  • Simple means efficient, and efficient means more time. The more time I get to spend with baits in the water, the happier I am. Especially if it helps me get to better water. Hope these simple ideas help you do the same, and make your time outdoors a little more enjoyable!

      It all depends on your awareness, knowledge and level of respect for the river and wilderness. It's always best to have someone with you, as long as they also have skills. Sometimes though, you accept a certain risk level and go on solo adventures....making sure you inform someone of your location is a must. Today Ice Fishing solo was a good example....or when I got my suv stuck overnight on the riverbank...it can be scary and dangerous for sure....its not something I recommend....maybe it's a lil bit of stupidity, craziness and passion for the outdoors....be smart, safe and keep your lines tight.

    My daddy grew up fishing the Arkansas River in Tulsa. Then we moved to Memphis, fishing the mighty Mississippi (shes no joke) and now I live in texarkana fishing the red river. I am a single mom of 2 teen boys. I watch your videos to help learn what my daddy didn't get to teach me or my boys. Kind of old school and new school. My dad always carried a flat boat cushion in the truck with him. It was some sort of life vest I think, it had straps or handles. Your stadium cushion reminded me lol. I know your ice videos are coming soon. I'm in texas. The thought of a lake freezing to the point of walking and drilling is foreign to me. Take your mom again that was sweet. Sorry for the thesis 😅 just wanted to express my gratitude for what you do. Your giddiness while fishing reminds me of how I used to feel when daddy took me along to the big scary river lol thank you.

    • @RiverCertified

  • @FoxTenson
    @FoxTenson 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Since you mentioned home made rod holders I'd suggest a cheap one for folks to make which is pvp pipe and a metal rod thick enough to drill through. Drill through both sides of the bottom area of the pipe through the rod for long screws so you can nut and bolt tighten them down and have them act as a rod stopped. Do the metal and one side of the pvp up top to tighter with nuts. Leave excess metal to use as a spike on the bottom to whatever level you want. You can also buy these online, we call em sandspikes on the coast and down in florida. We use them for surf fishing and they hold up to sharks, but work crazy good freshwater bank fishing. You can adjust how far down you stick them, angle them or straight up, etc. Perfect when you need to hold a line over a snag, waves, or more at the water for light biters. I have never seen them anywhere but in florida and on the coast so many folks may not know they exist but they are cheap, easy to make, and hold better than the walmart screw shaped ones. Cheaper too usually!
    Also you forgot an important tip: Don't forget the franks hot sauce.

    Just a tip which may help someone re: stadium seat pads. In the early spring or late fall and winter when the gound is cold bring two. One for your butt and one for your feet. Keeping that cold from moving up through your feet will keep your feet warmer and you fishing longer. You'll be amazed what a difference it will make.

    Well be thankful I spent 53 years in Illinois and 4:15 was dark in Winter. I love these Western Iowa extended days especially durning the warm months when it's still light at 9:30 for me, just a slice of heaven. When we're out with our Rig Camping it's even more fun. There's something to be said for living almost on the edge of the Central/Mountain Time Divide. Question, it does get cold in Iowa, how do you keep the Bait tank from just freezing up? Seems like a simple answer but you never know.

    Good advise but I am not smart enough to follow it. lol
    Over the years I have paired down repeatedly yet it always creeps back up as I find that I need or want something I don't have and it gets added for the next trip(s). Last month I broke down and fashioned a gear carrier out of a golf push cart in an attempt to keep the walk down to, and up from, the water down to one each. It works well in the yard, yet to see if it functions well in the field.
    In my defense, I account a short trip as 8 hrs. I am advancing in age but that does not count as an excuse as I carried too much/just enough in my younger years as well.

      @ STAHL'S BLUES - The catfish are dormant with the water temps below 50° during those months. They find deeper holes & are not as aggressive but can be caught. You would be more likely to catch a blue cat as they aren't affected by water temps.
