The K5 mill is a winner; it has a following, real world performance and reliability. Let’s hope Suzuki nestles it in a comfy platform that snuggles into a niche that other manufacturers have missed. That said: To shaft, or not to shaft, is the question. If “long distance” is really the target, shaft will be key to both marketing and perceived practicality. If it doesn’t have a shaft (and I’m not a committed shafty guy) it will sell flaccidly, unfortunately, like most performance Suzuki motorcycles. Then again, maybe flaccid sales complements Suzuki’s production capacity, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing?

Yeah I've got the gsx s750 and want to get a sports tourer next, I really like the 1000f but just cant get on with the styling and lack of pillion, so currently considering a ninja 1000. I'm really hoping suzuki pull out something special with the 1000t. After my experience with the gsx s750 I'd gladly get another k5 engine over anything else.

The Ninja 1000 SX is my weapon of choice. Bloody good value for money and rides like a magic carpet.
Test rode the Tracer 9 GT and the wind noise was bad, also didn’t like the dash very much either, it was hard to read and get lots of reflection from your own torso area.

Niken - tried it, not enough power and big
S1000XR - had it, no character and sound
H2SX - had it, uncomfortable sitting position for not tall riders (touring) and heavy for every day bike
Multistrada - didn't try/have it (personally questioning reliability and the price is high)
Versys - didn't try it (people say it's less sporty but more touring made with riding feeling less sporty than XR)
R1250 - didn't try it but my father has older version (not practical for every day city ride, heavy but beautiful for touring)
1290GT - tried it, liked it but many users mention reliability issues (mainly electronics)
900GT - didn't try nor sat but looks nice in person
Ninja 1000 - had previous version and liked it very much (unfortunately new version lost the soul by having two iconic exhausts removed and looks less sporty but more elegant in my book)
Tracer 900GT - didn't have it but sat on it (will do a test ride cause i trust Yamaha a lot)
Just my thoughts on those bikes. Have a nice day. 🖐️

I’m in the market for a new bike that can tour in comfort with a pillion, and take advantage of the tight, twisty roads in and around Picos, Spain.
Coming from the Africa Twin Adventure Sports suffering with wind buffeting, I’ll never touch another bike which suffers a hint of wind buffeting because it’s extremely tiring on longer rides and no matter how many aftermarket screens, deflectors and brackets I tried, I couldn’t completely cure the wind buffeting.
So far I’ve tested BMW S1000XR (too vibey for my pillion), R1250GS (too boring and hint of wind buffeting), R1250RS (beautifully balanced but my legs were sore after a short hour or two in the saddle), R1250RT (the best so far, but a big bike with a huge price tag).
I’ve shyed away from testing the new Africa Twin as Simon Hargreaves (motorcycle journalist) stated that the new bike still suffers from the old bikes wind buffeting issues.
I’m yet to test the Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX and have heard many good things about it.

People love it, and want to take pics with it. They ask me tons of questions about it's. I recently took it from San Francisco to LA and Back, 800 miles. The ride was so comfortable I almost fell asleep. LoL. The only criticism that I have is that it's a little under powered when I have the lady on the back. If they put the MT10 engine in it, 1000cc+, and a bigger gas tank. It would be perfect for a passenger. I love it my Niken GT.

own a 9gt for 2 months now and ridden little over 2100km. It started out well, but by now I'm starting to get really annoyed with it. For me, 6ft something and 220lbs, the windbuffeting is really terrible (allready changed the screen, but not convinced that is that much better). The seat is horrible (that slope on the back end is really killing my euh back end). The motor is a gem nevertheless and fuel consumption is extraordenary, to name a few good things. But, the thing I hate most is the fact that I just cannot get to grips with the front end, it's so vague and tires slide so fast. Testrode a ninja 1000sx last week, and...what an eye opener, I fell in love with the front end in seconds, and the seat, while hard has just the right format for me. Only thing I got to do now, is get the s1000r out of my mind (I know, it's a different type of bike altogether) and look for a ninja.

As an only bike, the 9 GT is the one, and at least the two non-SC Kaws are extremely close. For long touring, I'd be skeptical about the Europeans going the distance without a trip to the dealer once in a while. It'll probably come down to how *you* fit on the pegs and seat, and behind the windscreen. All really amazing.

Not a fan of the Tracer 9gt. Bargain basement brakes, lines of the bike are way off and odd looking, tft screen is a joke literally, info on gauges small and hard to see, tech is already dated and it’s a new model, discontinued last version after only two years, no sat nav or navigation of any kind in any trim, cheap controls, cheap and odd looking hard cases, boring color options, cheap looking fit and finish and msrp is way to high for a middle weight non premium motorcycle. I wouldn’t be surprised if this “perfect” interaction of the tracer 900 gt is trashed for another perfect model with a sensible tft screen, brakes that match the engine performance, hard cases that don’t look like Bell helmets, and lines that don’t look like they combined two separate bikes together.

The Ninja 1000sx is a wonderfully well-rounded machine, but suffers from two notable flaws for touring:

That was a very anticlimactic end. Best Sport Tourer GT is my very own Superduke GT. Sports bike when you want and also an intercontinental continental ballistic missile when you stick a panniers and a top box on it. Pluss great fuel economy when you don't use roads like your private race track😋 That is a proper GT.

Given the overall importance of the look of the dual screens, it pales in comparison to the rest of the brilliance the bike brings. It's hard to believe that would keep anyone from actually buying one. I think it could've been designed with quite a bit more maturity, but who cares?

I had the 2019 Tracer 900GT and moved on to the KTM 1290GT. The Yamaha is no match for the KTM in terms of power, torque, handling, load capacity, TFT display, smoothness of the throttle (fueling), brakes, and finally wind protection. The new Tracer 9 although improved in a few areas also suffers from “over engineering” in the form of the new duel 3.5” TFT displays. A truly terrible design that places form over function. Harder to see the data and yet it biggest flaw may very well be discovered when the rider sees the face and big nose that is looking back at them from this hideous design of a dash. What were they thinking! Once you SEE it, it will never satisfy.

    • @RyanJamesODonnell
      @RyanJamesODonnell 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

If the biggest flaw of the bike is that the dash kind of looks like a face, I think people will be pretty happy with the bike! But I would also hope the 1290GT was better in all areas when the base model is £7k more expensive than the base tracer and still over £5k more than the GT 😅

Just in case you're watching this months later, all these bikes are great ... except the winner. Dreadful wind protection with headache inducing turbulance, terrible fit and finish with most components looking like they're straight off a chinese knock off, still feels lightweight in bends and at speed ... and that dash is comical if it wasn't so depressingly awful to use.
