The DNA “match” was even worse than told here. Normally the forensic match is done by either sequencing stretches and comparing, or by having DNA cut by enzymes, then see if the lengths of all the pieces are the same sizes. The shawl comparison apparently did neither, but instead looked at gene variants in the suspect (from family DNA) and shawl DNA, saying both had a gene variant that was only found in 0.1% of the population. Then it got worse...when the “geneticist” realized they made a mistake and that gene was actually present in 99% of Europeans (not 0.1%)....making it useless of identifying specific people.

A barber being Jack isn't that far-fetched, in the 1800s part of a Barber's job description was performing minor surgeries. Also, it's always been my understanding that mitochondrial DNA can indeed be traced through the male line simply because every male has DNA from both his mother & father and Mitochondrial DNA is traced through the maternal line.
So it works like this. Mitochondraial DNA occurs in both assigned male at birth and assigned female at birth, paternal dna only primarily occurs in assigned male at birth cause it is on the Y chromosome. Men pass on their Y chromosome to their sons but most of the time don't pass on their mitochondrial DNA though in some rare cases there is evidence of people getting it from both parents . So Jack wouldn't be likely to pass on his mitochondrial DNA even if he had daughters(which would technically increase the likelihood of it coming from both parents) partly because it is often destroyed during conception
Being skilled with a razor, living locally and seriously mentally ill put kosminsky in the frame, dna, I can't really say, but the one thing that makes him by far the main suspect is he is the only one reported by an eye witness who knew him. Kosminsky was arrested but released as the man who reported him wouldn't testify against someone of the same religion as himself. I read kosminskys family had him committed to an asylum shortly afterwards and the killings stopped, though I have also read conflicting accounts on my last point.

Whenever I think about these cases I think that somewhere there’s gotta be at least one or a few serial killers throughout history that have been so good at not getting caught that have killed so many people and done so many horrible things that no one ever knows about their crimes but them and are never caught and their crimes probably dwarf those of the big known famous serial killers we know about.
Yeah that's true, but that was mostly in the middle ages, when plauge was running rampant(13-1400's). Jack the Ripper didn't come around until Victorian times (1880's-1900's)
apparently barbers had really good knife skills in the olden times and surgeons such as George Chapman (another Jack the Ripper suspect) moved to London and started a job as a barber despite being a junior surgeon in Poland
Or Jack the Ripper was actually Jane the Ripper. Now hear me out... Midwives! They had the anatomical knowledge necessary and no one in that time would question a woman walking down the street with blood on her hands and clothes since that was part of a midwife's job
In My Mersey Paradise More often in medieval times- come the Victorian era, more people were educated and after the renaissance period, there were more real doctors and surgeons.
Yeah a lil be off , as ft George said it’s more during the medieval times . It was around 1800’s that surgery and ‘physicians ‘ started to develop into what we have now .
Actually, though surgeries was less common but in Jack's time there was a small amount of barbers that still practiced them. And remember that he was a immigrant. Just because London at the time it was rare doesn't mean he didn't learn it in his homeland and bring it to England with him. As for Bloodletting that is a different story. It was absolutely common for a barber to perform it during Jack's time. Today there are even lots of surviving tools of them doing this at the time period.
@@CaptoftheHaggister But remember the author Martin Fido wrote a book about David Cohen and Aaron Kosminski and obviously had gone through the documentary evidence. He said that Kosminski was not a barber surgeon, but a hairdresser. Cohen didn't speak a word of English--and being over 23 and off the boat Kosminski couldn't have spoken much either. Remember none of the earwitnesses (NONE) heard the man speak with an accent. Something that obviously rules these Polish Jewish suspects out.
just a thought. barbers also doubled as surgeons back then. that's why barber poles are red and white striped. it represents the blood in your body being "let out". people would go to barbers for bloodletting services.
Sier Well to answer ur question: As fine as in anyone (kids, teens, adults, old people I think) with a disability and mental health go there and is so unhygienic that going to an asylum is like going to prison for life and kids that go there get raised there and would probably never get to see the light of day again. And the fact that insane asylums are basically the same as people not dealing with a problem and instead shoving it into an corner of a room and not letting people see it. They know it’s there but ur not letting them take a better look. There is a book called “Ten Days in a Mad-House” that was written by an America journalist Nellie Bly where she was assigned to pretend to be insane to get in and journal what she found inside. *Cough* *Cough* *It isn’t pretty.* I recommend it. They weren't too bad in the UK, not the same kind of abuse that happened in other countries, but will never be perfect anyway, as in any other institution, at least they were a safe haven for some people for a while.
Actually, a law passed in 1800 stopped all the surgical stuff. Unless he was still doing that under the table, as he was in a later time period. It was most popular in medieval times rather than Victorian times. But I am glad to see someone else who knows some historical background!
I was thinking the exact same thing. Somehow he may have gotten a decent education with the scalpel from the barber chair. I just wasn't sure when barbers stopped being "doctors" too.

