then proceeds to point at her son, as if something intercepted her mind.

funny enough the only childs of incest in the show rn are the two little green twins and both of Rhaenyras kids with Daemon
I mean everyone in the Targ-Velaryon family are kids of incest lol, even the Targtowers (their parents might not have been related but they still have siblings for grandparents, so)
Daemon and Viserys were both born of brother-sister incest
So are Daemon and Viserys (their father and mother were siblings) and also Rhaenyra (her mum was his father's cousin, double cousin in fact). But Rhaena and Baela are the daughters of Daemon and Laena which are second cousins as well and all of them descend from Jaehaerys and her sister-wife Alysanne.... so ALL OF THEM are children of incest.
Dogs are great rat catchers, they're still used for it today. Rats can be a problem for cats, but a small terrier will just murder them as fast as they can catch them. Tons of videos on youtube, if you're interested in seeing ratters work.

Helaena was already told they wouldn't leave without the boy; she tried bargaining and that didn't work. If Helaena tried to physically stop them or screamed, they would have killed her and probably killed her other child. You can see the conflict and terror on the actress' face, and as soon as they seize the boy she grabs her daughter and leaves. Honestly, she probably did the best she could have done to keep her other child alive.
Emma D’Arcy was amazing in this episode and they only spoke one line of dialogue: “I want Aemond Targaryen!” 👏

I don’t blame Helaena one bit she was in terror and totally shock and what else would she do. If she resisted she and both of her children would be dead. And at least she tried pointing to her son in hopes they would think it’s not the son but the daughter so that they would kill of the daughter instead which is still horrible. But yeah this show is so good and intense I just love it
In the books there was another son besides the twins, Helaena chose the younger son to protect the heir, but Blood said to the younger son "Your Mom want you dead." and then killed the older son.
I thought it made perfect sense If you check & you’re wrong you wake up the kids who probably start screaming… remember they gave her an option to keep her life & one of the kids

What was weird to me was that they just let her go away. I mean she could easily start screaming for guards right away when he escaped the room with other kid.
I love Game Of Thrones with a passion, and I love this show as well. However, I could not help but get hung up on the fact that Jacaerys hit puberty between these 2 seasons and looked way older than where the last season left off, but they still played it off as if only a couple days have passed. Just didn't work for me. Also, the Queen seems crazy, but she had a glimpse of the future. That's why she said she was scared of the rats. Because the rat trappers were what she was afraid of, knowing something terrible was going to happen.

Dogs were trained to hunt and catch rats. And that dudes a rat-catcher. So he brought the dog to keep up appearances and act like they were just working and hunting rats in the castle as usual. His job is cleaning out rats in the castle so people view him sort of like a janitor. Which is why they could walk around without being suspected.

Helaena already knew that her son was gonna die. She knew if shed pointed to the girl they would kill her first realise shes a girl then kill the boy anyway. They made her a "dreamer" in the show which basically means she sees visions. Thats why she reacted so weirdly. She knew it was gonna happen, no one tried to listen to her, so she felt helpless and knew there was nothing she could do about it. That would suck.

In the books Blood&Cheese is much different.
First off, Aemond is never mentioned to be the target, and Rhaenyra is not the one to incite the mission. Daemon sends Rhaenyra a letter from Harrenhal (in the books he is already there) that says-
“An eye for an eye, a son for a son. Lucerys shall be avenged”.
B&C sneak into the Tower of the Hand, which is not guarded as heavily as Maegor’s Holdfast, where Aemond was, and they head for Alicent’s chambers, who is getting ready for bed (Criston and her are not a thing in the book). Helaena and her three children (Jaehaerys, Jaehaera, and Maelor, who was not present in the show version) visit Alicent’s chambers each night before bed, and were just about to visit. When they get there, they find Alicent tied to the bed and her bedmaid strangled. Blood bars the door and Cheese takes Maelor and tells Helaena to choose which son of hers will die. Helaena pleads that they kill her instead but they refuse, siting- “An eye for an eye, a son for a son. A wife is not a son.”
Cheese tells her that if she does not choose then Blood will grape her daughter and they will kill everyone in the room. Eventually, Helaena chooses Maelor, her younger son. Maybe it was because she thought he would be too young to understand , or perhaps it was because the elder boy, Jaehaerys, was Aegon’s first born and heir. Cheese holds Maelor up and whispers to him-
“You hear that, little one, your momma wants you dead”.
In one clean motion, Blood strikes of the older boys-Jaehaerys’s-head, and the two take off with it. When the guards finally burst through the door, they find Helaena grasping her son’s headless body to her, mad with grief.
So yeah, Blood&Cheese is much more tame in the show.

