I'll tell from experience (67 yrs), that taking these numerous testosterone supplements, that are available virtually everywhere these days, contributed mightily, over the course of over 15 yrs, to a rising PSA. I really had to dig on my own, to discover this link, that of course most urologists will never bring to their patients attention, as it contributes to the rise of one's PSA count. When one seeks radiation treatment for diagnosed prostate cancer, the first thing they do, is put you on testosterone inhibitor- why? because is contributes to the rise of the PSA, and thus the spread of the cancer. So why won't they tell you of this obvious link BEFORE one is diagnosed with prostate cancer? It'll harm business ! Fact.
Testosterone is ESSENTIAL for the growth of prostate cancer cells, but it's not associated with higher risk of prostate cancer (studies haven't shown such a relationship).
@@healthmakers... Well, I'm making that connection. Like most aging middle aged men, as testosterone declines, many (like myself) look to supplement with synthetic over the counter (think Nugenix GNC etc.) I took them off and on beginnig probably at 45 yrs. At 48 my PSA was 1.6. Over the next 10 yrs, again taking testosterone supplements off and on, my PSA rose tenfold. Despite this trajectory, none of the FOUR different urologists inquired as to whether or not I was ingesting testosterone supplements. Then, despite the alarming rate that my PSA was going up, no one suggested an MRI or even a biopsy. I had to insist on a biopsy, which came back negative. Then when enough time had passed for insurance to cover another biopsy, I again insisted on another biopsy. 12 plugs per biopsy I was told, and targeting areas that it most likely is to occur (see digital exam) and of course the second 12 plugs were not on top of any previous plugs. Again, after time enough had passed, I again insisted on another biopsy, so as to cover as much of the volume of my prostate. This time the biopsy came back 'pre-cancerous' for one of the plugs. Cool, we'll go back when enough required time has cleared and of course revisit that particular plug spot, and hit 11 or 12 more. Bingo- the precancerous plug had now been identified as cancer. Now what doc? Well he said the lab numbers (Gleason number) will determine the type and how fast it is expected to grow. Fortunately, I had an optimum number(s), and was told to just do 'watchful waiting'. Okay, so I obviously had been researching as much as I could, and understood the approach. But, as time went on, and I spoke with a few co-workers who both had successful prostatectomy's performed by a local surgeon, and were multiple years out from the procedure. This watchful waiting didn't agree with me, as I kept thinking the worst. So I made the dive, and had a prostatectomy successfully performed. (Oct '15) At my urologists insistence, he instructed me to tell my primary to test my PSA every six months, even though many insurance's (mine included) only cover one test a year. In Oct. '21, my primary overlooked having my PSA included in my six month labs. My next six month labs, would of course include the PSA he said- afterall, I had tested every six months for six years and my PSA reading was zero. Well, my March '22 (six month) labs came back showing a 1.6 PSA - whaaaaat? That's off the charts, especially given six years of zero-. I started thinking of course- did him overlooking my PSA test six months ago, make a difference. What would it have been then? .03, '05? Something smaller, and less jarring? We'll never know- right? So naturally he sends me to my urologist, who expresses concern of course, and tells me I'll need to start radiation- again, whaaaat? Isn't there something like a simple re-test just to ensure that the reading was not a mistake? neither my primary nor my urologist suggested that, and looking back, I should have gotten out of my comfort zone, and insisted on the retest- but I didn't. Went along with the medical specialist. I go next door to the radiologist and make my appointment. (yes, the urologist is an investor in the prostate radiation center) When at my initial appointment, the radiologist goes over my numbers , and suggests eight weeks of radiation (five days a week), and begin taking, (for a year) these testosterone suppressors- whaaaat? Yep, this was my prescription for treatment. I asked the radiologist about any scans before we would embark on treatment, and he mentioned the mid neck to mid thigh CT scan, to ensure that the cancer is still localized. Okay, I get that done- negative- great. Time to get the ball rolling, and I set up my initial appointment, which I guess is where they measure everything. Well, after taking the initial three pill dosage of the testosterone suppressors, I decide not to continue on that regiment, and also to forego (for the time being) the radiation treatments, and wait four months for my next PSA test, then go from there. I had already quit taking any testosterone supplements, after my first appointment with the radiologist, after he prescribed