dude, this right here is gold! the story came full circle. this is exactly how garrett met the keepers when he was a kid, same actions, same words and then he himself notices and smiles. that is so sick if you played all thief games. it connects everything and is just beautiful. and that new chick is the next generation. garrett will take her in and train her to be the new thief just like what happened to him.
It is a reference to the first Thief game. It begins with Garrett trying to steal from a keeper just as the child here and what the keeper says to Garrett is "You have talent. It's no easy thing to see a keeper, especially one who does not want to be seen."
Although I did not like this one quite as much as the first (about as much as the second, I guess) the ending is PERFECTION. Absolute perfection. Garrett has such subtle and wonderful growth throughout the trilogy. He starts as a misanthropic lone wolf who despises the Keepers, relationships, the Hammers, people. In the first game, he saves all of humanity. In the second, he clearly has feelings for Viktoria (and loses her), and in the third, he helps all of the factions he's always hated and ends up becoming a Keeper. It would make a great novel.
I'm huge thief game fan, have been since little kid, Most awesomed made scene at this very end this little girl almost pick pockets garret.**** '' you have talent its not a easy thing to see a keeper... expecialy one who does not wish to be seen ''**** That was like coolest words i heard in tire game series of thief!
Artemus found Garrett and took him as his apprentice keeper in the exact same way Garrett found the girl in this cutscene, the ending is a reference to the intro for the original Thief game.
I think the next game of thief would most likely be a co op game where Garrett and his new apprentice will work together in missions, where you can play either/or in different stages of the game and choose the route for each character. Garrett goes one way, and his apprentice the other way and you get to experience their encounters. Or possibly the game will just flow and you don't get to choose who to play, the story forces you to play the character to make the story the way they want it.
The way the three games fit together is perfect. First game you're fighting an insane Pagan deity. Second game you're fighting a breakaway Hammerite cult led by a narcissist with a God complex. Third game you're fighting against an ancient corrupted Keeper. All the main factions are at times allies and at times enemies.
garrett's appearance has changed a little through the games, cutscenes and covers, but I never envisaged him looking like a teenage emo-rock frontman with a side career as a snooker hustler
Yes you are right ..... Even in the first two games at times he looks like a grizzled man in his early middle years and other times and other times he looks like his you described his appearance in TDS
I think he's just acknowledged the irony of the situation. Hence the use of the same words as in the 1st Thief game. And in a sence yes.. he's accepted his status. But in my opinion he's the last keeper - with the only working glyph on his hand. All the other keepers have lost their purpose.
If I were to write a Thief 4 story, you'd play as the girl, with Garret being a grizzled old bastard handling her jobs and narrating through out in the same condescending way he's always done.. You'd still get Stephen Russel, but it'd be an expansion on the world of Thief. I know we love Garret, but if done right, you can make anyone a master thief.
@eminemlover141 no thief 3 continues from the first and second game... search on youtube "thief 1 cutscene 1" and you will understand the ending of this game
We'll cause it seems that after that what happened to all the three fractions it seems that something much more terrible will come Garrett began to saw this after Victorias & Karras death it's not over
Thief 3 was released in 2004,and we are in 2013, so its 9 years, they had to make something special, soon i will go in High School, and when Thief 3 was released i was in kindergarden...Thief 4 will be released but the question is when?Something special is coming i can see it....Well,lets just hope the God that Garret will be in Thief 4....
yes, indeed you gotta play Thief 1 and 2, u're gonna like the sequel more and gonna understand better the history between it, im 25 and i 1st met thief 1 at my 13's
The fuckers who made the sequel had a female protagonist ready and waiting to go,but they chose a reboot and messed the whole thing up. Garret could have been a mentor In the game to give it some legitimacy. I’d have happily 0layed a female character rather than the emo Garret we got.
But there is a big big difference between this ending and the beginning of thief the dark project. Artemus specifically said if he was willing to come in and learn the arts of the keepers. Garrett in this video, just said that she has talent, especially from a keeper who doesn't want to be seen. Thats it, He doesn't take her in as an apprentice or anything. Doesn't even ask her if she wants to learn the ways of the keepers. This just shows that there is a thief with talent out there besides Garr
@badgersex76 Because Eidos/Square Enix wants to milk a popular franchise. Regardless, Thief 3 ends in such a way that a premise for Thief 4 is plausible. Presumably, Garrett will be heading a newly rebuilt Keeper order. We may not even play as Garrett in Thief 4. It could be interesting... although its alarming that a studio with just about no connection to the original Looking Glass is making it.
Garrett isn't an actual keeper though, he left the keepers years ago but he still has the skills from their training. And what would the point of the END cutscene going into great depth of a simple possibility of a sequel, it keeps people guessing and leaves a wide scope for the sequel on which production hasnt even started.
Garret's glyph doesn't work. I think the point is that Garret was proved right, in the frist 2, the keepers were not pro-active. Garret never needed glyphs and he still kept the balance. He is the last of the old keepers, and the first of the new in my opinion.
But this encounter with young girl is promising for his future. He might lost his friend, but I believe, he found an apprentice... and maybe new friend
Thankfully, we're still playing as Garrett. But it's a reboot, so I'd assume that this is much before this. Hopefully, it takes place in the time between 1 and 2.
Its going to suck not hearing garretts awsome voise in the middle of the game if they make a thief 4, because if they make a thief 4 its going to be based of that girl.
@CognizantCheddar Considering the amazing work done on Deus Ex: Human Revolution, I'd say the next Thief will be great. It won't have the same effect as the first game (the stealth gameplay has been explored and copied countless times) but it'll be great.
lol, spared the point whilst keeping an eye on the max letters cap... sry. I think Dishonored is a great stealthy game, and many elements they used in this title are equaling those in the thief franchise. And i do think cuz Dishonored and Deus Ex were such great, successfull titles, there is a chance, theyre at least trying to make thief same as if not even better than those 2. Lot of speculation here, but not all hope is gone cuz there is still no proper information on T4
@badgersex76 Anyway, I do agree with you, Thief 3's ending is very, very appropriate as a 'final' ending. But money talks. And Eidos seems to have an agenda right now to lob softballs at their new Eidos Montreal studio -- that is, having them make new games for established franchises, e.g. Deus Ex and Thief -- instead of having the rookie studio try to create and establish their own new IPs.
Hate it when games are made with consoles in mind. And I doubt they will drastically change the game for the PC version. Maybe modders will fill the holes in this game.
so agree with top comment, it was perfect ending to start whole new story with new character, but rebooting series with Garrett who is not same Garrett... no
I wouldn't want this game to be a co op, it ruins the feel of the game, and it will just make it into a Jak and Daxter or splinter cell. The game was great, because you were alone, no one to run to. Garrett is a solo guy, he goes on his own and he would do so even if he has an apprentice. If he does have an apprentice, he would just let her survive on her own. He would bring her along, but he would not let his apprentice follow him so she can boost him up into a window, its not Garret's style.
That is not true. Many people who already worked on the previous 3 parts were working on the Game, tough most of them left several mont ago. Look at Dishonored for example, only 4 developers from the thief series, were working on the title : Audio artist, level designer, voice actor... and someone else! And only the Level designer had experience from all 3 Thief titles... That is why i believe the game is coming alon just fine, not just because i think SE and Eidos did a great job on Deus EX.
If I remember correctly, the team that worked on Thief 3 acknowledged Thief 2X with an item in the keeper compound as an easter egg - the golden scales.
Brilliant! While we're at it, we'll take a beloved technical action game franchise with a charismatic protagonist and reboot it into a graceless, shallow brawler with a petulant, swearing protagonist and the balls to take itself seriously.
I'd actually prefer playing the girl who became Garrett's apprentice than a new, rebooted Garrett who is totally not like the real Garrett we know and love... and playing as the girl would also easily explain why the new Thief world looks like late 19th century in architecture and clothing, because by the time she grows up the city might have changed significantly. But a rebooted Garrett? No. Definitely no.
What is the chronology of games? 1, 2 and 3? Or somehow else? Cause as I understood, time of T3 is after T2 because in one of Gamall`s book were written about Trickster and Metal Age. Some keepers were also talking about it.
''If I never see another Glyph again...it'll be too soon'' - one of the best lines to end any game ever. This ending was awesome.
Except for the one on his left hand. LMAO
I guess it's safe to say that the Keepers are going to really f*ck Gamall up for what she did.
Omg This comment is ancient dude
I love your videos
Never stop bro
A perfect end to a fantastic trilogy.
At least the reboot didn't tamper with the original story
@@Sacrocide it somewhat played with some references
“You have talent. It’s no easy thing to see a keeper, especially one who does not wish to be seen.”
Gotta love an ending that comes full circle.
dude, this right here is gold! the story came full circle. this is exactly how garrett met the keepers when he was a kid, same actions, same words and then he himself notices and smiles. that is so sick if you played all thief games. it connects everything and is just beautiful.
and that new chick is the next generation. garrett will take her in and train her to be the new thief just like what happened to him.
that mustve been the first time garretts seen the sunrise in years!
It is a reference to the first Thief game. It begins with Garrett trying to steal from a keeper just as the child here and what the keeper says to Garrett is "You have talent. It's no easy thing to see a keeper, especially one who does not want to be seen."
One of the finest video game endings of all time. A loving nod and goodbye to the fans of the series.
...And then they announced Thief 4. Oh well.
Although I did not like this one quite as much as the first (about as much as the second, I guess) the ending is PERFECTION. Absolute perfection. Same line and everything. Just perfect!

