One of the things that bothered me when BTS came over to the United States were the questions the media would ask them. Almost every American Journalist would ask, "What's the craziest thing a fan has done." And BTS would answer, "that we haven't done anything crazy and they would answer so respectfully towards ARMY. It drove them nuts that BTS would not fall into that trap. The other question by every journalist was; "Which American Artist would you like to Collab with?" The same questions over and over and over and over again. American Journalist do not like ARMY because ARMY shines a light on the misinformation that the Journalists post. ARMY will call them on their Shoddy journalism. BB even changed their rating system to make it harder for BTS to chart on Billboard Hot 100. They gave the dinosaur Radio more clout. Seriously Radio. This shows me that BB could be part of the corruption or choses to over look it.

Ah yes I remember all those things u mentioned. 💜 I watched a lot of interviews by another journalists/ shows outside of US, to be honest I love it more. No offence, but everytime they got interviewed in US, most of the time they always got a shallow, stupid, unimportant questions over n over again. Kinda dissapointed I must say

They just can't understand that a) BTS was never a boygroup and never attracted that kind of fans and b) the majority of ARMY (ca 74%) are actually 25 and over. Also ARMY has the biggest amount of LGBTQ+ fans as well as a diversity in gender. No other musical group or band (Western or Asian) can say that about their fandom.

Jin loves to eat during vlive, hence EAT JIN. Here in yhe PH fanbade of Kim Seokjin regularly holds EAT JIN CAMPAIGN, feeding street children. Most recent charity work was i think a week befote their 9th anniversary last june. Amazing. In my country alone fandoms already did hundreds of programs/charity works/campaigns under BTS or SOLO fandoms. But always will be conaidered ARMY Projects. 💜

A more recent example is when Megan Thee Stallion wanted to work with BTS but had to take her label to court to do so because they were against it. She ended up having to pay a $100,000 waiver to the company in order for her to do the collaboration. Both fandoms teamed up and raised the same amount and donated it to "Black Women for Wellness" and "Women for Afghan Women" in her name as a statement against her company.
Also, in my small country, Denmark, ARMY recently raised and donated $1,700 to our national Breast Cancer Research show/telethon. (Not personally taking credit here because that one went right over my project radar but as a survivor myself I'm very grateful to my fellow danish ARMYs. 💜)

I did not know that about Megan. Why did her agency not want to collab with BTS? Was there a hint (or a lot) of xenophobia involved? She needs to leave that label if she hasn't already. It would be funny if Hybe took her in.

They felt that BTS's and her images didn't match and it would hurt her carrier. My guess is they got stuck on the "typical boyband stereotype".
But they suck in general - it's not the first time she's taken them to court because she's caught in a crappy contract.

    • @robwebnoid5763
      @robwebnoid5763 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

@@imajinallthepurple ... Well, if that's correct, had her label done research on BTS first, they would have known that the guys are originally hiphop & that they rap. Does that not also sum up Megan's music genre & career? I am guessing the collab with BTS made her just a tiny bit bigger (ahem, double entendre) & a little more popular. I hope her label realized that afterwards. Good luck to her.

A lot of KPop fandoms are organized, it started with Shinwha back in the 1990s and their established Shinhwa Changjo fanbase. And then the second generation bands like Big Bang's VIP, SHINee's Shawol etc. followed. However from the start because BTS was so different from these shiny, streamlined boybands that followed a certain script (the good boy, the bad boy, the visual, the cute one etc.), ppl met 7 boys who followed that KPop script but only to a certain extent. They all behaved like bad boys and good boys, and all of them were cute and babies in a way. They were real and raw, and totally not streamlined and they showed it in their vlogs. They cried, they laughed too loudly, they showed they were crackheads, they were not perfect. Because of their vlogs they had already acquired a fanbase both nationally in Korea as well as overseas and in July 2013 they gave that fanbase the name we have today. But there is a difference that was made, they never split up the fandoms. Usually k-fandom groups are really protective of their status as 'being the OJs', the one and only true fanbase in Korea. ARMY was never like this. Sure, we have terms like kARMY for Korean Army but usually it is more like dividing the fandom based on how long you have been ARMY or how old you are. Our fandom joined together instead of dividing by country like so many other fandoms do. Also ARMY as a whole tries to stay away from fan wars. Usually in KPop fandoms of different groups pit against each other, trying to manipulate and harm competition creating the so-called antis. Best example EXO's fandom called Exo-L, created in 2014 (2 whole years AFTER their debut) they went after BTS and ARMY like crazy because BTS were the immediate competitors.
KPop fandom is crazy, esp. with all the different fans within those, the sasaeng (stalkers), the akgaes which are basically fans of just one member of a group and hate the rest (yep totally gaga!!!), then the solo stans which are just a step up from the akgaes, the antis, the mantis ... the list goes on.
Only recently with the increase of popularity around the world, did ARMY get a bit more toxic. But as with the group having their very well deserved break to explore their solo projects, these 'fans' will go to greener pastures and good riddance to that.
However, ARMY can be a pain in the butt if we see our guys disrespected. We are nice and sweet, but make fun of BTS or badmouth them and we descent like hell fire.

