you're doing a great job as a paid spokesman for Toyota to pump up this 6th gen 4Runner with a smaller engine that's turbo charged to a point it will fail and explode from the higher heat and pressure.
Bought a 2024 TRD ORP earlier this month. Have about 725 miles on it. Everything I wanted and nothing I didn’t. Plan to keep for 20 years. Couldn’t be happier with my purchase.
Same, SR5 Premium 4WD, wanted last generation, very happy with it so far! No moon roof (couldn’t care less), fake leather seats. When I left the dealership, I felt all beat up! 😂
I'll say it since no one else is addressing it. Turbo: the problem I see with turbo is that manufacturers are putting in under-sized engines for EPA/CAFE compliance. If you let it coast and never engage the turbo then your EPA numbers look great. It's now how most people drive. The way most people drive the turbo will be in use a large percent of the time (I'd argue most of the time). Meaning, now that 4cyl engine is being hit rather hard, most of the time, because it is otherwise underpowered and turbo is the only way to get it to be consumer-acceptable. Turbo in a race car? Ok. Turbo in a pickup truck for when it needs an extra boost? OK. Turbo to assist an undersized engine just sounds like it's asking for trouble to me.
I just bought my 2nd 4Runner about 2 months ago. I had a 2018 and decided to get the tried and true 2024 instead of going for the turbo. Still loving it!
I am with my third 4runner now, most likely gonna grab a 6th gen or LandCruiser in future but I am waiting at least 2 or 3 more years to let the problems of new products settle down.
As a 33 year diesel mechanic I learned a long time ago a thing called duty cycle. The ability of the engine to sustain 90% or higher horsepower for an extended period of time. A turbo’d 4 banger is not going to be able to sustain that especially towing up long grades, towing a weight of say 80% + of its tow capacity. Sure the turbo 4 cylinder has more HP but at what cost? Dip into that HP too much and you’ll be replacing turbo or engine a lot sooner. We’re downsizing in don’t need a 1 ton diesel truck anymore. However I need something my wife could drive and not be intimidated. Like a 4x4 Limited. We’re planning on moving to the Northwest next year so 4x4 is definitely desirable. Here in Texas I don’t find very many just the 2wd. Then she prefers a “sparkling white” as she puts it, with tan interior. Sigh. Now she wants to wait till 2025 to purchase something, most likely it will be used as people are scarfing up the last V-6’s.
Yeah I have 5th gen TRD pro. I’m set for life. If I ever had to replace it and get this new turbo crap I’d go with Landcruiser the new 4Runner is not what 4Runner people wanted. I like the rugged box on wheels not the rav 4 with some extra weight.
How long have you been working for Toyota? Maybe you can tell us when they will engineer them so that they actually work. $55,000-$70,000 for an SUV with a 4- cylinder twin turbo that can't even be delivered to dealers because the engines and transmissions don't work.
I’ve always wanted a 4Runner and in late 2024 I ended up buying a 2022 SR5 Premium. I had no idea of this new model coming out in 2025. So glad I snagged my 5th gen when I could.
I'm so glad I have the 5th gen 4Runner, Reliability is by far at the top. Per CarCareNut 4Runner engine is more reliable than Land cruiser200 / Tundra/ Lexus GX460. Isn't reliability the main reason to buy a Toyota?
The 2010-24 4Runners are a modern classic. The frame, the 1GR-FE V6 engine and 5-speed auto transmission actually debuted on the 4th generation 4Runner back in 2003, with minimal changes afterwards. Much of the research and development being done in the late 90s and early 2000s. So in short, the outgoing 4Runner comes from a bygone era when Toyota was at their peak in terms of quality and reliability.
@@GrumpyMonkey69 I already have the V6 in my 2008 4runner. I've had my time with mediocre performance paired with horrendous fuel economy. 15mpg average isn't cutting it anymore for something shorter in length than a Toyota Camry. It's time to move on. Everyone is crying saying the 4cyl isn't going to be reliable when the 4.0L V6 is famous for head gasket issues in the first 2 years in the 4th gen 4Runner. The V6 already doesn't sound good so we're not missing anything there. It's not a race car and it's not a V8. And just wait. In 15 years, Toyota is going to move to an EV based power train (maybe even an REEV setup) and people will be begging to keep the 4cyl.
