Revving a Honda to it's limits is the MOST socially acceptable way to overtake someone period. If they don't like it they shouldn't be on the road.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts (and feelings) about the Honda Integra Type R (DC2) What you experienced with this car is what I experience every day when I get into the driver's seat. I bought the car (Championship White - build No. 0101) in 2000 from a rich Chinese student. It was a year old, with 1,450 Kms on the clock. It also has the full body kit, AC and alarm (which still works). Now, after 21 years, I am about to clock 310,000Kms and have never touched the motor. I rev the car regularly to 9,000rpm and it never misses a beat. It has had 5 sets of tyres, 3 distributors, one wheel bearing and one radiator - simple repairs which I've done myself, at a total cost of less than $5,000 over 21 years. The original discs pad were replaced after 230,000Kms. As I say, the feeling of exhilaration and pleasure I get when I drive this car is hard to explain. I have the money to buy a new hot hatch, but simply cannot part with this car. The roar from the 1.8 litre engine at V-TEC is huge. True, most new little suburban cars can beat it at the lights, but it's the character and rawness of this car which will forever make it a legend!

Please don't ever sell it. It's a legacy that will be ruined with cheap mods, aftermarket 18" wheels and cut springs once sold. It's a collector's hopefully you can hand down in the future.

The car is stock, except for a better air filter system. I promised it to my son, who keeps asking for it, but I just can't part with it. Clocking 320,000Kms now and coming home today let rip along our winding hyway, leaving a few V8 utes eating my dust! This car seems to run better every day! Yes, it's an orgasm every time I drive it!

Meh, the K24A3/K24A2 is a more practical platform for everyday use. Because it has way more torque for putting around and overtaking.
It takes a lot of modding to get it to rev this high though, not saying its without trade-offs.

Sold my similar Civic VTiR (B16A screamer) a few years back. Your review captures the feel of these types of 90's Honda screamers. You sound like you're qualifying for pole on an F1 grid (when they used to sound good), but you're just driving to work. So a great car to enjoy, push hard enough to enjoy, and not go so fast that you end up catching a bus due to no license. The lack of torque when using one as a daily does get old however. But as a fun weekender, hills drive, track day fun machine, well, you could do far worse.

I worked with a guy who bought one of these brand new back in 2001.
There is something really magical about the noise that these engines make on the upper 1/2 of the tacho. A real special little machine....
Sadly, the owner overcooked a corner in his and binned it into a power pole. Thankfully all occupants escaped uninjured, but the car was written off. I suspect that a lot of Type R's probably suffered this kind of sad ending....

I'm really enjoying these reviews. You guys absolutely "get it" with each car. Taking into account what it is, when it was designed, and what it was supposed to do.
From the 60 Series Landcruiser (if you thought this was gonna be fast, then you're an idiot 🤣), to the no-torque but all-revs of the Integra. They are both exactly what they were supposed to be.
I totally understand that some people don't like the way the early VTEC engines worked. But they did exactly what they were supposed to do.
I love a torquey (yeah, that's a word) engine, but that isn't what this car was.
These were more like a motorcycle engine in a car. They love to rev. They feel and sound fantastic when they are revving. And they can do it all day long. Forget the fuel consumption and just rev the damn thing.
The look on your face when you VTEC'd it (yeah, that's a word) made me so jealous. Kind of made me feel like I was right there with you.
That review was fantastic. It really captured the spirit of the car.

Nice review, this car is alot faster than I expected tbh.
Stock the DC2 Integra type R can do the 1/4 mile in 14.2sec.
It's cheap to run & fuel economical too.
Could you also do a review of the 3rd gen Honda Prelude?
It was the fastest car in the world at the time through the slalom due to it's mechanical 4WS.
Not enough praise for it here.

I'm on my second one, the first one i bought from new in '98, it unfortunately died 13 year's ago when my (then) wife rolled it at 80km/h and crashed it into some small trees :'( She was complete unharmed even though driving without a safety belt tho. Before that i had been in an accident crashing into a medium sized 4x4 while doing 70 km/h (the 4x4 was actually reversing quite fast) , i was also completely unharmed , except for a bruise on my knee from hitting the ignition key.
10 years ago i traded in a E46 BMW M3 for my second ITR , and have had it since then. Though i've gotten many offers i wouldn't sell it for the world , it's just THAT good