...I was one of those early 2017 radio requesters and lemme tell you it was WILD...we got lied to, hung up on, CUSSED OUT-by DJs!. I got told by a station in GA that "this is America-we don't play ching-chong music on this station." It was hard work. One dj asked for phone requests and when a bunch of us complied she complained ON-AIR about the "bots" blowing up her phone line, then asked for 1k follows for the station before she would spin. Another dj in SC took our request and said he'd spin-I think it was Fire we were testing with?-the song before his shift was done. We all gathered and listened for two hours while he put us off, then promised that since he didn't get to it, he'd leave a note asking the 8 o' clock DJ to do it. The "8 o' clock dj"? A syndicated show out of Pittsburgh.
It was rough going in those early days. The lack of respect, the RACISM was absolutely appalling and really eye-opening.

@@JimGames I could tell you some war stories about May 2017-August 2018. Like how we figured out BBs formula needed US sales so we called, tweeted and emailed purchasing teams for stores like Walmart, Best Buy & Target and begged them to contact BH about stocking albums in US stores so we could buy albums that would count towards charting...it worked. We developed methods for estimating streaming goals. We developed regional fanbases to organize radio efforts. We sent treats & flowers to DJs that DID honor our requests. Early on before DNA dropped, we "tested" stations by requesting songs like Fire or BS&T; we monitored every request for a spin and mapped them on virtual pin maps-people were working ridiculous hours. We did full time jobs and came home and put in another 8-10 hours on BTS stuff. And not just a handful of people. DOZENS and DOZENS of US ARMYs worked their butts off organizing things and hundreds of others participated. We learned to use radio industry tools like mediabase & Rate The Music to monitor which stations added BTS to their rotations and how many times it was spun. I think you'd find that most ARMYs from that time have an unusual grasp on how the industry works...we even studied books on the music industry, how it functions, how its structured and how bands should market themselves. We collected thousands of dollars to put up electronic billboard ads in various cities like LA, Chicago & Nashville. Some people made 'business' cards to leave around their towns. It was something else. And it was all ARMY. We thought the U.S. needed what BTS had to offer, so we went for it.

The connection in all of us(and honestly in humanity)? To put it in one phrase? "The light within us" !We all have it and it's not difficult to use it by showing it!Practically ? Being "pharos"(lighthouse) projecting the kindness of our hurts and souls ,giving our positive emotions to take the lead such as hope, compassion, patience, care, understanding! And of course love! All of these words and concepts exists in their lyrics as the significant phrase "Its OK not to be OK " .Maybe some people don't realize all this ,but the amount of people that were on verge or already on depression and anxiety finding BTS(shows, music, lyrics,Vlives e.t.c) and connecting with the fandom got the boost they needed to get help or self-improvement working through and succeed to overcome their life's struggles and difficult situations! There are so many stories that people shared all these years!
    Now isn't this miraculous?

ARMY has also been ridiculed for pushing numbers high, such as views & likes on TH-cam, or for music charts like Billboard or AMA. Or perhaps KPop fans in general, not just BTS fans, for increasing chart numbers. But that again goes back to the passionate thing that Jim & xCeleste are already aware of. We in ARMY perhaps are more organized & just know how to push buttons better than other fanbases. A celebrity is not "celebrated" if it weren't for their fans (short for "fanatics") & thus not a celebrity at all. In the western music world, for example, had Black Sabbath had zero fans -- zilch, nada -- they would have quit right away, for it is the fans that primarily generate income for the artists, & there would probably then be no metal music today, or at least the variation we have in our timeline/reality. The same goes with Chuck Berry, Frank Sinatra, Elvis, Beatles, Michael Jackson, Van Halen, etc. All of them contributed to the Butterfly Effect to what we listen to now, because they influenced music & the generations of bands/artists that came after them. KPop itself would not have existed (and thus no BTS) because it is based off western music, had any of those modern western artists aforementioned had zero fans. Sinatra, et al, would be nobodies & not legends we now know in western history if they had no fans at all, or so tiny a fanbase that they did not make any dent. BTS themselves know that they would have died off in their first year if they had no passionate dedicated fans, especially when BigHit was a small struggling company back then. And because of the huge population of ARMY today (around 30-50 million souls), they have made a huge positive dent not only in music history but also philanthropically. But it's not over, yet as there is more "yet to come".

Billboard changed the Hot 100 calculating regulations this year. Now the radio play portions is taking a bigger part than before and shortened the streaming portion to be on Hot 100. Last year they got rid of the Top Social Artist catagory after BTS keep winning 5 times in a row.
Why do you think they are doing that? Previously, BTS even got to Hot 100, #1 with a Korean song result of just streaming and album (song) purchasing without any radio spins. They are making it even more difficult for BTS to be on top again. Even with their English songs, radios only played minimum. Armys are still encountering difficult battles in the western market no matter how big of a fandom we are.

Album sales could be infinitely higher if for various parts of the world it were as practical as it is for the US, for example. I'm from Brazil, and apart from the currency conversion, buying albums is something we try to do very carefully, because it's money that is not easy to save. But we really want to be able to have an album. A lot of people don't buy because they don't have the means to make a direct purchase and depend on twitter stores and that can be quite risky. Also, shipping is usually more expensive than the album itself, and the chances of being taxed can be high (at 60%, sometimes much more; I paid almost the full amount of BE deluxe in fees 😵). Still I believe that we have a good flow of purchases of BTS albums. Other products as well, and I think that among them one of those that sold a lot was the DVD of the São Paulo concert in 2019. We really freaked out with the DVD announcement, because each show of the boys here is always amazing. In fact, I leave a suggestion of react of some song in the show here in 2019. It shouldn't be difficult to find a b-army fluent in English (which I'm not) willing to help with the curation.