@ToyotaJeff Reviews: Looking forward to my first ever Toyota, a 2024 4Runner TRD ORP in Underground. It is due in this week. I am hoping it will last me the next 20 years.
All turbos stress the engine out. Small engines with turbos don’t last . It heats up the solenoids everything runs hot and turbos make the gasoline mix with the oil. When gasoline mixes with the oil, the oil cannot do its job.. never buy turbos
Has Toyota ever dropped the ball with the quality of their vehicles that people aren’t buying them anymore? I’m confident Toyota engineers took everything into account to produce a good replacement for the former 4Runner. Unless you know something from the manufacturer we don’t, I’d say give them some time to prove themselves. Besides, first generation vehicles normally come with bugs so let’s be patient and “don’t burn them bridges just yet” 🤣
@@DavidWX877 but aren’t they standing behind their product and replacing engines on all the vehicles involved? It only happened to one specific model engine, not their entire fleet of vehicles. There are some that don’t even have an issue and they’re still replacing it. I remember Porsche went through something similar with crankshaft bearings in a particular engine back in the day. Issues were corrected as well. Now I remember Corollas from the 2000s also had issues with oil leaks in their engines past the 100k miles due to issues with piston rings. None of the less, Corollas are considered today one of their best built vehicles right next to the Camry. That doesn’t sound like dropping the ball to me. Not everything is perfect. Perhaps today’s vehicles are not being built like the old days, built to last. Just saying
I am sure that Toyota will get all the kinks worked out of the 2025 4Runner eventually, but with turbos and V4 and new 8 speed transmission - No thanks for the first year of anything including Toyota. I needed a new beach truck this year, and so I bit the bullet and got 2024 TRD Off Road Premium and am very happy so far with my V6 gas guzzling reliable 5 speed 4Runner.
@DavidWX877 any engine that's poorly engineered doesn't last long. The longest running engines out there are turbocharged, look at any transport truck.
@@flyguy2021He has none. Turbo engines last just as long if not longer than the NA engines they replaced. Toyota tests their engines under extreme conditions for a million miles. Most engines fail due to a lack of maintenance and a failure to monitor fluids. Occasionally there is a factory defect, but that is what warranty is for.
Toyota won't stop building the V6 naturally aspirated engines, they still have customers in different countries that demand them. the V6's will be in some sort of smaller version of the 4Runner for overseas customers. So, a replacement engine will still be available for the 5th gen for a very long time.
You mentioned the 5th gen doesn't have upgraded safety; it was only 10 years ago that the 5th gen was rated the safest vehicle on earth. Most of the upgrades to safety in other vehicles have failed and killed people and recalled and companies were sued.
I just hope the Japanese build quality for the 6th gen 4Runner is better than the 4th gen Tacomas. I took a close look at one, and I was shocked at how cobbled together it looked.
24 still looks good after 15 yrs. Imo looks better than the 25 4runner to me. And guaranteed that the 4runner currently will outlast the 25 and more. The 25 second row looks tight and getting in and out of it you'll probably have some tire stain on your leg or pants since it isn't covered at The wheel area when you open the door.
I traded my 2013 tacoma for a 2024 4runner trd premium. I absolutely love the 4runner. Coming from a stripped tacoma I feel like I'm driving a luxury vehicle that is built like a tank. Yeah its not the quickest but if you figure out when to let it rev a little (2nd to 3rd gear) she pulls just fine. I find all the options people seem to complain about perfectly functional and simple. I hope to keep the 4runner for a very long time.
I’ll take the 2025 if they fixed the steering wheel shake that my 2024 and 2021 had and that Toyota is not doing anything about. Hit 65 mph and steering wheel starts shaking. They say it’s the tires and even after road force balancing them the truck still shakes. Then the dealership said “Well the tire company allows a certain tolerance”. Are you kidding! This is my 2nd 4Runner and so far my older H3 has proven to drive smoother. For a $50k truck these 4Runners should not have these problems.

