  • A sunken settlement discovered under Lake Atitlan demonstrates that a type of destruction mentioned in 3 Nephi (waters rising up to cover cities) occurred anciently in the Americas near the time of Christ.

"It a fake." Is what some will claim. But along with the Mayan city 50 miles off the coast of Louisiana at a depth of 30-70 feet, and the Mayan city 2 miles below the surface off the coast of Cuba, and Port Royale or as it's also known The Las Vegas of the Caribbean, all show that these things have happened and continue to happen.

There's alot of things hidden under the water everywhere. But shouldn't you be looking around the great Lakes in North America for sunken settlements? Also, most important sites in Australia are starting to be found off the coast when sea levels were lower, but in our case it's because most indigenous Australians were most likely at the coast because most of inland was desert. Interesting (as always). Seems to me that it says those cities were first sunk in the earth before the water flooded in, and that it was all very sudden and cataclysmic, happening in a few hours rather than over long periods of time (as with lake levels rising). Seems more consistent with a coastal city sinking, and then the sea flooding in.

Their mother gentile nation happened to be called "Spain" Mexican and Guatemalan independence came in September 1821 and while they are poor compared to the United States, they certainly are freer than the United States. Remember, Brigham Young was taking the saints to what was at that time Mexican territory to escape American persecution, the tyrannical US followed them. This is why many polygamists in the pioneer days escaped to Mexico because, unlike the "free" United States of America, Mexico wasn't openly persecuting the church.

Mt. Rainier had a huge lahar about 800 years ago, if you think about it, that was about the time of the3 days of darkness and calamities that happened.
I believe that The Book of Mormon covers the whole American continent, North and South. There were reports of established highways and paths all over.
We only have an abridgement or fraction of the history that Mormon compiled.
Also, take in account of the people in Ether.
There is also a book called The Red Record, about the Delaware nation and their history starting in Egypt and how they crossed the land bridge from west to east... Russia to Alaska. In that book they mention that they met other people who were already here. They met about the Wyoming territory.
There used to be a huge Boulder on a cliff in Tacoma, Washington, that had hieroglyphs. The heads of the Northern Pacific Railroad decided to bury the Boulder and use it to build up the land along the waterfront, which is now part of Schuster parkway freeway. No one bothered to take pictures of the hieroglyphs and they claimed that no one could read them.
I believe that there could have been land that sunk in the Gulf of Mexico between Mexico, Florida and Georgia. The Mulekites came to this continent across the Atlantic Ocean and landed around the great lakes area. The same with the Jaredites.
You have basically at least 3 or 4 groups of people who lived in this land.
I came across a newspaper article about a China man who discovered this continent at least 10,000 years ago.
We will have mysteries revealed to us when the time is right. When Jesus returns, he will make known everything. Remember, there's a sealed book that was part of the gold plates, he will unveil when he returns and will teach us out of.

@BrianTerrill If you understand the history of Mesoamerica, it makes more sense. The first people of Mesoamerica arrive around 2000 BC (Maya and Olmec), and out of all the lands in Mesoamerica, they choose a swampy rain forest for their first villages. A place inhospitable to most people, especially those coming from the Middle East. The original inhabitants chose a very difficult place to farm and live. My thoughts are that they chose this location because where they came from was a tropical rainforest. They knew how to engineer swamps and a rain forest to farm difficult soil. People in the Brazilian rain forest also had to engineer the soil to farm.
With the Chachapoyas, there is evidence for an Iberian Phoenician migration to the new world. They believe they landed in Brazil because they find a brass axes head and Phoenician written characters close to the Brazilian coast. Where do they choose to live? In the tops of the Andes. Did they choose this environment because it was similar to where they came from? That would make sense.
