I’m remembering about all the rental car status’ the Platinum card grants. I don’t rent cars often but when I do they are at the busy airports, ability to skip the line and have an EZ pass-like experience is clutch!

That’s very true, at least there are a decent amount of options for higher level car rental status, but I hear that for sure, I also just never rent cars so I never really consider it.

The advantage of the Amex Platinum is that you can book the flights with any airline and get 5x without going through a portal and you the Centurion Lounge and Delta SkyClub with any airline. You could book a $200 cheap flight on Spirit Airlines FLL-LGA and still get into the Centurion Lounge. With the Amex Delta Reserve you are limited to only Delta flights and Delta tends to be on the more expensive side.
I thought you had to have a Delta boarding pass to get into a Delta lounge with the Platinum Card.
I believe Fog is right that you’d need to be flying delta to access the sky clubs with the Platinum, that said, you still get those other lounges as well that are powerful if not flying delta, but just having access is very cool!
Centurion for sure can get in with any airline!
For sure Delta can be a bit pricier though.

Regarding the concept of Hyatt Prive, I guess the question is why use the FHR credit on the Platinum which as you and Calby referenced is essentially recouping what you paid in the annual fee in the Platinum when there is essentially no cost to using Prive?
Exactly Ryan! This is the mission I’ve been delving into hard the last week or so, and I really think the answer will end up being no Platinum, and just use a couple of card but then use these other programs that have access to all the same benefits as FHR.

Surprisingly they've been outsourcing most of their benefits to websites. We have the video recorded, I'm just waiting on the Mastercard's concerige to get back with me. So keep an eye out for that video!
I use it often to buy flowers for same day delivery but I find other good reasons for it but sounds like the Amex plat is starting to water it down deff something to keep a eye on for making a decision

Unless something changes down the road. Personally, the only reason only reason I'd cancel my platinum card is if I'd get the charles schwab version of the card.

As someone who holds both the AMEX Platinum and the Delta Business Reserve, yeah, it would be hard to give up either card. But I don’t ever see myself giving up the Delta reserve. I’m a commercial photographer and I’m traveling constantly. Just got back from a trip yesterday and I was at the LaGuardia Sky Club AFTER I landed. I literally walked in there just a freshen up, grab a quick bite - and then go pick up my luggage. Stuff like that is such a nice benefit, but also, all of the other protections and benefits that come with being loyal to one airline and using their cards Would be hard to give up.
Yeahhhh I hear this for sure Jeff, and I agree that the Skylounges alone are well worth it, I loved when I went to them so really wondering how else to get access to them when needed if these cards weren’t an option etc.
Ughh, something to think about hahaha. That’s awesome, I love the idea of landing and getting some food, then going back home etc.

I have the Amex Delta Business Reserve. I can use the $250 stay credits and the Enhanced Companion Pass. I think if you live in a major city the Resy $20 per month is okay. The part I don't like with American Express if that they are forcing you to spend money where you would not normally spend. I am not sure I like the idea of spending $300 a month at a Resy restaurant. I like the idea of the American Express Marriott Brillant where it is $25 at any restaurant.

Yeahh, luckily depending on where you are, Resy places could be on the cheaper side too, but a lot of them can also be very expensive.

Loews hotel in New York was horrible! For a 5 star hotel…. Room feels like a motel inn vibe lol so expensive too!!! Worst hotel to goto. They should take it down in FHR program.

Amex Platinum is the Cadillac of travel credit cards there isn’t one thing this travel card doesn’t grant you access to or provide in travel value. If you can utilize it as a travel card there is no better travel card! ✊

The Waldorf Astoria in D.C. is facing a foreclosure auction...
Its not getting closed. Way too many invested parties to allow it to go belly up and give the building back to the GSA. The auction is a legal formality that allows CGI and MSD Partners time to renegotiate the terms of the loan they defaulted on. Hilton Worldwide also provides property management services for the hotel so they have a vested interest in keeping it as a Hilton rather than let another competitor come in and swoop it up.
The group that owns the Conrad in DC would love nothing else than for that Waldorf to go away lol.
People said I was the one who bankrupted them which I tend to agree with 😂😂😂

CON'T I have my Aspire and I love it. I use my CSR as my general travel card and I'm covered on PP lounge along with my Ritz card. Don't even need to downgrade my Platty to Green when I'm covered with my CSR

Aspire card is amazing internationally. 9/10 I’ve been upgraded. Notably Conrad Maldives, Conrad Tokyo and Conrad Osaka.

Depends on what else you can use on the CSR, personally I’d rather get the Platinum with FHR then CSR and their $300 credit, since I don’t really use anything else the CSR has, other than DoorDash but I think that’s going away isn’t it?

I already got the No annual fee and the Surpass unfortunately a few years ago, and don’t want to test the NLL honestly.

I think if anything, I’d probably go VX before the Reserve, I don’t really know too much of what it would give me over just getting an Aspire with the same annual fee honestly.

I had the Amex Platinum in 2020 maybe with a huge (back then) 100,000 point offer. Kept it for one year only before canceling. Only used it to transfer points to Marriott and Hilton (with point transfer bonuses). I personally found it to be very useless for my needs. I might get the business one day just for the welcome offer.
Yes so we share a very similar timeline, just I never cancelled unless you count my Vanilla haha.
But I hear that, for sure I would also get the welcome offer if or whenever I could hit that spend.

You don’t want the Venture X?!! What’s wrong with you bud?! The Venture X would actually suit you better IMHO.
Venture X is just extremely limited. Yes $300 statement credit and 10K anniversary points but it’s not a broad travel card. You must book through the portal to get this back and if you like other options than this of course won’t be great. Cap1 wants you to have this card as your only card as 2X catch all but obviously this won’t be your only card. Especially if you are traveling abroad and dining out a lot.
$400 isn’t a huge expense, but it’s not all that useful and if you’re buying domestic economy tickets with non-USA airlines you’re going to be boarding next to last and maybe end up needing to gate check your carryon a lot.
Edit - It’s a great card for lounge access and added AU, and if Cap1 lounge is in you home airport, but must get another card to help with earning rates.

I use the VX for car rentals and the 4 free AUs, the Platinum at $695 doesn’t have primary car rental coverage which is somewhat of a joke so I would argue depending on how you travel it is not a one stop shop for travel, I mean the CSP at $95 and the Bilt which is $0 both have primary car rental coverage. I stay at a boutique hotel (so not within a specific program) or rent a car at least once a year so the $300 credit through the portal on the VX is a non issue.
@@ryanccc777 Oh it’s great card. I don’t knock on any cards, there’s always downsides to any credit card you get. None are perfect. Obviously this is great card now but what happens when the AF goes up or they start charging for AU? The earning rates on this card won’t be great unless it’s paired up with a SV1 or another card from another bank. To get the 5x, 10x, you are stuck booking through portal.
It’s possibleeeeee, I don’t know, I’ve been going back and forth and I will say the VX does in fact make up the lounge access argument for if the Platinum card went away.
I can see your point of view as well Apex, it would just be buying another set of coupons to redeem in a way, however I did want to try their premier collection too so just a few moving parts, not sure.
Same for you Ryan, I can see all of those points working as well via their portal, boutique and what have you.
It’ll be interesting for sure, I’m excited to see what makes sense in just a few weeks I think.