You basically need to ask yourself if you're ok spending $50k+ for the privilege of being a beta tester. If you are, then congrats you're going to get to do just that. If not, just wait and see how this new drive train actually performs and lasts. It's conventional wisdom in tech that you never bet on generation one of anything. You always wait till gen 2 or even gen 3 if you can. By then any bugs are worked out and you have better known quantity to judge. If you don't need the newest shiny, let those who do take the hit.
Anyone knocking the 4Turbo has not driven one, the V6 and 6 speed is terrible. Turbo phobia in America is very odd, Japan's been using them for years and are prefered over the less efficient non turbo engines. I lived their for 11 years and off roaded with the many Japanese, they also dont put large wide tires on their cars which destroy the torque numbers.
Without a doubt the 2024 is the last year of the awesome reliable 4R. The new 2025 turbo or turbo/hybrid (no frame bump stops) is extremely more complex and has 3-4 times as many fail points. Don't buy a turbo, hybrid, electric or CVT, you'll be much happier and wealthier. Turbos do one thing awesome, they wear the motor out much faster. Never mind the turbo also wont last long either. Good luck.
To bad everyone does not know this they like to point to diesel engines with turbos and how long they last but they seem to forget gas and diesel engines are not the same. Not only that a turbo puts stress on the little engine causing it to wear out faster and the whole idea of them coming with a battery pack that needs to be replaced at some point that will cost thousands of dollars to replace is a huge added cost with very little benefit.
just like Mercedes and Bmw quality went down because they got on the "most people keep the cars for only five years" wagon so they started building with plastic and short lasting materials ,it's happening to toyota also
A 2024 TRD Pro 4runner is cheaper than a 2025 SR5 4runner…… I got a 24 TRD ORP for 46k…. When the new generation are in the shop getting new turbos or new battery banks replaced. Or new engines because of all that torque in a small engine = accelerated wear and tear…. I will still be driving my dinosaur! ( btw….I hope I am wrong, but you know I am not)
I bought a 2022 trd premium brand new so its been almost 3 years and im getting antcy for a 6th gen but, the 4 cylinder is a no for me I think so ill probably keep my 2022 5th gen I just rolled 8, 000 miles on it at almost 3 yrs old ...My pit loves his 4 runner for that back rolled down window is his happy place so I won't drove anything but 4 runner.I always try and stick with toyota .usually highlanders but my pit rules the roost and I will be keeping 4 runners no matter what as long as I have my boy...

I have a new 2024 SR5 premium in artic white. Love the vehicle. But for someone who sells these Toyotas for a living I wouldn't make a video with "Top Reasons you Won't like...". Just my 2 cents.
4 FJ cruisers owned 2007, 2010, 2012, 2014, hated that 19 gal tank. Same truck under the skin as 4R. Started out looking at the Crown SUV intro'ed this year. Head slap time: the Crown limited version is almost same price as a limited 4R, but a new unibody failure with mucho plastic and the thinnnest metal Toyota could press, and a 4 banger. Wow i could have a body on frame v6 luxo 4R limited for same money!. So i did a 500 mile search and found the one i loved, a dock strike was keeping it on the boat until this past wednesday. now just waiting to go to dealer and pick it up. Will join its stablemate the 2021 Tundra limited. The last good trucks Toyota ever built and will ever build, now that Toyota is a hand maid to Corporate Average Fuel Economy. i DO like my 38 gal Tundra tank for my all day drives, ha ha.
I love my 2023 4Runner. If I had to replace it - say due to an accident, I'd get a Land Cruiser. I don't like the looks of the 6th gen. I'm not too worried about turbochargers - Toyota has been putting them in their diesel engines for a very long time (too bad none in the US, though).
@@Anomize23 I wouldn't necessarily compare VW's engineering or manufacturing abilities to Toyota's - regardless of the fuel the engine was designed to burn. I had a TDI Jetta and I traded it in for my first Tacoma 15 years ago. It was a decent car, but the quality just wasn't the greatest.
No thanks on the 6th generation. A no or low tech, shift not dial 4 wheel drive, V6 varient would be great. Toyota appears to abandon a great ( don't need to advertise it) product? Loyal customers are the best customers.
