  • How Tamsulosin (Flomax) is used for the treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) and how it reduces urinary frequency and increases urinary flow.
Tamsulosin-modified-release capsules 400 mcg are intended for urinary problems associated with the prostate gland. It can produce relaxation of the bladder neck, leading to relief of a few symptoms like urinary urgency and leaky urine. It can produce orthostatic hypotension, resulting in dizziness.

I've been taking Tamsulosin for about 9 years. Also had cataract surgery while on this medication. Aside from a couple of frustrating words from my opthamologist, I've had no problems with taking it.

I was on Tamsulosin for two years. Initially it was quite effective, but that quickly diminished and my frequency of wanting to pee, but actually passing little urine, increased progresively. An increase in my dosage by my doctor only gave a short respite, but noticeably caused a dramatic fall-off in my energy levels and a lot of consequential weight gain (200lb to nearly 245lb.) Ultimately, when my local UK National Health practice suggested a further increase in dosage rather than fund surgery, I went private and paid approx. £7,200-00 for laser surgery. Immediately my almost constant desire to pee completely disappeared and my urine flow was dramatically restored to normal , or even better. I also shed 20lb. in weight within a month and felt a massive restoration of my energy levels. Fifteen months later, I now weigh 185lb. ( a weight I haven't seen since giving up smoking in 2001 ) and, thanks to simple daily weight training, feel fitter and more energetic than I've felt in possibly twenty years.

Been using Tamsulosin for about a month. What I notice: (1) Tremendous mouth dryness in the morning (I take it before bed); (2) A drop in energy, leading to naps; (3) Most troubling, I feel as though my brain function is clouded, as though I'm getting stupid; increasing my HR at the gym doesn't seem to have as much benefit as it did before Tamsulosin. Have tried a couple weeks of Xymogen "Prostate FLO" (zinc,B6,cranberry extract, saw palmetto, beta sitosterol, pygeum) and there is definitely additional improvement. Going to go off Tamsulosin to see if the Xymogen product is good enough. It's obvious that zinc is key to prostate function, from everything I've read.

Thank you for this video. I started taking it in 2016, sometimes one a day in the morning, and if I need it, one at night. Now my regular doctor told me not to take any more of it at night, because too much, can be bad also. And because of other medical problem I take something for. The saw palmetto didn't help, it just made my hair grow more. I love the flo max and I don't know what I would do without it. 3 or 4 years ago, a doctor said that I have a very big prostate. Recently, 2 months ago my urologist said that my prostate was small. I'm very happy because I know that the improvement had something to do with my diet, I didn't know that just eating better could make such a big difference! When I told my doctor that I wanted an operation, so I didn't have to take medication anymore, he recommended the embolism procedure, but he said that I have to take the medication for the rest of my life. He said a major turp, procedure, or operation is not good for the small prostate. Maybe in a few years. Thank you.

Greetings. Were you taking Saw Palmetto simultaneously with Tamsulosin? I 've taking Tamsulosin for 6 weeks and I started to see good results, but the side effects are a little too much. for me I wonder if I can take Saw Palmetto with a lesser dosage of Tamsulosin. I don't take any other medication besides Tamsulosin. Thanks,

I really appreciate your video which has increased my knowledge about this medicine.
Well I have been using DUODART ( the same formula produced in Pakistan) for the last ten years. My son is also a doctor who is practising in Australia. I was thinking of going for an operation of my grown prostate but he advised me to carry on with the medication.
I'm 72 year old and the only problem faced is early ejaculation which is alright in this age.
So I will recommend all to go for the medication instead of operation. Thanks

I took that crap for 6 weeks, the first day I thought I was catching a bad cold, felt awful. After a few days I realized I wasn’t getting sick but was super tired and still felt bad . I worked but on the weekends I laid on the couch all day. Tired and sleepy. My urine stream was stronger but still had to pee every 20 minutes. Come to find out I had what the doctor called a Medium Lobe which was pushing up into my bladder. Blue Cross PPO insurance turned down the I-tind procedure because they said it was experimental. so now I’m in limbo waiting. I am not on the Tamsulosin anymore I would rather just deal with my issue a little longer that deal with the drug nonsense. After stopping the Tamsulosin 10 days later I was experiencing dizziness standing up or lying down. This really scared me. Then I read that was a side effect of stopping the drug. Ridiculous.

It gave me after day 3 terrible heatrush, itchiness around the eyes. Breathing became difficult. Semen became like water and hardly existing. Stomach was not happy either. Had a sore chest. So the doctor said to stop using it. 3 or 4 days later the syntoms where gone.

I was put on Tamsulosin nearly 5 weeks ago. The flow of urine and the retention of urine were affected almost immediately. However, until my body "adjusted" to this new medication I did start to notice bouts of light headedness/dizziness, some light nauseousness, and I even stumbled when walking 1 time. A adjustment to the various medications I was taking for high blood pressure alleviated those symptoms within days.
It may just be my lack of medical knowledge, but this video was somewhat technical for the average person with several unfamiliar abbreviations thrown into the mix. My best takeaway? What medication should NOT be used in conjunction with Flowmax.