I've seen some people say she's on the spectrum so I get that, but I still don't like how they did it
I’m pretty sure I’m on the spectrum (for many reason, and I need to get tested) and so are others. We don’t like how she was portrayed here.
@@leonardohenrique5172 I don't think it was her being on the spectrum. I think she was first planning on pointing out her daughter, hoping they would fall for that, then, second guessing herself, tried double bluffing, pointing out Jaehaerys, hoping they would take it for Jaehaera.
When they didn't fall for it, I think she was in shock, that's why she whispered "No." Then, realized the only thing she could do was get Jaehaera out of there.

She is staring at the empty lil' J's crib in the begining when she says she is afraid of the rats. Also Aegon is not showing an evil side yet - now that will change. Can't wait for next episode!

This civil war is the reason why later on in Targaryen history Maester Aemond said his father King Maekar realized that too many Targaryens is just as dangerous as too few.
I wish blood and cheese was a little more gruesome like the books but whatever. What I love though is the parallel with Helaena and her daughter walking the same path/ distance to her mother as in season 1 when Alicent made Rhaenyra walk to her chambers right after she gave birth to baby Joff. The blood trail of a son being born and another dying
I love how accurately the season is progressing just like the book.
the fact that this all began for Alicent because Otto convinced her that Rhaenyra would kill her sons for her claim, but now that it's began, its her sons that have killed one of Rhaenyra's, Helaena was in a dissociative state, along with that, Cheese said he would kill all of them if she didn't give them her son, she is simply out of reality, full fear, and simply reacting

In the book they say they didn't want to rape the child, or something similar, and I understood that they didn't want to touch them by checking who was Jaehaerys and who was Jaehaera. That's also why I guess Blood (the big guy) didn't want to check here. Which is crazy considering that you're gonna kill a fucking 6 yo anyways. Like where do you set the boundaries haha

See criston character makes no sense. He slept with rhaenerya and is angry and kills Laenor Velaryon’s lover and survives considering he did it in front of everyone in the wedding. He later on years after bullies the children of rhaenerya and Harwin in front of the king. He then agrees to cut the eye of one of her sons yet the king holds more power and disobeys him and only doesn’t do anything because daemon stoped him. Now he’s banging the queen who again is messing up his vows once again and still isn’t being punished by any of the royal family 🤔🤔
His vows have already been tarnished by Rhaenyra. I don’t think he cares about his vows anymore, he just does what he wants now. Thats why he especially hates Rhaenyra because he blames her for ruining his vows but not wanting to run off with him. He’s driven by his hatred of her which is why he’s so loyal to Alicent
I don't think he agreed to cut off Lucerys' eye. He was very hesitant to do so, if I remember correctly.
The fact he didn't face any consequences for killing Laenor's friend/lover though is pretty odd.
He didn't agree to take out his eye. He agreed to the Queen that he's pledged to her but "as her protector", but he answers to The King and The King alone.

Now that Aegon's son is dead, does Aemond become the next in line? That would be interesting seeing how he believes he'd be a better king. It would be another parallel between Aemond and Daemon. They're both second sons who are secretly plotting and escalating the war.

Aegon's wife, the queen, has dragon dreams and can see the future but is powerless to stop it. She knew her son would be murdered which is what she was referring to when she said she was afraid of rats. She also knew about the dragon coming through the floor at Aegons coronation.
If you read The Rise of the Dragon and Fire and Blood, you can see how this Targaryen civil war will turn out and what will happen to all the main characters if the writers dont change anything major. So dont read if you dont want spoilers. I've read it and I'm excited for this series.
If I'm not mistaken, in the books the assassins are a whole lot crueler. Again if I'm remembering what I've been told correctly, there were two sons and a daughter in the book instead of just a son and a daughter. The assassins wake the two sons up and bringing them (fully awake and understanding of what is happening) before their mother and have her pick which one will die and which one will live. The Queen chooses to sacrifice the younger one. The assassins then kill the oldest one, and say that for the rest of his life her son will now know that she chose his older brother over him. (If I'm remembering correctly)

if you think about the sequence of events. Larys noticed Alicent is banging Criston so he had all of her maids/servants replaced with his spies. To use the proof against her if she ever decides to turn against him. Alicent knows this so she feels unsafe by dismissing all of her maids during her bath. Then when it came time to banging her favorite boy toy, it's quite clear she had all the maids dismissed while Criston did the same for the guards since he was the lord commander of the kingsguard. Which would explain why everything was so deserted in the royal quarters with barely anyone (other than that snooping maid).
Of course Alicent will lose her shit but imagine Aegon's reaction if he ever found out how 2 gutter rats were able to sneak by because his mom wanted a late night booty call... This show is something else.