Could've been cool
Lol, lmao even
Such a great game and series. Too bad the final scene is lost on sooo many people who have never played thief 1 & 2.
The way the three games fit together is perfect. First game you're fighting an insane Pagan deity. Second game you're fighting a breakaway Hammerite cult led by a narcissist with a God complex. Third game you're fighting against an ancient corrupted Keeper. All the main factions are at times allies and at times enemies.
the character animation reminds me of DarkMatter2525
garrett's appearance has changed a little through the games, cutscenes and covers, but I never envisaged him looking like a teenage emo-rock frontman with a side career as a snooker hustler
Yes you are right ..... Even in the first two games at times he looks like a grizzled man in his early middle years and other times and other times he looks like his you described his appearance in TDS
Garrett is the head Keeper because all of the glyphs in the world vanished - save for one, on his left hand.
@MCToxzero No, the one publicity photo they released of Thief 4 shows that Garrett is still the protagonist.
history repeats itself
like Garett before her that young girl is in for a rough experience!
Some people try to convince themselves a character is a certain "thing" because they love that "thing", even though it might not be true.
It's a glyph. And it's shaped like a man with a shield.
Love the music! XD
& kept her limber enough to do anything short of standing up.
Or a reference to Thief 4 which is ebing developed for years now.
A masterpiece
I think he's just acknowledged the irony of the situation. Hence the use of the same words as in the 1st Thief game.

