Hey man all I want to say is, I’ve been watching you from the start when I wasn’t even thinking about a studio and didn’t even know what I was doing ,,but two years later, just from watching your videos and learning what to do ,,I’m in my own dream studio and can say thank you 🙏🙏🙏for what you do and keep on going. These videos help me and bunch of other people who want to start doing what you do. To this day I’m still learning and still watching your videos because the music industry and sounds will keep on changing. Thank you Andrew🎉🎉
Oh, I meant to say. Sometime, if you ever get a chance, a video on headphone distribution / monitoring systems would be much appreciated. It's not something I know anything about, but it's important when tracking full bands. And I notice a lot of studios seem to have similar kit (Behringer units maybe?).
Andrew, You have come a long way so congrats on your success and now such an incredible studio setup and your amazing channels that truly have inspired me and so many others so thanks!
i think the most insane thing about this setup is that you took the time to walk through all of this and put it out for free! such a wealth of information for the masses 🙏 bless you andrew
I only use a simple Zen Q, but loved every second of this video. I'll make sure to check out your consultations cause I'd love to pick your brain on your 500 series setups.
Still room for improvement, use Flock electronic patch-bay. That would add a lot of flexibility. And use of HW like Wesaudio for HW recall and control the HW both via plugin or directly on the HW.
Ey man, i have tell you that i was underrating your Knowkedge. I didnt realised that your a (dipl.) Engenier. And i dudnt realised that you could earn so mutch Experiences in your Job and your Research Now your Vids make a lot mire sense, and i can respect you a lot more. I am not proud about my Thinking. But sometimes whe are all more or less superficial. Sorry about that. I am a Fan now. I wish you all the Best
Hello! How do deal with automatization ? For example vocals thru compressor in the box to guarantee same level send on the compressor input, etc?.. thank you!
who wouldn't love a big fat stack of 1176s. Man, that makes wonders anywhere (and I've only used the virtual emulation, so I might fall in love twice if I get to use the real one)
So once you get the mix the way you want with outboard stuff you bus it all onto a master track that you then have to record in real time to get the final product which you then bounce ?
Andrew , you should get the flock audio patch I used to do it the way you are and there is annoying latency you have to compensate for - well at least I experienced that I would set up latency per channel, but it would drift all the time I have never looked back from the flock
Love the new set up man! I noticed you're not using as many of the Warm 1073 and Pultec clones as you were in the last set up, is that just a space thing, or did you sell them for some of the other gear? Would especially love to hear your thoughts about the pres you decided to keep for what instrument and why sometime!
I talk about the EQ thing at 16:45. I've gone through quite a variety of preamps over the years. I got rid of some of the warms after I got the console because I had 40+ preamps which was a bit overkill. I did some fun preamp shoot outs that I made videos on a while back that kind of informed what i'm using now.
Hey first of all very good video!! I´m wondering how you deal with recalling all the outboard gear? And what is your strategy for making multitracks or stems for external Atmos Mixing. Is there a function to commit the inserts so that you have a printed version in Pro Tools? All the best from Germany
Simplified version: The studio is not the exclusive revenue generator of my business but it is the heart of it. I own my own business and revenue comes from sessions (remote and in-person), digital products (drum sample pack, courses), consultations, as well as these youtube channels.
I'm curious what the actual sample latency is. There are no free lunches with ad/da conversion and there is actual latency each time it happens. Whether it's meaningful to the performer is marginal but I'm curious if you know. Each loop through the ad/da is adding the native latency of the each conversion which varies from brand to brand. Mostly it doesn't matter for single paths but anything in parallel can get pretty weird. I don't have any problem with the latency of the behringer p16 system but it definitely has audible latency compared to an all analog monitoring path when it comes to vocals.
You can always split the vocal mic signal in the booth and give the vocalist a little mixer so they can adjust their own levels without latency. For any other instrument AD/DA latency is negligible. Every foot of distance in air adds 1ms, so a guitar player might actually want a few ms of latency if his amp is usually a few feet away
Hey I love the video but I just don't understand how you do the whole "everything is ready to play" thing because I just can't imagine having plugged like 50 inputs at the same time and not get any noise. Do all the inputs have some kind of gate on them or how does it work because I can't imagine you don't get a ton of noise especially with the guitars and stuff. But great video tho keep it up
What he means by ready to go is everything is plugged in and ready to arm a track if needed. Not necessarily is inputted into a DAW already put its already plugged in into a input all you would have to do is open a track and put the correct input number and press record. You don't have to physically go grab a mic, then go grab a cable, then go plug into a channel and etc etc to get to the final record button. I know it doesn't sounds like that much work BUT it is lol having to re route channels and mics in a session even if its just 4 mics can sometimes last 20-30 minutes of time. That's allt of time in a recording session. So having everything ready to go is a big plus.
@@manuellujan5625 yeah thanks man I feel you but in the video he just picked up a guitar and could play it through the speakers, same with the synth. Did he just set it up beforehand?
No gates or anything. There's no noise, I don't keep my speakers at 100, so maybe that helps? I utilize the antelope audio control panel to have a control room mix for direct monitoring that's always set.
Can’t wait until you get back into visiting studios again Andrew would love to see you visit hip hop studios there’s some guys out there with really dope home studios
How did you deal with delay comp through outboard gear? I keep getting mixed info (from what I can find) that only the pro tools ultimate WITH Avid hardware (HDX) does automatic outboard delay comp. is this true? I have the apogee Studio Synergy core with PT studio but i'm getting outboard gear pretty soon and I'm wondering what you did to time align everything.

