My 2014 had the "hood gap" you showed here as well Tim. It's an easy fix just by loosening the hood brackets and readjusting them to your liking & it will close much better. Good video. 👍
@@TractorTimewithTim Ummm...it may make it more of a challenge, but I have faith in you 😉. A tip: To aid in unlatching the hood of my tractor I took a plastic rod appx. 1/4” dia. or just a bit smaller than the opening of the latch release and 1 1/2” long drilled a small hole in one end and put it on the ring with they key. Always with the tractor and might be a safety reminder to shut the tractor off before opening the hood.

Old video but what year should I try getting? I found a used 2017,2018, and 2020. Or just bite the bullet and get a 2022-2023. It’s going to be my first ever tractor and I’m going to be using it for yard work at my home. Small lot. And property maintenance for others. I need a belly mower. Unsure what attachments il need. I wanted used with as many attachments as possible to come with but they sell fast. I was thinking new so I had warranties but idk. Nearest Deere dealer is 21 miles away. Ls dealer is 30 mins away. New holland/mahindra dealer 2 miles away. Kabota 30 mins. I’m kinda set on a 1025R but open to what anyone may suggest being I plan on doing a good amount of work this summer and snow removal in the winter.
I would recommend buying new. Get the subsidized financing. Get loader. Don’t worry about other attachments at first…watch our vast library of videos and experiment with your tractor to learn what you need.
I love your videos man! You provide so much information and attention to detail to every thing that you cover it really helps and makes for a good informative video. I cant wait to get a sub compact tractor!
Hi Tim I have a 2018 1025R my hood is of a little bit not as bad as yours I both mine bran new. I see on a older video your 14 1025R you had a chrome elbow pushing the exhaust away from the front attachments just wondering where you got it. All of my front attachments are getting all black from the exhaust. I live in Vermont you never no what the weather brings up here. I like all of your videos. You do a great job with all your equipment. I want to buy a grapple for my tractor.
Given that the tractor is supposed to use various attachments, I am surprised there is no T channel in the frame for wires and hoses. I am not mechanically inclined but with the Kenworth W900L tractor we had some of the same issues. Thank goodness for zip ties and that slit tubing you were showing we used that for insulation and to prevent chafing. I do not know what it is called but I have seen it also used in commercial iring.
Tim, I also have a 2018 1025R and I noticed the same bolt has fallen out of yours. The bolt/washers/ spacer / flange nut that attaches the fuse panel to the machine. I also noticed you moved the bolt that was originally just in the bottom hole to the top hole. Its amazing on how many of these tractors that that one bolt seems to loosen up and fall out. Luckily for me when i removed the side panel everything except one washer and the flange nut was sitting there. I replaced these flange nuts with Nylock nuts and they haven't moved since.
I'm surprised deere ran the exhaust forward. Do you smell it often? My 955 jd exhausts directly left and I get to smell it fairly often. I wish it was vertical of out the back of the tractor.
When I purchased my 2018 1025r they mentioned that John Deere was coming out with their own 3rd function kit for the 2018s on. Does anybody know if there is an advantage to using JD’s? It it more streamlined?
From what i know about it is that it will be like the 3rd function on the bigger loaders where the valve is mounted to the tractor and you run hyd. lines out to the loader.
I can let you know next week when they complete mine... it will be incorporated into the new joy stick, out to the new Frontier AV20 F 53" root grapple bucket on my 2018 2025R
Could those pneumatic cylinders that support the hood be causing the hood to be deformed/ They'd still be applying a significant amount of pressure on the hood when it's closed. I've had similar problems on other items that used those cylinders.
How's she goin'? Lots of differences/changes. But are they all improvements? Oh well, they're there and they work, so all is good!! Thanks for posting and the detail was excellent!!!
Tim. I just had delivered my 2017 1025r tractor with a 2018 120r loader. (like 2 days ago) the Ag pro i purchased it from sight unseen left me with no manual, no service records and a very moldy seat. Any suggestions on any of these issues. The loader , I added since it was only a mower with a 60 inch mid deck for sale. The john deere dealer added the loader to it. I also need a suggestion about john deere paint. There are many areas that I would like to make new again. Several companies make jd green paint, but really looking for the best and cost efficient way. Thanks for your videos, Long time watcher of yours.
