Groovy! Very sixties. 1968 to be precise. The album cover shown is from When We Rock, We Rock, and When We Roll, We Roll, a compilation album released in 1978. I picked up my copy of it within a year or so of its release -- "Space Truckin'", "Kentucky Woman", "Hard Road (Wring That Neck)", "Burn", "Woman from Tokyo", "Hush", "Smoke on the Water", and "Highway Star" (Live). Good stuff! I might even still have that album tucked away someplace.
Another amazing song that was played on the AM radio that made going for car rides as a kid always so much fun. We heard so many different genres as very young kids that really shaped musical tastes as we got older. Hearing music that way was so enriching.
Haha. When I read the title Hush, I actually thought you were going to play the song There's A Kind Of Hush by Herman's Hermits. Two great songs, two very different sounds.
Another great use of a Bo Diddley beat that I bet you would absolutely love is the Iggy Pop hit Lust For Life. It's been chopped up with bits and pieces of it used in so many different commercials, but of course the only vocals they were ever allowed into it would just be the title Lust For Life, as a lot of the rest of it would be so cool but there's no way they would ever allow it to be on the air. Anyway it's a fantastic dance song; it's just more in that Iggy Pop early Punk vein, but it's got so much soul and so much grit and it's so compelling.
One of my favorites!! This was before Ian Gillan on vocals & Roger Glover on bass. Vocals courtesy of Rod Evans! But you still have Jon Lord on keys, Ritchie Blackmore on guitar & Ian Paice on drums 🔥🔥🔥
This brings me back to my 14 year old self. Deep Purple's first hit and it has that 60's groove. Love it! You mentioned Rush. I have a request. Secret Touch live Snakes and Arrows tour. It's a banger! Love your channel ❤️ Cheers
Hey Biz. Yeah man, this is EARLY Deep Purple. In fact, this is the first Deep Purple song I ever heard and I loved it right from the drop. The organ really stands out for me and that solo he (Jon Lord ) played was freaking out keyboardists at the time since they had a huge problem trying to duplicate it. The whole song is dope. Also love Ritchie Blackmore's lead guitar playing on this one. Peace.
First hit with their first lineup. They had many changes over the decades leading to a heavier metal style! I remember listening to my brother’s record of a compilation of popular tunes played on a well know FM radio station in NYC. I loved the way it rocked with that organ adding to the whole sound!
This is with the first singer, Rod Evans. He has a great voice. If you like his singing, you should listen to the first Captain Beyond album. He sings, and it's incredible.
Biz I have been subscribed to you for a good two plus years, I know the type of classic rock you really like and this band I bet will be another one! Ian can sing with the best of them. They will rock you out brother. Check out Highway Star from these guys. Rock on!!¡
This was the original lineup, Mark I. Different lead singer and Bassist. Mark II brought in Ian Gillan and Roger Glover and was a harder, less 60s sound. If you liked this you should like their cover of Neil Diamond's Kentucky Woman.
I had the single when it was new. Good ears! It is from the late 1960's. I used to play it loud. I'm certain my dad wasn't a fan. But he would just pull his hearing aid out. Mom though was always a surprise as to what she'd dance too! Try "My Woman from Tokyo " if you haven't already!
I woyuld never refer to or describe this song as 'catchy'. It's just plain old kick-ass rock and roll from the word GO. Excellent choice, great reaction man!
They still do Hush at every concert. And it's a fantastic experience every time. Ritchie had an unusual tone in the part you mentioned, but it's his guitar. Otherwise Jon Lord could do almost everything with his Hammond. Saw them 87 in Sweden and Ritchie was in a mood and refused to do the encore, Smoke On The Water, but Jon took both Ritchies part and his so we in the audience really didn't miss the guitar.
Vicious, lethal band, right out of the gate! Next, get right to their hottest album, Fireball. The song No No No will knock you over. And The Mule, No One Came, Fireball, Strange Kind of Woman - classic album! Then try either the album Perfect Strangers or the album Purpendicular - both absolute perfection with savage fire.
Like someone else's comment on the mighty 'Zepp, DP are one of the only bands that can take you to church & the brothel in the same song, the special sauce on organ is Jon Lord for DP,&JohnPaulJonesfor L.Z.
Love the original singer for Deep Purple Rod Evans on this one. They fired him in favor of Ian Gillan. They wanted a more rocking sound and didn't think Rod had it. He firmed another band called Captain Beyond. Eventually quit music and dropped out of the limelight.
That is a B-3 Hammond Organ that John Lord played ..
Very catchy, yes!! Deep Purple knew how to get the crowd going. Their live concerts are also among the loudest shows I ever attended.
FIRE!
Facts
This was their first hit! It's a cover, the original done by Billy Joe Royal, but this one really rocks!
U guessed right.... it's the 60s ROCK...☮️🌍🎸
Oh. My. Goodness. I love this song!
Oh YES, GREAT SONGS MY TEENAGE YEARS DP song WAS SMOKE ON THE WATER.. I'M 67 GOTTA LOVE IT!!!
Song from 1968. I saw them in Little Rock in the 70’s- couldn’t hear well for 3 days after standing in front of their wall of speakers.
Next, "Woman from Tokyo" This song was written by Joe South a personal FAV, check him and Billie Joe Royal (Singer of South songs) out!
Man Biz you've been pumping out the songs and I'm just trying to play catch up. You've picked some bangers lately. 🤘
lol and they are going to keep coming my friend
My thoughts exactly!! I haven’t caught up yet!!
Deep Purple was the first famous band that I saw in concert - and they put on a great show!
Me too.
Yeaaahh, dude! My fave DP tune of all time (and it's a crowded field at the top.) I was hoping you'd dig it!
After all these years of hearing this song, I can still get that feeling you had on your first listen! You turn this up and you got a party!
Was living in NYC when this BANGER🔥 🎵 was on the RADIO non stop. The ORGANIST makes this Jam❗Such great memories 😊
Top band. Musicianship is top notch also. Great Band!!!!