I think atleast for the us models you have to understand something in the states at one point these could be had for 7-12k usd and most examples were driven and had repairs done of the common and low value driver car. These cars are worth saving. If the car is driveable and for right money all of these cars are worth saving or using for right purpose. Shoddy repairs from past when cars were done are now worth correcting but obviously make cars worth less money up front. I bought mine before markets exploded mine needs some work but has made leaps and bounds from original state i will be making some videos on it this summer along with my DC5 TYPE S

I believe I’ve got one of the highest mileage 96 Type Rs in the world, and a few mechanical failures weren’t mentioned here.
The distributor WILL fail, and it will fail violently and without warning. I have had mine die twice, about 100,000km apart. The entire unit does not need to be replaced, just the internals, which are shared with the CRV and are cheap.
It also has a habit of killing axleshafts, around 100,000km lifespan for them too. Shared with all Integras and inexpensive.
Several other things go wrong but those are the two glaring omissions from this video.

    • @MrGrentch
      @MrGrentch 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

How high is your mileage if you don't mind me asking? Mine's(98 spec JDM) 'only' 190,000kms, but still has factory compression and uses zero oil(which seems to be rare enough) so hopefully... 🤞I'm interested to see how long they can go for before blowing up. :) Good to know someone is driving one very long term.
+1 in the dizzy dying. Mine let go at 120k. Not fully. It worked after a fashion, but when the car got up to full temp it would conk out. The coil pack looked like it had been in a fire. Replaced it, the cap and the rotor, all sorted. The only other issues I've had were a replacement clutch at 160k(which seems to be a rare enough issue), alternator rebuild at around 100k, front wheel bearing at 140k. I did change the bushings in the car between 100-140k and that made a huge difference to the driving feel. That's it other than basic oil/filters/pads servicing.
Funny I've never heard of issues with the axleshafts and I know, or at least knew a few guys who ran them back in the day, some with 200,000 kms + on the clock. Increasing oil consumption and rust in the rear quarters seemed to be the main murder weapons in the end. That and girlfriends who couldn't stand the car. 😄
Mine's my daily and pretty much bone stock with all but the air con option deleted from factory, so no ABS, airbags, third brakelight, clock, radio/speakers, but did come with the optional rear strut brace. I've since added the clock, radio, Euro rear lights, NSX-r steering wheel and an USDM centre console with alacantara armrest. I also got a set of Euro 15" wheels for more(and cheaper) tyre choices and crap Irish roads.😁 I've got a Euro rear foglight I hope to install this year.

Quick note re: your fact sheet. It says that the 4 round lights changed in Australia, the UK and US to rectangular ones. They didn't. JDM style rectangular lights are entire front clips that were imported and bolted up, unless you mean that was the release date of the car that your are referring to. The paragraph is a bit obscure - most likely a grammar issue. In fact Aussie DC2R with the JDM nose are not how they left the factory - if you are after a "pure" Aussie spec, it needs the quads. Both nose cones look great though. One other fact sheet nit-pick: Aussie spec came with 4-2-1 header, 4-1 is JDM spec

So I’ve owned my Saab 9000 CSE for more than 7 years now and I love it every bit.
Do you guys think I should change to this one? There are many good Japan imports of used DC2R’s here in Hong Kong and most of them cost around US$20K upwards to 60K for low mileage reconditioned or nice ones reg’d from new back in the day.

Two pieces of advice for any future DC2 owner; don't modify the suspensions too much or excessively alter the weight distribution through lightening, it's perfect for the street as is, and carry oil with you, at all times, B18C's are thirsty:)

I owned a DC5 type R (so I know not the same.) It was the shortest owned car I’ve ever had unfortunately, by my choice. 2 reasons. 1. Gear ratios are so short that I found i was shifting so often, it was annoying (my daily) 2. Vtec comes in so late, that you rarely get to use/hear/feel it.
I hate seeing these modified. Honda did such a good thing with these out of factory. The DC2 does look fantastic. The seats were absolutely fantastic; your not wrong! Well done Honda. I miss 90s cars.

The FK8 is faster and more versatile but it's not the dream. The ITR is a better special occasion back road car. An assault on the senses. It's a great way to have fun and de stress.

I’m not a Honda fanboy, but I had the opportunity to drive a low mileage 1st generation Honda CRX back in the 90’s before they became cult classics, & was blown away with how well it did everything, & changed the way I viewed FWD. Honda built truly great & memorable cars from the mid 90’s to the early 2000’s. It’s a pity all their cars look like autobots or decepticons these days. Too much garish plastic add ons to become true classics like the Integra.