Hi Tim Having trouble starting my 1025R. Battery is good but starter motor makes a click noise and stops. Sometimes it starts especially after I tap the starter with a mallet. I assume I need to replace the starter but wanted to ask if you have any videos that address this issue or what your opinion might be?
It sounds like a starter issue. On other machines, we have sometimes been able to get it to "eventually' start by trying repeatedly. switch off/back on/start./ off/back on/start. Often it will eventually start. How many hours on this machine?
Mine is a 2018 from last May, and it also has the extra gap along the hood sides. Yours looks like MAYBE a bit more, but, hey, it's plastic. I fired mine up and at idle when cold the engine shakes a bit more, so I'm thinking that gap may be to prevent the hood from rattling against the sides. My mower deck height adjustment knob is not concentric to the dial around it, making it hard to get a good setting. Can't find anything out of place, and no way to center them together. Is yours this way also?
Tim, two presumptions. The steering column/pedestal is probably used on more than just the 1 series. Obviously it is most likely used on the 2025R. It was probably redesigned to enable it to be used on more than one model, which goes along with what you are saying “economy of scale”. Next, with regard to the baffles just aft of the radiator. I presume that is to help divert air out the side vents of the cowling, this was probably to get heat away from the operator and keep the engine cooler. I’m sure they still want some air to flow around the engine to carry possible fumes away. Just my take on it. Jeff
Hi Tim forgive me if somebody already posted this I have a sneaky suspicion that your hood and maybe side panels have been replaced my 2018 hood and side panels fit snugly together and I have the chrome tip on my hood which yours seems to be missing ???
Tim I had a house bunny that chewed through a lot of wires in our house and cost me a ton of money. That plastic wire conduit was not cheap, but it protected against that darn rabbit.

Remove the cover on the right side next to the seat and you will see a threaded rod with a pin block. remove the clip and turn the block in and that will let the 3 point hitch raise higher. hope that helps. I was going to send a pic but don't know how. Also you should get a hydraulic top link for your 3 point hitch, it makes a world of difference changing implements!
I'm curious how you like (not) the new 4WD lever being under the seat and where you have to reach down to engage. I believe your old "Johnny" had a lever that came up along next to the seat for easier use. I'm also curious if the lever from your old "johnny" would just bolt on the new tractor or if other things are in the way now.
@@TractorTimewithTim The reason I ask is I have been watching your channel for a bit now and because of it, I am taking delivery next week on a 2018 1025R TLBD. I told the salesman that TTWT has probably sold more 1025R's' than their store could ever sell, haha When I was trying it out I thought the placement of the 4WD lever must have been an afterthought due to its odd placement. Watching your older vids I saw that it was not always that way. Odd that they would try to save money on something that makes their product less user friendly. Such is life in the fast lane.
Tim in your video, on top of the engine I notice what appears to be studs sticking up from the top of the engine ... Similar to the ones that held the old style air cleaner bracket to the top of the engine ... I'm assuming Yamar didn't make any engine changes over the years??...
my 2016 has the gas strut to open the hood. and also has the grill latch...in addition it also has the heavy duty air cleaner mount on the engine. cant comment about under the footrest never had them off. and back to the hood, mine does not open as wide as the 2018 you have. i do think though that i would like to try the yellow side panel attachment fasteners.
Hi Tim. We know it here as Split Loom. you should always remove the Ground cable first from the battery. less chance of causing a spark, and if you have any electronics there would be no chance of damaging any part of it. you could also have went to the starter with your power wire instead of going all the way to the battery.
Tim that would be a great time I’m sure. I don’t have all kinds of attachments to show off but I have a definite love for our Johnnies and the amazing possibilities of what they can do.
@@TractorTimewithTim Yes you have a couple that are on my want list, Tiller and Post Hole digger. But alas, I have to save up for a cruise before I can save for those :(

At 6:31 the hyd line you pointed out it is the steering control diverter line. It supply's the the power steering with oil. The wire loom is protecting the fuel supply line and fuel return line.
