Another note on Hwei's encounter with Jhin: in the teaser right before we see Jhin's explosion, we see 4 figures and Hwei being the 5th. Jhin always kills in multiples of 4, meaning he would have no reason to take Hwei's life as well, thus he is spared.
This is a cool touch! It makes me wonder if maybe Jhin *INTENDED* for Hwei to be the 4th, but developed a soft spot for him while planning it and stalled for a 5th to show up? I don't know if we're getting flavour stories anymore, so we may not know.
Side note, is the whole "We're leaving everything open to speculation" just Riot's convenient way of covering for the fact they laid off all the narrativists? Like, are we praising them for firing folks to turn more profit? Hmm.

Banking off of the "Hwei doesn't see the world the same", I think it may be literal. If you listen to his voice lines when meeting people he sees them with colors surrounding them or AS colors, probably reflective of their emotions and desires. He may see the world and people as different colors, that he can then manipulate with his own colors.
Sounds a bit like Jack The Ripper from Record of Ragnarök
That's such a cool theory! And it kinda looks like that in his interaction with Kayn where Hwei says he should let his colors (halfs) blend, wich means he can SEE Rhaast's influence on Kayn as well as the shadow magic trough colors

I don't really think that there's a demon behind his story, as it wasn't enough that he has ptsd from his crazed and maniacal mentor, Jhin, and he uses this feeling to fuel and alter his art magic that was practiced in the monastery.
Doesn't really work, since it was stated he was already toying with forbidden magics before Jhin arrived. He was ALREADY doing things differently from how the monastery intended. Jhin changed the trajectory of his life and and the subject of his art, but it sounds like he had already settled on a medium.
@@BaronVonScrub forbidden magic, sure. But demonology, not really. Pushing the boundaries of art and creativity doesn't necesserely mean signing a pact with a demon. He just found that doing art as someone dictates is not really art. Additionally , why the hell would you sign a pact when Jhin is somewhat of a demon in nature himself xD

@@Mr97kriss Ki, basically. Yi's is the Wuju style manipulation of life energy, and Karma's is ancestral power, given that she's basically the avatar. Neither of them are tied to emotions in any way. They are both also strictly "good" characters.
Hwei is *NOT* strictly good, and his power *IS* directly tied to emotions, as well as all the other evidence provided in this video and others that he has demon ties.
I'm not sure why you're so willing to die on this hill. Every single thing about Hwei's lore and teasers so far point toward demon involvement.
His relationship with Jhin reminds me of Hannibal and Will Graham.

Yeah i thought the same. You know how evelynn makes their victims reach peak bliss before torturing and un-aliving them?
Maybe the demon of despair tortures them with disasters, then calms them down with a few moments of serenity, continues with a struck of torment and then strikes with disaster again, restarting the cycle.
I thought that "ouroboros simbology" was meant to represent that viscious cycle.
3 is the number of Hwei. Once he reaches FOUR, he reaches his darkest side, inspired by his masked muse.

The hway Hwei's story is being revealed is really changing the hweight of things in leagues lore, I can't hwait to learn more about this story.

The way they describe hwei sees reality differently then other people and his personality really fits somebody with schizotypal personality disorder. ((Which I Lowkey love))
Hwei is strongly reminiscent of Relm from FFVI. A mage that draws spells and is able to "control" them to a degree. Difference is Relm can draw you and make you fight yourself, and Strago himself says Relm is more talented than he is.
So if the effects of his spells require witnessing them...is lee sin immune?

Despair could be Eve if we're lucky! The purple matches her, more so than Kench, so I think it's unlikely to be him. She *really* needs some bloody power redemption after LoR made her basically equally as powerful as *some* mortal humans...which is frankly insulting to her title as a great demon. XD
Eve isn't a greater demon, nor one of the first. Her deal is pain and agony less despair and gloom.

Maybe Riot was inspired by Hannibal (Series) Jhin being Hannibal Lecter and Hwei being Will Graham. Their interaction makes so much sense. And by the end of Hannibal series, Will just succumbs to his psychopathic tendencies, just like Hwei.
Well, Jhin is often referred to as the "Golden Demon" of Ionia in the Lore.
I guess Jhin could count as a fourth "Demon". 😎

I think Hwei's emotions empower his magic and a lingering azakana with three eyes (cuz apparently 3 is a very important number to him) stuck to his magic and is feeding off his strong emotions, but at the same time kinda empowering him. Idk

when He said about a layer of darkness underneath Ionia in one of his voicelines I thought it could be related to the void in some way
I am actually relieved they didnt make Jhin his ex bf or smt. Not only bc Riot overdid it with "Now this character is gay"-Twitter tier writing. But also bc the less human Jhin feels like, the better he is.
It might be just me but Hwei's ingame model reminds me a lot of Arcane (compared to other ingame models)

i think the reason why hwei is able to channel the demons is because art invokes emotions and demons love feasting on it he becames a conduit for them even if not directly possessed by them

Also to add on the naming they both are obviously named with Chinese, and their name fits amazingly both meaning "dust", Jhin 燼 is a dust of spart of beautiful flames a beauty of death, Hwei 穢 is something like a negative waste someone no one wants and dust that makes others in bad conditions, plus it also have a implications of being "Cursed" would fit alot with demon
I, the low-rank player, after mastering Azir which was supposedly the hardest champion in the game, I already find Hwei fun. So fun in fact, that I can proudly say I have finally found my main.

He does not evoke this lack of interest in appearance- I guess they couldn't strike a balance between 'looks like me when I obsessively work and leave my neckbeard unshaven for a while" and skin-sellingly attractive.
i don't think he is that much complex, is just more skill to learn when to use, is not like Aphelios that you need to manipulate your amunition and secondary weapon to get especifique effects
