for me the Tiger sport 660 defines the true meaning of sports touring. It is agile and quick yet it has enough comfort for longer rides. Unlike the other heavy bikes on the list

Great list and great vid but I think you should have at least mentioned the BMW R1250RS , it is a bike I believe is being overlooked and is underrated but in fact it is a wonderful sport Turing machine, lighter than the RT and K1600 but still very comfortable, it is very nimble and agile while using the famous R motor with enough HP and lots of torque.

I prefer smaller bikes. RS660, Tracer 7 and 9. Seems to have everything for the road.
That NT1100 does look pretty good though. Nice understressed engine. And going to be super reliable.

Not sure why he forgot the Goat of the 650 sport touring class... the SV650...
I've had my 2002 for 4 years and have 40,000 kms now.... and for biking in Canada where you can't for 4 months of the year, thats pretty damn good...
Suzuki for the win... forget the other garbage

To me the choice is divided between the GSX S1000 GT and the Honda NT1100. I just can't get past how ugly I think the Tracer 9 GT looks, with that scooba diver dash, duckface front and so many people complaining about how bad the windscreen is.

  • @deanjasondelmar6099

A constantly overlooked bike in this category which is superior to the Ninja or the suzuki is the Versys 1000. Much more comfortable for 2 up touring and quite a capable bike in it's own right, definitely more bike than the Tracer, I've ridden both and would take the Versys every time.

  • @robertlee8042

I’ve ridden everything for 58 years. The touring motorcycle is half of what you get on a gsa. You get everything a touring bike offers on a gsa plus the ability to go off-road if you want to or have to. You can make the gsa lower and cushier by choosing a soft and low stance on the ESA. I have a 30” inseam. I easily flatfoot the std gsa with the seat and settings on soft and low. When I get on an interstate I set the height to automatic because I enjoy being higher on interstates with no stoplights etc. In Europe I have a Yamaha T700. The best bike for Europe.

  • @Wheelo40

I’ve got adaptive cruise control on my car and it occasionally brakes for cars taking an exit. It also awkwardly holds the speed of the vehicle in front of you until you are fully in the passing lane which I always have to override with my foot to keep from being a roadblock. Finally, once in a blue moon, it brakes for a phantom it sees. If motorcycle adaptive cruise controls suffer from these ills, I’m not interested. I do love the “blind” cruise control on my bike, though, and use it constantly.

  • @karlosh2422

Good Stuff. Tracer 9GT and GSX-S1000-GT really appeal to me. Although all the reviews I've seen on the Tracer 9GT say the noise of the tall screen is terrible, and I wasn't able to get a test ride on a Tracer 9 GT last year . Finding rocking horse "jobbies" would have been easier !
Triumph really need to replace the Sprint that they dropped a few years back. There's a sports tourer sized hole in Triumph's model line up.
I'm glad that the obsession with adventure bikes seems to be on the wane. When I've ridden 18 , 19 inch wheel high up adventure bikes, the handling seemed vague, and they all look ugly to me !

Interesting comment about the BMW R18 and it undercutting the price of the equivalent Harley, as both a BMW and Harley owner I can tell you for sure that if you spec the BMW up with all the bells and whistles the price will surpass that of the equivalent Harley.

Yamaha FJR1300. 200 lb lighter than a Goldwing 6.6 gallon fuel tank (vs 5.6) for better range. Comfortable with all of the technology you would want or need and will carve up corners like no Goldwing can even think about.

I chose the R1250RT (2020) because it did everything, not fantastically, but really well. I live in Cape Town RSA and am blessed by some of the best motorcycling roads around. The RT is, IMO, a GS in pure road trim. Strip off the panniers and top box and she'll hang with da crotch rockets in the mountains all day, you wanna see their faces coming out of tight hairpins and the RT's grunt just kills them. I've toured over 28000km since delivery in June 2020 and i would recommend the RT purely for it's neat but ugly, all BMW's are fugly, looks and that engine!!!!

I loved seeing all these bikes in a nice, succinct video! This is extremely informative. Regarding active cruise control on BMWs, I don't think it is currently available on the R 1250 RT bikes, at least not in the USA. It's not even listed as an option on their website here in the states. I imagine it is because of chip shortage and supply chain issues.

Well, you certainly have shown a lot of choices. I disagree with the description of many of these bikes as Touring Bikes. I would be hard pressed to ride all day on most of them. That doesn't mean that they are not nice bikes, but I think they would be more aptly called Day Touring bikes. Most of the luggage bags that the smaller bikes have are insufficient to do any decent tour. And you also have other issues. A small windscreen does not offer any real protection. Riders have to make decisions about what they want or need in a bike to do the job they want. Decreased weight, less comfort for touring. Increased weight usually means a bigger fairing, bags and maybe even shaft drive and water cooling. I still think that we can agree that manufacturers should still work at making a better bike. My wife used to have a Honda GL650 Silver Wing, and it seemed to have all of the features that most long distance touring riders would like. A regular Honda fairing that was on the Gold Wing, Shaft Drive, Water Cooled, factory bags and a rear seat the was removable and the trunk was made to fasten in its place which centered the weight better, and gave the rider a back rest. Now because it was an 83 product, and it's been well over 30 years of engine development I think that this would result in a bike that had great ground clearance, and enough storage for going cross the continent, as she did on the 650.

Harley, for the most part, is about fancy paint color names. Other bike companies, like car companies, yearly horsepower increase, more electronics, and paint with basically same MSRP. Harley’s MSRP increase just with paint colors. Harley, look at your competition. GM and later Ford required bailouts in 2008 trying to catch up to global competition. Too many parties with dancing girls, they lost their way.

I hate active cruise control and am glad BMW did not put it on the K1600. We have it on one of our (luxury) cars and the stupid thing is either constantly either jamming on the brakes to keep the speed at the cruise setting (even going down a hill where gravity is helping the car accelerate so you can get some extra speed - and reduced gas consumption for free) or in traffic where it can't make up its mind whether to slow down or speed up because it can only detect the vehicle immediately in front and cannot "see" past it to anticipate what that vehicle will do 2 seconds from now. I'd rather have "dumb" cruise control and manually override as needed. My opinion on rider aids - pay attention to what you are doing which is riding the motorcycle and if your brain cells can't actually manage that then please jump off a high building flapping your arms - some people are stupid to the point that they should not be let near a vehicle of any type. BMW R18 - its a heavy pig . . .as you say good in a straight line and that sums it up . . .and I live in North America.

The NT1100 is interesting but I really do not need a 32 inch seat height bike. The R18B and Transcontinental are a joke, their weight is inexcusable. For a BMW to not having an electronically adjustable screen and true ESA is shame. The B model is almost as heavy as a full dress Indian or Harley... fifty pounds more than the Street Glide.

hmm tricky. Like the GSX-S1000-GT (it needs a shaft drive), and I think I like the V100 but without the nerdy toys.. ABS-yes, the rest biff it.

Harley's 'further, faster' to me indicate eBike updates. The Goldwing would be a dream to have.