Jack the Ripper was a Policeman Detective, and how he always got away so fast is because he knew all the police routes. @LilBob/Sunstar But there are so many other more positive and truthful ways to attract people to a video. So when did this culture of using deceits/half-lies to trick people into watching a video, first started?
The idea that a piece of fabric, that has been soiled many times by who knows what over the years, and has been handled by hundreds of people would have any identifiable traces of DNA on it seems extremely unlikely. DNA also deteriorates over time, especially if the fabric is not kept in airtight conditions. while it makes for a fascinating story, it does not seem to be scientifically feasible.

I know the identity of Jack the Ripper. I have been doing a lot of research on him for the past 45 years. I also found out that he is my great great great great 2nd cousin from my mom’s side. I recall a letter he had written to his mother after a dinner that she had prepared for the family. His father had told jack to stop eating so fast. Jack quoted that dad said “stop ripping though your steak and just take your time and enjoy it”. As history has it and from letters from jack. His father would always call him Jack the Ripper after he ate his steak. I can’t reveal his identity because of my pledge that I made with the family. 1745 the medical practitioners put pressure on the barbers to... split their company, and so the barbers stayed in the 'Barbers Company' and the surgeons formed the 'Company of Surgeons'. In 1800 a royal charter was given to the 'Company of Surgeons' and they created they Royal collage of surgeons in London. Hence by the 1800's it was no longer a barbers business to deal with surgery.

A barber being Jack isn't that far-fetched, in the 1800s part of a Barber's job description was performing minor surgeries. Also, it's always been my understanding that mitochondrial DNA can indeed be traced through the male line simply because every male has DNA from both his mother & father and Mitochondrial DNA is traced through the maternal line.
first u say mitochondrial dna is traced through the male line then say through the maternal line... which one??
The Victim was a Lady of the Night, wasn't she? So wouldn't she have multiple DNA samples on her?
Possibly but depends on how many she seen that night

@hayden lamb they did some simple surgeries and often worked as dentists

Barbers did do surgeries and blood letting in Victorian Britain
In My Mersey Paradise
More often in medieval times- come the Victorian era, more people were educated and after the renaissance period, there were more real doctors and surgeons.
Yeah a lil be off , as ft George said it’s more during the medieval times . It was around 1800’s that surgery and ‘physicians ‘ started to develop into what we have now .
But when Kosminski was admitted to the asylum-hisoccupation was listed as "hairdresser" NOT barber or barber-surgeon.

“...sent to one of London’s finest insane asylums”
I don’t really know how “fine” insane asylums were in the 1890s
Sier
Well to answer ur question:
As fine as in anyone (kids, teens, adults, old people I think) with a disability and mental health go there and is so unhygienic that going to an asylum is like going to prison for life and kids that go there get raised there and would probably never get to see the light of day again.

The red stripe is on the barber pole because barbers in that time period were also surgeons.

Jack the Ripper was a Policeman Detective, and how he always got away so fast is because he knew all the police routes. The idea that a piece of fabric, that has been soiled many times by who knows what over the years, and has been handled by hundreds of people would have any identifiable traces of DNA on it seems extremely unlikely.