I just picked up a 2014 1025r. The engine is stuck. Not sure about the history, aside from someone put something other than diesel in it. Only 400 hrs in good shape. I am going to start working on it tomorrow, found your channel and checking out more info on these cool little machines. So far I haven't seen any videos on engine removal, maybe I should make one.
I noticed that I was burning my left foot while mowing with my 2018, this didn’t happen with the loaner 2014. I removed the steel bracket behind the alternator and there was a lot less hot air blowing on my foot
Loom it’s called wire loom. Rubber grommets are great for when running wires through holes in frames or sheet metal and even plastic anything protecting from cutting or chafing.

I’ll add to the “wire loom”, they make a “high heat” wire loom indicated by a dull white line that runs the length of the loom. OEM vehicle wiring loom is usually high temp, exp under the hood and under the vehicle. High heat loom is much stiffer than the normal stuff. Ok, enough of that, back to your regular scheduled programming...

@@TractorTimewithTim Yeah, this is the first winter I recall moving snow at 10 below zero. Original Tractor Cab will probably be getting an order from me later this year!
I would suspect I would want a cab with those temps!
Tim, Did you adjust the 3 point hitch on the new 2018 tractor yet? I found an easy way to raise it with out losing the lower distance off the ground.
I have not
Remove the cover on the right side next to the seat and you will see a threaded rod with a pin block. remove the clip and turn the block in and that will let the 3 point hitch raise higher. hope that helps. I was going to send a pic but don't know how. Also you should get a hydraulic top link for your 3 point hitch, it makes a world of difference changing implements!
Same as my 2016 Tim.How much Difference is that 260b backhoe from 260 if you could Mount a seat on the 260 backhoe
Everything is different! Hoses are routed different, frame connection is different. Not interchangeable.
Your lighting was great!
Thanks!! Love the new lights!
I'm curious how you like (not) the new 4WD lever being under the seat and where you have to reach
down to engage. I believe your old "Johnny" had a lever that came up along next to the seat for easier
use. I'm also curious if the lever from your old "johnny" would just bolt on the new tractor or if other things
are in the way now.
The 4wd lever is definitely not as handy.
@@TractorTimewithTim The reason I ask is I have been watching your channel for a bit now and because of it, I am taking delivery next week on a 2018 1025R TLBD.
I told the salesman that TTWT has probably sold more 1025R's' than their store could ever sell, haha
When I was trying it out I thought the placement of the 4WD lever must have been an afterthought due to its odd placement.
Yes, those are the studs used for the 2014-2017 air cleaner disaster!
my 2016 has the gas strut to open the hood. and also has the grill latch...in addition it also has the heavy duty air cleaner mount on the engine. cant comment about under the footrest never had them off. and back to the hood, mine does not open as wide as the 2018 you have. i do think though that i would like to try the yellow side panel attachment fasteners.
+2 on the yellow fasteners. 👍
Look at the lights in that barn........looking good Tim, however I may be biased.........lol
Oh my! They work!
Hi Tim. We know it here as Split Loom. you should always remove the Ground cable first from the battery. less chance of causing a spark, and if you have any electronics there would be no chance of damaging any part of it. you could also have went to the starter with your power wire instead of going all the way to the battery.
I've always that tubing referred to as "Convoluted Tubing" in the dealer auto parts lists.
Tim, if you ever want to compare anything between the old style 1025R and the newer one, my 2017 is just across town from you.
Almost forgot, David. We still need to get together sometime!
Tim that would be a great time I’m sure. I don’t have all kinds of attachments to show off but I have a definite love for our Johnnies and the amazing possibilities of what they can do.
We can supply attachments!
@@TractorTimewithTim Yes you have a couple that are on my want list, Tiller and Post Hole digger. But alas, I have to save up for a cruise before I can save for those :(
Nice video Tim thanks
Great video. I'm surprised on all the changes. I have a 2015 and it has those little gas shocks on the hood.
I see u have the frount guard on yours also. My neighbor got a new one and his did to. I wonder if that is standard equipment now???? Also I moved my rear lights on the inside of the roll bar. Harder to break them lol. Enjoy your videos. Wasn't getting them for awhile didn't know wat had happened but back with u now. Thanks for all the great info and God bless
I had the exact same bolt fall out of the fuse box on my 2018 1025R (Little Mean Green).
