Damn Andrew, I have been putting off painting my studio ceiling and in that amount of time you’ve pretty much dismantled and built several whole studios. I think I’ll get my brushes out today. Edit: I’d like to add I successfully painted my studio ceiling today, I did it but the inspiration to get it done happened here.
Great video! I had a little "yikes" moment about running a 100 foot snake. If you are using a 15 foot cables to connect the mic to the snake that's 115 foot cable from the mic to the preamp... yikes! A couple years ago I moved some preamps and an apogee converter to my drum room. I'm now running two 25 foot adat cables from the drum room to my apollo. The sound quality is night and day from running long mic cable runs.
Amazing video! It was incredible to watch the transformation from an empty box into a lively room filled with music. Thank you for all the information shared along the way!
As we start our Room build in our Nashville garage, so much of what we're doing is based on your legacy of videos. (And the legal victories of Lig Shaw on behalf of Studio owners in Music City.) Thanks fromThe Fret Farm.
How’s the bleed from the drums/amps cranked to the control room? Can you monitor with monitors or do you still need to use your headphones when folks are tracking these? Congrats on this (hopefully) permanent setup btw!! 🎉
I'm guessing he hasn't done any sound proofing so those drums are still going to be loud. A big concern would also be what neighbours hear outside the home.
Love the chandelier! My Mother-in-law gave me the wrought iron chandelier from the house my wife grew up in that was built in 1898, I rewired it and put Edison bulbs in it for my studio too.
I'm guessing noise bothering neighbours isn't an issue here? Or if it is how do you deal with that? I've always thought using a house as a studio would be cool but in the UK where i am would be near impossible without extensive soundproofing, even with a fully detached house (a lot of houses in the UK are terraced or semi detached.)
Hi Andrew! Curious what made you choose running analog snakes throughout the place as opposed to something like Dante. I was under the impression that signal degrades over certain cable lengths, and Dante would just give more flexibility in general, with less cables. You obviously know what you're doing and the place looks sick as hell, so I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on that. Thanks man!
Love seeing the transformation and can't wait to see how it all comes out. Felt like I need to give a little independent confirmation of how good those Black Panther stands are (and I'm not sponsored by them). I have the same 2 tier stand for a Nord and Sequential Pro 3. It is by far the best synth stand I've encountered. It is built like a tank and very expandable. Looking at getting a tray for a drum machine.
Can you talk about how you're controlling your main computer from the drum room over ethernet? Sorry if I've missed a video on that somewhere, but I'd love to hear about that.
Very very cool.... what was the thought process for running analog snake over such a long distance vs a solution such as Rednet? I'm sure the snake was far cheaper but I was just interested.
Hey Andrew great video mate. Just curious, where did you get your wall diffusers and ceiling clouds from? Can they be ordered on line. I’m putting in a small drum / recording room at my factory. Cheers, 🍻
Awesome... very nice converting you house. I thinking about building a studio separate from my house in the backyard, but after watching this I might just stick with what I have. I do have two bedrooms set up, snake through the attic, drum room in one and control room in other. I've been following you.. since you did a video with the warm audio with EQ for drums. I'm a drummer as well and I bought a few of those for my drums.. Keep up the good work.. great job.. I live in LA. Hope I get to meet you someday..
6:35 - 6:43 Great shots and sequence,- looks like something straight out of a suspense sequence from the Alien franchise. Seriously, though, when you take over the house for your entire Epic "Home" Studio could you give us a Grand Tour of the coming layout so we can follow the process already knowing what you´re aiming for as the finished result? Some Sketch Up 3D renderings, a 3D printed to scale model, your own design drawings,- basically the pre viz of the design and layout of the entire "home" studio - from your coming Andrew Masters Epic "Home " Projects Design branch of your undoubtably coming branching out franchise? Future looks bright. :) Love to the family.
Thank you for this video, Andrew. I would love to arrange a video call with you at some point. I’m currently in the beginning stages of trying to setup a good sounding studio in a grungy downstairs basement. It doesn’t have acoustic treatment up on the walls yet. I might also have some power supply issues in the space. Keep up the great content!
You're so lucky you're in the US. In Europe you would hardly find a house that doesn't need sound proofing and also a house that is sooooo easy to cut holes to the walls...Great video as always!
Wait... so you bought a new house that you're going to live in, and are converting the old house into a studio? Or you bought a new house and are converting multiple rooms in it into a studio?
Hey Scott - luckily we are really close with our neighbors and have been making noise with two drum sets for the last two and a half years. We are super lucky that they love that we’re making music over here.
@@itsstudiotime Love it, dood. That's an awesome feeling to have such great neighbors! Best of luck with the new "old" digs! Can't wait to see and hear the magic that happens!
Neat topic for a video series but as a longtime viewer it inspires the question of why? I've gathered that you and your wife bought a house and speculate that your lease on this place is still active so this became plan B when the other situation didn't work out. Why not go all Steve Albini and reset updtairs since you already had a layout and familiarity?
I would probably assume to not have people going up the stairs and down the stairs everytime. He may be thinking about comfort for people. I have studio that's very similar to this studio in Andrew's video but with one of my rooms upstairs and I often wonder if people hate going upstairs haha ....I love it I love keeping active in between takes taking some flights upstairs lol but maybe a studio needs to be as comforting as possible so idk why Andrew decided on that move. Hopefully he can get back to your questions because I would like to know as well. Lol
@@manuellujan5625 I know that is an issue for be, but the opposite. I had my house built with a 9 foot deep basement and I've lost a few clients - usually older, and one with a vertigo condition that just couldn't come down the stairs.
@PlottingTheDownfall yeah I totally totally get it. I actually am working on extending my lower floor rooms and converting a garage into my control room etc and only keeping my drum room upstairs and my Vocal and acoustic instruments soley downstairs so at least the ithe musicians can stay downstairs and not have to keep going up and down our stairs in between songs. I know it's a small detail, but for some people it's a deal breaker lol
@@joshstewart290on his other channel he has a couple videos where he was setting up in the new studios and then moved again to a 3rd setup. He said he had 2 studio moves in something like a 5 week period. That is the story I’m wondering about.
The attic sequence was just too cool - I had to make it dramatic.
Yeh, it was awesome! ❤
Can you do a vid on finding the right session drummer pls ?
Bro the attic space is so huge you need to open it up and get those tall ceilings!