They did a live version on "Playboy After Dark" tv show that is good.
Paice and Lord OMG!
Jon Lord pushes that Hammond into ecstacy.
1968
This is what the cool older kids always played.
I had this on a 45rpm record. I think the other side was "Go Now".
Incredible band live! Hands-down my favorite track from them. Great pick and review, Biz!
You Made me laugh....when you laugh getting into the reaction 🤣.....you are so cute!💋
Biz your killing it with some bangers keep them coming ❤️❤️

No one told Jon Lord he couldn't make the B3 sound like a guitar or a drum, as well as an organ.
…..this was my first rock song that I heard in my life !!! 😕 boy do I feel old ! This one is dear to my heart & soul ❤️
another great Deep Purple song from this era is chasing shadows.

Love this song! Also love the cover by the Kula Shakers
So funky.
Love this. Kula Shaker did a fantastic cover.

Love it! Their first hit from 68. For one of their last hits, try Knocking at Your Back Door from 84
This is with the first singer, Rod Evans. He has a great voice. If you like his singing, you should listen to the first Captain Beyond album. He sings, and it's incredible.
Captain Beyond’s 1st album is a must listen for reactions. Rod Evans and some Iron Butterfliers.
Next , Woman From Tokyo , , or , Strange Kind Of Woman !!
🎸💯 I love the Deep Purple vibe on Hush‼🔥

Biz I have been subscribed to you for a good two plus years, I know the type of classic rock you really like and this band I bet will be another one! Ian can sing with the best of them. They will rock you out brother. Check out Highway Star from these guys. Rock on!!¡

Another great studio cut from '68 that reminds me of this is Livin' in the USA by Steve Miller
Smoke on the Water
Go'in to church on that organ!😮
Perfect Strangers

The end was just the organ.

Hey man, Steve, This is the first influencial daddy of disco/rap song.........in my 63 yr old opinion lol
This lineup, they did a cover of Neil Diamond's Kentucky Woman. Which is pretty good too. Peace

And The Mule, No One Came, Fireball, Strange Kind of Woman - classic album! Then try either the album Perfect Strangers or the album Purpendicular - both absolute perfection with savage fire.
I was a young teenager when this hit the airwaves. This song reminds me of getting loaded and picking up chicks as much as possible.
Like someone else's comment on the mighty 'Zepp, DP are one of the only bands that can take you to church & the brothel in the same song, the special sauce on organ is Jon Lord for DP,&JohnPaulJonesfor L.Z.
My opinion. Deep Purple does Blue Moon of Kentucky the Best. Besides Bill Monroe. Adios 🌄
Here is a wild request...try You Fool No One from the live Made in Europe album....Richie is a total savage.
Is it playlist worthy?
Absolutely
❤
The first layout of DP