BTY Keepers the best.

Onward towards the future Garett.
Your right I checked.
I hope they don't screw w/ it too much!
Hmm. No golden eye at the end. Perhaps the glyphs regenerated his old one.
Thief 3 was released in 2004,and we are in 2013, so its 9 years, they had to make something special, soon i will go in High School, and when Thief 3 was released i was in kindergarden...Thief 4 will be released but the question is when?Something special is coming i can see it....Well,lets just hope the God that Garret will be in Thief 4....

absolutely gorgeous game.
THIEF 1 IS THE MASTERPIECE
The fuckers who made the sequel had a female protagonist ready and waiting to go,but they chose a reboot and messed the whole thing up. Garret could have been a mentor In the game to give it some legitimacy. I’d have happily 0layed a female character rather than the emo Garret we got.
Agreed

as the hammers always said " I SPY THEEE HAIR LONG THIEF"
Beware the shadows.
@badgersex76 I totally agree with you, but I would like to play more Thief games.
wat is it u dont get? the ending was so awesome and to see that garret was a keeper again was epic!!!
did anyone else notice the girl had one discolored eye too? thought that was weird
i just watched this cause i beat the game 5 minutes ago. lol :] so awesomeeee
I love this ending
yea it was revealed/confirmed on May 11th 09... Though it was confirmed, we have a long wait :( I hope they don't screw up the story....
@vanfanel150 have u seen animated series batman of the future? it was gothic, creepy, and it could be the setting for future thief-like game series.
Clearly he took control over the survivors
@badgersex76
Because Eidos/Square Enix wants to milk a popular franchise.

