  • The transmission has been noisy and leaking oil along the half shaft down onto the exhaust causing lots of smoke coming from the engine bay. In today's episode I remove the Honda Integra Type R transmission, driveshafts, clutch and Mugen air intake. I'll send the transmission away for a rebuild and whatever else it needs. This will be a several part video as there are lots of other jobs to do to the car before the new clutch and rebuilt transmission gets re-installed.

    I know sometimes my videos are very basic but hopefully they will help some people. I also like to document what I do to the car with video while trying to be creative. Most of the time I do everything here myself which is a big job and its hard to remember everything, But I shoot most of this stuff with my old iPhone and sometimes my old GoPro. The "Pieces to Camera" I film with my Canon 5D so I don't even use a proper video camera at all. Although I would love to get a SONY FX3 some day to go with the gimbal I recently bought as that will open up a lot of creative shots in future videos.

    Removing the gearbox was "pretty easy". Maybe for you sir. I'd be feckin' crying into my tea. 😄 To be fair, after I helped a friend strip a crashed example for spares a few years ago, I was surprised how easy and remarkably quickly it was to reduce one to it's main constituent parts, and how few tools it required. None of your "special tools only available at your dealers" required. And how easily 20+ year old bolts covered in the road years came undone.

      Haha. I'm sure it will test me too when it comes time to re-assemble it all. I will need to make a special tool to prevent the flywheel from turning when I'm tightening the flywheel and clutch bolts. If I can make one that works well, it can be the topic of another video that "Future Andy" will have to make...

    I need to remove my gearbox too because it doesn't go in 2nd gear at all. Got another gearbox to swap into it but just need to find some time to do it.

      Working out what parts I needed to replace and finding those parts took a while too. But I think I have everything I need to finish it now. Filming & editing everything slows me down too. Are you replacing your clutch while you're at it?

      The clutch is actually brand new, so I just need to remove the one that is on there and place the another one I got which has lower mileage, it will be much better to drive once I have all gears again

    Just a critique on the video nothing against your excellent content, the popping of the frame at the start between letterbox and no letterbox is quite annoying as a viewer.

      Thanks for the feedback. I shot the intro in 4K on an old Canon 5D so it shows in the timeline as slightly letterboxed. Then I crop in a bit at the edit points so as not to have jump cuts. I should have cropped in more so it was more like a mid shot cutting to a close up. Yes it does look a bit like a mistake looking back at it now. I'll pay better attention to that in the future. cheers.

    Are you getting the Iso finish on the gears and carbon synchro’s etc? It’d be interesting to see what difference those make.

    • @UzumakiGarage
      @UzumakiGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’m not getting carbon synchros but they did find some pitting on some gears. I think they’re gonna try to polish that out. I’ll include photos in the video where I re-install the transmission. I probably should’ve requested the iso polish but it’s too late now

      @@UzumakiGarage Yeah, do show a couple, be interesting to see. I Wonder how it managed to get some moisture in the box at some stage to start the pitting. I guess if you’re not upping the power the iso finish is an unnecessary expense? Anyways good luck with it mate, can’t wait to see how it comes along 🤘

      @@frankz5864 I don’t know what caused the pitting. Maybe too long between trans oil changes. Not sure. Yeah stock power and RPM so carbon synchros probably a bit over the top. Slick shifting with carbon synchros would’ve been nice tho. Oh well next time.