I know it not a 1025R but I have a 2018 2025R and my floor is in 3 pieces which make it much easier to remove.
At 6:31 the hyd line you pointed out it is the steering control diverter line. It supply's the the power steering with oil.
The wire loom is protecting the fuel supply line and fuel return line.
My 2018 1025r has the same issue with the hood not fitting the body panels.
I haven’t needed to do anything serious with or in the engine. So, no ‘inside’ videos.
@TractorTimewithTim well I suppose that's a good thing. This was definitely a case of negligence. But I did get it for a steep discount
Wire loom tubing is all I've heard that stuff called!!!
I noticed that I was burning my left foot while mowing with my 2018, this didn’t happen with the loaner 2014. I removed the steel bracket behind the alternator and there was a lot less hot air blowing on my foot
Interesting!
Loom it’s called wire loom. Rubber grommets are great for when running wires through holes in frames or sheet metal and even plastic anything protecting from cutting or chafing.
does the 1025r use regular spade fuses or mini fuses
Great stuff Tim!
My 2016 has the pneumatic hood cylinders..so it was then or before. I still have the old latch and bolts to remove the side panels.
Tim, I knew the hoods were plastic but I didn't know the platform was plastic too. Are the rear fenders plastic also?
Yes.
Tim spring on the way pretty soon it gonna be 70"" and sunny 🌞🌞🌞🌱🌱🌱🌳🌲
Can't wait!!
Well done tim.are you planning to go to germany this fall for the agritechnika ?
My 2015 does not have the lift on the hood Tim
It wouldn't be a 50 HP 1025R. Instead it would be a 1050R. I think that would be awesome too.
we have a 23 hp boomer new holland but were planing up grading to a 62hp l6060
Well thought of a major hp and torque upgrade is entertaining. The poor transmission probably wouldn't last under a heavy load.
@@jaybee2344 deeres here in canada dont have compact tractors with 50hp only compact tractor here in canada is 50 hp kubota L4050 and 62hp kubota L6060
@@michaelmactavish1728 Thats cool. But I am sure the transmission was built to handle 50 hp too.
But I am not saying Deere can't build a higher power compact tractor. Its all about marketing it to a certain demo.
@@jaybee2344 i had a deere compact tractor for drive and it sounded like the piston getting ready to go in the engine wich not good for a $50,300 30hp deere compact tractor and try lift heavy the engine would die so tryed the kubota compact 62hp it worked nicely and smooth plus has a engine stall guard wich pervents engine stalling wich is a slick gadget
Looking good Tim some time the older one are better did Johnny ever sale ? and i bet you miss your old shed ! LOL it looked cold ! have a great week and God bless ! Kioti Curt :-)
Johnny did sell. At list price..no auction bid up. Oh well.
I DO miss my old shed.
I’ll let you know in 3 weeks. I bring my JD home. They have to order the snow thrower, 54 in deck, mid buster, hiller.
I use to own the 1020, might date myself a bit with that!
love your videos buddy
The 2016 version of that lawn mower looks to be much improved.
my hood on my 1025 is the same way. also my key and throttle lever plastic came off at 80 hrs .
other wise its a great machine I like a lot .
Do you like the 2018 better than your other one. I see they had your air cleaner done.
Air cleaner is that way from the factory as of mid 2018
@@TractorTimewithTim yes i must have bought a early 18 because i had to change it. But they gave me the kit to do it.
Tim I looked at a brand new one last week and the hood fit and finish looked the same.
Great job enjoyed that!!
I have a 2018 with the Mauser cab and the hood fits poorly on it also.
I'd be happy with a 1038R!
Sounds good. Where do I order?!!!
@@TractorTimewithTim every time I go to my JD dealer I mention the things I see or that they should change on the tractor to pass on to their JD rep. Never hurts to try, they might listen if enough people ask for something.
I think the pneumatic cylinders on the hood are what cause the poor fit. My 2016 hood fits the same way.
Well can easily take them off to test that idea
That’s what I think too, mine is the same way 2018
Look at that bright shop
WooHoo!
Keep er Green!