The thing that always annoyed me with toyotas is that you can buy a brand new one and 1-2 years later they come out with a new grill or slightly changed body style then you're already driving the old style model.

Is it because the 2025 is not available for sale yet and they want the 2024 inventory gone?
To each his own. My 2012 Trail edition is ready for trade. I want the new one, it is quite "Manly".
Yep. I had a hard time liking the previous gen face that when I finally grew to like it, they changed it for 2025, and I don't like the it.
Did you say the match with 8-speed transamination of the old 4 runners?
I'm interested in the 2025 4runner
2025 4Runner rear tail lights ARE FUGLY.
It’s thermodynamics…..increase the heat and you will get (at some point) a hit
When did they start putting eight speeds iin
I’m pretty sure the 5th gen 4Runner does not use an 8 speed auto. It has an archaic 5 speed auto.
Anyone knocking the 4Turbo has not driven one, the V6 and 6 speed is terrible. Turbo phobia in America is very odd, Japan's been using them for years and are prefered over the less efficient non turbo engines. I lived their for 11 years and off roaded with the many Japanese, they also dont put large wide tires on their cars which destroy the torque numbers.
have u taken a turbo up a mountain before?! or even a hill?
Oh yeah, just to mention, the 2024 production has ended. So if you can find a 2024, grab it now.
Toyota believed the eco hype and is paying for it now! Nobody wants these weak power packages across their whole line of new cars. 😢
( btw….I hope I am wrong, but you know I am not)
I think they will get it polished in a few years
I bought a 2022 trd premium brand new so its been almost 3 years and im getting antcy for a 6th gen but, the 4 cylinder is a no for me I think so ill probably keep my 2022 5th gen I just rolled 8, 000 miles on it at almost 3 yrs old ...My pit loves his 4 runner for that back rolled down window is his happy place so I won't drove anything but 4 runner.I always try and stick with toyota .usually highlanders but my pit rules the roost and I will be keeping 4 runners no matter what as long as I have my boy...
I like the new 4RUNNER I will likely wait a year or so but would get the hybrid Platinum unless the Scout Traveler becomes a reality.then it m8ght be a tough decision
When will the engine replacement/recall happen 😅
Do you know the mpg of the 2025 i-force?
Am I to ignore the 100 reasons I do like it? Toyotas 2jzgte engine is turbo and extremely reliable and one of the most famous engines ever made
maybe you'll be able to buy an old one for msrp??? lol. have you seen the car market lately?
I love the 5th gen that's why on my 3rd
The 2025’s are crap! They’ve ruin their reliability! Good luck!
Mat he’d with a 5 speed the 24 is. I’m sure you meant to say that.
Hi Jeff a 2.4 turbo is to small of a motor for the big rig!!
Like the redesign. However, their drivetrain needs idiots to be a tested on….
Ill stick with the oldie goldie and i did
I love my 2023 4Runner. If I had to replace it - say due to an accident, I'd get a Land Cruiser. I don't like the looks of the 6th gen. I'm not too worried about turbochargers - Toyota has been putting them in their diesel engines for a very long time (too bad none in the US, though).
You’ll like them once you see them in person they’re beautiful
Yeah diesel and turbos are quite different than regular gas and turbo. Former VW owner here and id suggest you look into the differences.
The 2025 looks like a RAV4 on steroids. I like it.
YAY!!! LETS GET RAVVVY!!!!!!! 😂
Whats The Whole Point if the New 4runner has new tech and power but its not reliable !
No thanks on the 6th generation. A no or low tech, shift not dial 4 wheel drive, V6 varient would be great. Toyota appears to abandon a great ( don't need to advertise it) product? Loyal customers are the best customers.
The thing that always annoyed me with toyotas is that you can buy a brand new one and 1-2 years later they come out with a new grill or slightly changed body style then you're already driving the old style model.
looks like there is less room on the 25
I owned one car with turbos and the engine failed at 60,000. I said no turbos again.
I can’t afford a Tacoma anymore; I’m just guessing 4Runners will start at $10k more.
I mainly like the new colors of the 2025 😂
I’m still driving my 1996 3rd gen but have a 2024 on order and getting it soon. I’ve owned turbocharged cars, not interested