Looooooved this video!!!! So crazy to see this transformation. I love the blue room the most. Makes me want to paint Jack's new studio that color too
Thanks! :)
I love the energy and creativity that you guys put into the world.
Love it! One of my goals is to convert a full house into a studio one day.

What's the paint color in the keyboard room called? That dark grey. Very dope!
I really enjoy these studio build videos. More please 👍🏻
Amazing ! Love this blue paint ! WHat's your "triple" / "arm" mic stand for your drum ?
It's a triad orbit master piece I built: th-cam.com/video/8eCPuSG1hvs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=KtFB7Mk-_rOpjUBA
Still loving your stuff, Andy! Quick question: what’s the purpose of that largish regular lattice we see behind the drummer?
What will you use the old vaulted ceiling room for now?

How does vocal recording sound in your room with the scatter plate?
What is the name of the grey paint colour you used in the keys/booth room?
Yeah looks great with the grey panels and floors.
Real nice Andrew! (What is it?)

I’m happy things worked out for you, this would be my dream lol.
You must have nice neighbours putting up with the drum noise.
This is what my wife and I were wondering as well
Running cable sequence sounds like an instrumental of “Sail” by AWOL Nation. Cool!
So cool and functionnal, great job Andrew...
How did you build the acoustic panels?
What are the panels that you stuck up on the walls in the drum room?
Manufacture name ?
Treatment designed and built by Music city acoustics. Their website is in the description, excellent panels.
Looks amazing!
What got you to use one of the rooms for the drums instead of the old studio space? could've been a very cool live room for drums!
That roof section was pure cinema 😂
Sometimes I get lost in the edit when I find a cool song
love these andrew! im a young musician from the uk abd love your videos.
Appreciate you!

Nevermind... I think I got it now lol
lol I’m just not clear I suppose. We live in a new house I just bought and I’m keeping the house we were living in, to use as a studio.
Can u explain more about the ethernet connections? How d u control the pc and how d u send monitors :)
you did a round trip hauling your gear around town. crazy, but at least you know the spaces better here :)
I wanna see a video on the second rig you are running in the blue room
thanks man, this video was super helpful.
Thanks for checking it out!
why do I feel like I watched this months ago and you had the rooms all done? lol

I really need those instruments 🙃
Jack is always the true star of the show.
We do need to get the story about moving out, setting up a new studio, then bugging out and moving somewhere else again? What’s up Andrew?
Yes please!!
I think we all want to hear this story but I don't think we're going to get it, for understandable reasons
I thought he said it at the start? Bought a new family house and was able to use the old house as a studio?
