Hi, Good job, Great Vid. Eye's welled in tears as I watched this, for that was my father and me some 59 years ago. Dad had a boat and moter but many a Saturday summer night we spent under the stars and under a bridge. Two rods out with cut bait, corn, shrimp or livers just to catch anything for me to fight and reel in. He would throw lures and jig and minnow to catch Walleyes, Pike or Bass. That were quickly filleted, egged, breadcrumbs, cast iron and hot oil. At 6 years of age my palate had yet come to delight in freshly caught Walleye and Pike. So it was the old hot dog on a stick under the bridge in my sleeping bag next to the fire. Thank You for bringing me back in time for some very special memories.
@@RiverCertified Sir? Just UnclePete. I'm one of those people. Not too much into Cats more of a Muskie dude for over 40years. But I don't care what it is Big Fish are cool. I've been doing that same exact type fishing since I was oh about 14 yrs old and was allowed to go camp by the river about a 1/2 mile from our home. During high water the river would wash out sharp tall dirt bank curves so Farmers started dumping old Car Bodies over the bank to stop the erosion, most of these old cars were wrecked so badly they hardly had a 2foot square that wasn't smashed up, anyway this method of stopping erosion was very popular back in the day and there were no less than 4 such places in a one mile stretch of the river, of course this provided EXCELLENT COVER and ambush spots for big cats and for their fry to hatch and grow in a protected environment. I'm sure you can see that fishing around the old wrecks was a real hot spot to catch some seriously nice Flatheads and Big Channel Cats.....I would take my Coon Hound with me and my little tent in case it came up a rain. I used mainly Fresh Cut River Bank Cut Willows for rods and nylon Trot line string with big rusty nuts or bolts for sinkers but used store bought Salt Water Hooks about the size you show in the video...they were so very sharp and tougher than hell...plain hooks like the old Eagle Claw would get straightened out some times before we could get to them so I just stayed with the Salt Water Hooks. Me and th he Hound would set up about 6 poles (3 above and 3 below) the corner filled with cars and as soon as it got Dark I would send my Hound out to find a Coon to run an tree and that's how we spent our summer vacations from school. I would check poles every 30 min till around 3 am then every hour till after sun up. My hound and I had more fun catching Catfish (that always went home with us) and Treeing Raccoons all night then sleep and lay around all day till night time and start all over again....it was a great childhood. TOM SAWYER or HUCK FINN had nothing on me that's for sure and certain.
Thanks for the inspiration my friend. Reminds me of childhood memories, fishing and camping several weekends out of the summer and atleast 1-2 "1 week vacations " and a 2 week vacation camping fishing, eating what we caught, along with a few other things Mom would bring to change up the menu 1 time a day. Needless to say, we ate fish all winter long.
When I was a kid back in the 70's we used to cook up blue gill like that. We'd take Sterno, a frying pan, some kind of breading (I can't remember which) and cooking oil. Man those were good times.
Nice monster! I love your show bro, was in a car wreak a month ago. Shattered both feet lost my spleen among a long list of other injuries. So I have plenty of time to check out TH-cam. Thanks for keeping me entertained
Sike, he's most likely in Iowa. I've only seen a handful of his videos in other states and usually it's south. And I'm almost certain there's not any flathead that size in the whole state of Washington. They just don't get that big northwest.

14 to 20 inches, they be good. I attract raccoons when I start cooking. sometime they just sit behind me and wait for a little one. I toss it to them. then run down the bank. You hear some serious bone crunching off and on for 15 or 20 minutes. then they come back for another.

I feel Your Pain Brother ! Losing fish is frustrating . I was fishing with a Catholic Priest who was a good friend of mine and hooked onto a monster bass ,just to have it come off the hook mere feet from shore . I saw how big it was ( probably the biggest bass I THOUGHT I had) as it swam away . After my tirade of swearing and stomping my foot I saw the Priest shaking His head saying" no no no ,swearing is bad " . I was embarrassed but He actually thought it was comical especially when I started saying " Bless me Father for I have Sinned" which is what One says at the beginning of Confession in the Catholic Tradition. I continued with " I have used profanity out of anger." The Priest started chuckling but did say " God forgives You ." We actually still managed to catch several decent fish and We both got a good laugh too.