Garet gets himself an aprentice maybe?
Damn fine game.
Is it just me or does anyone else think that blue light going through the streets at 0:25 looks like a number 4
Thankfully, we're still playing as Garrett. But it's a reboot, so I'd assume that this is much before this. Hopefully, it takes place in the time between 1 and 2.
The fourth game takes place severel generations later. In 841 of the Northcrest years. The original trilogy took place in the 400s or 500s.
@KezDonnelly09 remeber in thief 2 in one of the cutscenes there was a lady reading glyphs and a child translating?
well the hag is the lady
Wrong. The hag is the translator kid
Well there are bird singing i suppose sunrise.
what if in theif 4 they flashed to the past back and forth like in assasins creed from modern to midieval?
i wonder if that girl at the end was Zaya? from Thief 2X
Great outro... ;-)
@aragorntheranger O wait, i was wrong! sorry he didn't just bad lightening in the game! the eye is still there
GREAT GAME. And music too (FX included :))
Its going to suck not hearing garretts awsome voise in the middle of the game if they make a thief 4, because if they make a thief 4 its going to be based of that girl.
@Androandroandrica i think she's saying, old, so old, all ruined.
I'm stuck in secret liberty, cant go out, game glitch..too bad....
Is the music at 3:15 in the OST
@CognizantCheddar Considering the amazing work done on Deus Ex: Human Revolution, I'd say the next Thief will be great. It won't have the same effect as the first game (the stealth gameplay has been explored and copied countless times) but it'll be great.

Such a good game. Microsoft release a downloadable Xbox Original of this to marketplace please.
Lol yeah that number probably means Thief 4..
Milk a good series for all it's worth. That's Eidos motto since they have...Tomb Raider.
@BENTHEMAN11 the eye should be glowing even in bad lighting haha...
@vanfanel150 Deus Ex? that was awesome :D
@goldtaills do you have something on your mind sick man?
The game is almost complete dude.
The ending is 'conclusive'? The ending to PSI-OPS was more conclusive than this. Besides, what fan wouldn't want to see more of Garrett?
@kubitts I guess your right, my bad
(I got to play thief 3 again)
I wouldn't want this game to be a co op, it ruins the feel of the game, and it will just make it into a Jak and Daxter or splinter cell. The game was great, because you were alone, no one to run to. shoulda kept his face in the shadows. more mysterious the better

wheres Garrett's mechanical eye in the last part of the cut-scene??? :O
no it isn't, it's unrelated to Garrett, the modders were working on thief 2x at the same time as thief 3 was developed and possibly even before that
If I remember correctly, the team that worked on Thief 3 acknowledged Thief 2X with an item in the keeper compound as an easter egg - the golden scales.
Who said that Garrett has an apprentice, Garrett just said that he has talent. Garrett doesn't care about nobody, nor will he ever.
@badgersex76 Thief 4 is official.
Go to Eidos website and you'll see it.
Cos its an awsome series and I want it never to end :P! But yeah, it'll be interesting to see how they carry it on.
dont worry
Does anyone know title of song in 3:14?
so garrett becomes a keeper?
@BENTHEMAN11 dude please can u explain further? when n how exactly?? can't believe i forgot that part!
he replaced it!
Brilliant! While we're at it, we'll take a beloved technical action game franchise with a charismatic protagonist and reboot it into a graceless, shallow brawler with a petulant, swearing protagonist and the balls to take itself seriously.

Try to get save game from the internet.