Sure thing
Yeah like what interface is gonna give me the loudest headphone output
that would be awesome! and also what you p-16 is routed to like 1-16 and what channels you have found is most useful having
Thanks for using my song “The Price” at 0:30 :)

A happy you dig it!
Glad you have your setup. You look happy to have a permanent place, after all that upheavel.
I only use a simple Zen Q, but loved every second of this video. I'll make sure to check out your consultations cause I'd love to pick your brain on your 500 series setups.
Beautiful set up! I love my ssl bus plus, grit that thang!
It's a fantastic piece!
can you do a tour of your whole studio?
Love the new setup man! Dream studio right there
Genius. Amazing what you have built.
you've built a dream, man! I've enjoyed watching you along the way (and I'm stealing what ideas I can LOL). 10Q for sharing!
This was great a split them. Thank you for this.
Love your channel. All very informative and helpful Thank you!
I appreciate it.
I just closed on my house and the first thing I did was start measuring and planning to turn the whole house into a studio.
That rules!
How about some example of songs/albums you have produced or engineered? That would be interesting.

Would be cool to see your current drum mixing template in a video sometime!

Interesting, I don't have any latency issues with this set up but cool to hear that helped!
Is the automatic delay compensation available over the TB host mode or is that just due to the digilink IO?

Hello, nice setup. Looks like you're ready to do some recording.
So I have a question?
Do I come here now for the studio tours or the old TH-cam site.
Thanks. The 'Andrew Masters' Channel is the home for studio tours now. This channel 'studio time' is gonna be everything else.
It would be interesting if you would do a video on the financial aspects of your studio.

Filming a new season currently! Believe it or not I never get invited or referred hip hop studios. I've had less than 2 ever reach out in 5 years.

welp...should've went 60 seconds more into the video....looks like apogee is doing that for you. :)
Antelope audio galaxy 32 - not apogee. But yes! haha
You were using the WA 73 pre’s for a long time. What made you switch to the API’s?
It just depends on what I'm recording, I still use 4 channels of the wa73s on keys, bass, and guitars.
If you ended up back in your old house, why did you move the studio so many times?
Yeah I just came from the basement video and now this..?
Curious as to why this is not setup for atmos?
My work is primarily front end production and tracking and then mixing but not atmos.
Damn, its so overwhelming to see all the stuff used nowadays to produce music, all those machines and devices
Question, are the barefoots worth it? I hear a lot of stories about them breaking.
I like this type of video where you explain the routing/setup thanks for the tips.
Guess it’s studio time
You don't need big set up in these days and still you can compete with those who have a big studio.
Very good
😅 LOL the ultimate question is which equipment starts right before the computer
I'm confused...this is where you have been the last month or so now?...other than when you were upstairs.
Yeah - it's a long uninteresting story. But this is where I work full-time now.
@@itsstudiotime With all the moves I was lost where and when you finally settled...glad it permanent now
I hope he has solar panels 😬