the testosterone suppressors- I figured that possibly the testosterone supplements were 'feeding' my increased PSA number. Well, finally my six month labs roll around, and my PSA is now 0. Whaaaat? Seriously- whaaat? What's going on? the incredible thing with me sitting there with my primary, going over my labs, and of course he has my chart, which included my last visit, where he referred me to my urologist, after a reading of 1.6. Incredibly he blows right over the PSA number, saying; "and this is where it should be" (zero). I said hold on doc- hello? remember me and my 1.6 six months ago? he says; "oh yea, are you doing treatment? A duh- funny that you might want to ask about this. So now, I'm perplexed- was the first PSA reading a bad one? Is this current one a bad one? Or did ceasing with the testosterone supplements do the trick? Funny how no one EVER mentioned the connection between testosterone supplementation and increased PSA levels. Maybe I never needed to get a prostatectomy. Incredibly, the thing that contributed to me passing (atleast initially) on jumping into the two prong treatment, was that the radiation center that my urologists office was connected to, was a stand alone business, and the location required a daily 20 mile roundtrip. I checked the biggest cancer treatment company in town, and they didn't use my insurance. They had like 20 locations in the valley (Las Vegas), and there was one, that I literally could walk to and from, for my treatment. By the way, the radiologist told me when he gave me my one month supply of testosterone suppressors, he said it was worth $5k. Again, whaaaat? As I said, I took the first dosage of three of them, (one a day after) then took no more. The company that handles them, calls me and tells me the cost- $2500. Whaaaat? yep, my insurance would cover almost $1800, while the balance I had to pay. Again, whaaaat? However, if I was destitute, (minimal income) the program would pick up my share. They checked my income and said; "you're in luck, your income qualifies you for $ assistance- won't cost me anything. Now, they said, we'll be sending you your second month supply. I was still a bit 'on the fence' in regards to what I was going to do, and since it didn't cost me anything, I received the second months supply a few weeks later. Christ, is there a market for these things on the street? (lol) They then contacted me three or so weeks later, to inquire about sending another month's supply, and that's when I said that I had decided not to continue (heck, I hadn't even started) taking them. Incredibly, I discovered, they billed my insurance for two more months, which my insurance was going to follishly pay, without checking with me to see if I'm still receiving them. If you want an example of fraud, I guess this might be it. If I don't take the time to contact my insurance and check on whether or not, the drug company was billinb them for more that the two bottles I had received, the insurance cuts loose with $3500 in payments to them, for two bottles they never sent me. Wow! This is my case, in a nutshell. (lol)
@@healthmakers... Tragic, only if I would have had an actual 1.6 PSA, and by foregoing radiation and the testosterone suppressors, atleast until another blood test that show d the 1.6 was legit, and even had increased during the interim four months between labs. Then I would have jumped in with both treatments, and who knows where that goes. Knock on wood though- won't get another PSA, which hopefully will verify the zero reading I had in in Sept. Testosterone supplementation is a big 'no. no' in middle age, regardless of whether one has had treatment or not. In hindsight, I'm convinced that back at 48 yrs of age, with a 1.6 PSA, had I discontinued taking over the counter testosterone supplement, my PSA would have stayed low, and my pursuit of a rising PSA for the ensuing 10 yrs, wouldn't have been needed, and my slow growing cancer that was finally discovered after four consecutive biopsies, wouldn't have even been on anybody's radar- I'd have died of old age before it would have come into play.

Studies have shown an association between high serum folate levels & prostate cancer. But the exact amount of folate intake that increases the risk of prostate cancer is not known.
@@healthmakers... The serum folate will do. I would also point out that it's then unlikely that supplementation alone is the cause of heightened folate uptake, B9 is water soluble and any excess is discarded by the (healthy) body before it even reaches the blood.
There are enough slight factual inexactitudes in this video to suggest it may have been underwritten by a pharmaceutical company. However, i would not recommend taking more than slightly over the minimum daily requirement of Folic Acid because cancer cells feed on that micronutrient.

This information is contradictory to almost everything I heard about broccoli and spinach, most experts say that Broccoli is anti cancerous
(lol)
@@remmymafia3889 So tragic... Multiple mistakes both in diagnosis and treatment in your case.