It was interesting to listen about Tamuslosin from Easy Med. Thank you.I have been using Tamuslosin more than three years never had any problems. After 3 years I started having lost interest in sexual activities, dry orgasm, retrograde ejaculation even Viagra wasnt helpful. So I decided to stop taking Tamuslosin for a year. Now and my life is back to normal ,though having beer waking me up 4 times in night and stop that too. PSA level dropped from 4 to 3.5 and Gleason score is 3. I am 70 years now hopefully drag on my life for years to come. Some GPs are in UK reluctant understand or listen about retrograde ejaculation and not helpful. This is the sad part.

This is a tough drug. The big side effect? It will dry you up. Semen production, maybe you'll still have some but not much. Urologist will start you on this drug as soon as retention is seen. This is an ultra sound procedure of your bladder. It will measure the amount of urine. Then they ask you to piss. If you can't piss it all, they'll prescribe this drug, even though you tell them your flow is fine. My recommendation is to wait until it's absolutely necessary. (from experience). By the way, the drug does not decrease the size of the prostate, but rather allows it to relax.

I was prescribed this but could only take it before bed because it causes dizziness. But with insomnia I'm up in the night anyway, so i stopped using it
Then I found out that in men, zinc is most concentrated in the prostate gland, and many of us don't get enough zinc in our diets, leading to the enlargement. Just adding about a tablespoon of pumpkin seeds to my daily diet reversed the enlargement. My prostate is normal sized now.

Did you have an mri or ultrasound to determine the prostate size before starting the pumpkin seeds? Did you get another ultrasound that let you know that your prostate was normal? What was your prostate size before and after?

Same thing happened to me. I was naive and took Tamsulosin for years, lost my libido until recently I found out the side effect from taking the med. I decided to get on the Keto diet, lost 10 lbs in 2 weeks and tried stop taking Tamsulosin for a week to see if I could pee without pain. It works, for almost 3 months now I'm not taking the med anymore, and I can pee easier day by day. The urologist told me not to stop taking Tamsulosin but I ignored. I have been with 5 different urologists over the years and I did not get any help from them. So disappointed. I think I'm on the right track, my sex life is getting better.

I took it only once. It was incredibly effective as I slept through the night without having to wake up and urinate. I also had full flow. The problem was when I got out of bed in the morning, I was so dizzy that I had to hold on to the window sill or I would have fallen. I never took it again. And yet the dizziness continued every morning, just for a few minutes. I won’t tell you how many days I experienced the dizziness as you will think I’m exaggerating.
When I cut down about 90% of the sugar, wheat and dairy (my favourite foods) in my diet and started taking recommended vitamins, herbs and other supplements, my prostate shrank. I slept through the night. Full urine flow in a.m.
What works - pumpkin seeds or pumpkin seed butter, saw palmetto, zinc, beta sitosterols, stinging nettles, Lycopene, Graminex,Damiana leaves, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, milk thistle, pygeum, vitamin B complex and selenium.

Great video! Easily the most comprehensive look at Tamsulosin I've seen. Thanks! I've been taking Tamsulosin for about 6 months and it has really helped with urine flow. But it has really had an impact on my energy. I went from being able to walk 4 miles with no problem to having to stop and rest for five minutes every 1/4 mile while walking 1.5 miles. Additionally after I began taking it I noticed a gradually increase in tooth sensitivity. After a few months it got so bad I had trouble chewing meat. Not long after that the teeth on both sides of my lower jaw began to ache. I asked my dentist about this and he said he had no idea why this was happening. I recently posted a question about aching sensitive teeth on a user forum and 4 other people responded that they've had the same problem. Any idea why Tamsulosin is causing this? The PDR just says "tooth problems" occur but nothing more.

@@darylbeyersdorf7932 I just felt exhausted and had to stop and rest for a few minutes. Really hard to describe the actual feeling...it wasn't painful just very tiring. I went 4 days without tamsulosin and then shoveled a 25' lomg double driveway covered in 5" pf heavy wet snpw without taking a single rest. Difference between night and day. I am also having memory problems and just general brain fog issues.

    • @boatman222345
      @boatman222345 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Need to update this. Little by little my tooth sensitivity seems to be resolving itself. My teeth are still sensitive but the ache is gone. Energy wise while I still tend to tire when walking it's nowhere near as bad as it was initially. I had my first appointment with a new urologist yesterday and he said that my body seems to be adjusting to the tamsulosin. He added that he'd never encountered the tooth ache/sensitivity in a patient before but added that tamsulosin is know to sometimes effect blood flow in the jaw and that may be playing a role. Must say that the tamsulosin has had a very positive effect on my urination problem, there are days when the only time I have trouble urinating is when I first get up in the am with a full bladder.

Thanks for you detailed video! I'm 70 and was slowly noticing increasing BPH symptoms, but no impact on daily life.
Following a minor elbow surgery (with general anesthesia) now I'm wearing a "diaper" nightly as my bladder was evidently disabled by anesthesia leading to major retention/distension. One month after that surgery I had emergency catheter, left in me four days (horrible experience). Now taking Proscar, Flomax, with TURP procedure recommended soon. Doctors won't tell me if it's my damaged bladder or enlarged prostate (with median lobe blockage) that's the problem (or both). Flomax seems beneficial but I wonder if it also adversely affects my enlarged weakened bladder by relaxing it even more?
