Recording this in two takes means the band went in and recorded all the instruments with a dummy vocal the first time and then recorded the vocals second round. After years in the studio I can tell you that's one step removed from live and speaks to how good this band was live. One of the best albums in rock history is Deep Purple's "Made in Japan". Good reaction. Thanks.

The way that bassline comes in at 2:36 is incredible! And the groove from the drummer! Such an awesome band

This song was my introduction to Deep Purple when I was a kid in the 70s. My dad was a huge fan of theirs and had their albums. He gifted me a 45 single of this and I listened to it over and over when I was 5. Still one of my favorite songs of theirs, even though this is not the classic lineup that recorded this. Instant like. 🔥🤘🏼

I was a young teenager when this was released...some images: discovering girls, Vietnam TV living room war, intro to waterskiing, getting hammered down by the seawall, drooling over muscle cars, freaking out that a new school year was approaching, freaking out that summer was ending... that's what this song brings back to me.

The Age of Aquarius and The Age of Technology led to great musical strides in pure creativity on all musical fronts. Lyrics, instruments, equipment and recording processes. The artists of the late 60’s to the early 80’s are inspiring.

My first memory of this song was when I was about 5. I was born in 1969. This song was released in 1968, but my dad and uncles still listened to the album for YEARS after it came out. I would run around singing the chorus part at the top of my lungs! Lol Great song and reaction, Salvo! Thanks for the memory of this 😁✌️

Vocals courtesy of Rod Evans. This was before Ian Gillan came on board as the lead vocalist 💜 You won’t find a better composer & keyboardist than Jon Lord ♥️

I have the original single on the Tetragrammaton label. One More Rainy Day was the flip side. Unusual for the time as it contained an extended organ solo (unusual for radio play).

Glad you found this one! Another banger with the same, pre-Ian Gillan singer, Rod Evans (who I thought WAS Gillan for a long time, lol) , is "Kentucky Woman." Even MORE kick-ass keyboard solo craft to make your ears happy!

I loved this recording, the album was one my brother played a lot, and I came to love Deep Purple 💜We were teens when Billy Joe Royal first recorded this fantastic song & when DP did it we were hooked!! It is great to have the music of our eras being discovered by new generations of music fans & saved from oblivion 💜☮️💟 greetings from Canada 🇨🇦 😻

To mix it up, listen to a song from the 90´s: "Somtimes I feel like screamin´" Do the version live at Royal Albert Hall. This is one of my favorite songs ever. Steve Morse at his very best on the guitar.

I heard this song many times on radio when growing up but never really paid attention that it’s by Deep Purple. I hear a lot of songs on reaction videos that I’ve heard before just didn’t know whose songs those were. The great thing about having to listen to radio back then is that we were exposed to many different bands and music styles.

The 1988 version tacked on to "Nobody's Perfect" is a one take early morning jam after the band had returned from the pub. The best Mark II line-up version is from the Royal Albert Hall 1969 and later included on the 1977 rarities compilation album "Powerhouse". It's on TH-cam. Other strong standouts from the first album are the early Purple classic “Mandrake Root", the instrumental "And the Address", and their reinterpretation of The Beatles' "Help".
Rick Wakeman: “Jon Lord is one of the greatest keyboard players there has ever been. He’s not really considered a prog rock musician, but he did things that nobody else did. When you look at early Deep Purple especially, there was a lot of prog in there - they were breaking rules. Jon did things that you ‘shouldn’t’ - in inverted commas - do on in the context of a rock band. If that’s not progressive, I don’t know what is."

First release off their first album. They grew from here. (Except maybe Paice, hard to improve on perfect.) Just a thought here, been enjoying your DP discoveries since I discovered your channel a couple weeks ago. They've been my favorite group since 68. You feel like going out on a limb? "Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming" from 95. Same lineup minus Ritchie on guitar (he quit) replaced by Steve Morse.

The second version is not worth listening bc it’s just a live goof around session with a different singer. The new singer which is Ian Gillan and you definitely need to listen to Deep Purple Child In Time which is among the top rock vocal performance of all time according to Rolling Stone magazine readers poll.

Billy Joe Royal /Hush original is not bad at all.. The production is much different .. Joe South made his own version also and being the originator with his technique makes it stand out a bit more .

I always found this version boring and preferred the version recorded in 1969 at the Concerto For Group and Orchestra with Gillan on vocals - after listening, it immediately becomes clear why Evans was replaced (this is even better seen in Mandrake Root or Bird Has Flown), and the version The 1988 version is just awesome, I also really like the 2014 version, where Bruce Dickinson sings with Ian, and Rick Wakeman plays keyboards with Airey.
